Every single transfer window I come on here and literally spend all day every day refreshing the page, hoping for itk.
Then when the window closes I'm relieved that I don't have to go through it and tell myself never again am I going to get sucked in to it all, here I am again thritering my life away until the 1st of September.
Takes me back to my drug addiction of 6 years ago and replaced it with sc itk twice a year

If Lovren is a no go then I'd much rather look on the continent at the likes of Schär than bloody Shawcross.

i hope J-Rod stays puts or goes else where, he is ok, nothing great or nothing rubbish, squad player at best, we need to improve our squad and team not just add bench warmers. Key thing here is, he aint worth the mney, but that i mean what Soton would want anything over 8/9M would be an absolute joke, (maybe a few more millions if he scored certain no of goals etc ... ) Id rather keep both Ade and Soldad and keep kane as back up and hopefully blood him through, which is what Poch is supposed speciality is, so lets hope he can do that with kane! End of day J-Rod doesnt improve us, simple as that! gives an extra option , something diff off the bench and he is injured!. (neg away lol!!)

If Lovren is out of our price range (and if they are asking for £20m he probably, correctly, is) who do we go for? Especially if Pochettino prefers somebody who has PL experience?
Somebody from a lower club. Shawcross? Reid? Vlaar?

See if we can nab somebody from a club in our region of the table who might be available. Nastasic? Agger? Evans?

Or maybe somebody who has played in the PL at some stage and then has gone abroad. Mustafi? Savic?

Not a huge number of appealing options, really and all would have question marks beside them.

John O'Shea?

I could not have Shawcross at Spurs
I agree - Shawcross isn't good enough.
I'm not sure why Curtis Davies' name has started cropping up. He's not quick and has bounced around with WBA, Villa and Birmingham before Hull. He's also only a year younger than Dawson. So are Hull going to buy Dawson for 4 million and sell us Davies for 8? Doesn't make any sense for us to do that.
And we already cast Caulker off once so going back for him (still to be a backup - which is why he left) wouldn't make any sense either.

Shawcross is a good defender actually. Very.

He's decent, but he gets carded so damn easily. Has about a .2-.25 card per game ratio, but it seems like more since I swear just about every game I've watched him play he's gotten a card.

He's a nasty bruiser though, and would add a bit of mentality and grit when shit hits the fan if I'm honest. Can't say I'd be opposed, despite how much more I'd prefer Lovren.

Not sure what thread to put this in, or whether it is itk.

I work in Norwich and Robert Snodgrass just came in, he has recently transferred to hull, I congratulated him on his move and asked if he knew anything about Dawson. His response was 'i signed knowing they wanted to improve the squad, and he was being spoken too at the same time I was'.

I don't claim to be in itk, make of it what you will, just thought I'd share to you wonderful people.

TBH i'm glad that were getting priced out of Dejan Lovren, and now that Hector Moreno looks a no go due to his injury, it seems like the TRUE answer to our defensive woes has presented itself to us....Mr. John O'Shea.

Statistics will tell you that he has won FIFTEEN major honours in his career, including FIVE Premier League titles and the Champions League. I mean, stats don't lie, RIGHT?!

I know the £3.5m fee for a 33 year old does seem to be a little steep, but theres a premium with buying English players these days, and IMO, he's definitely worth it.

Definitely Nastasic for me, even if it was an initial loan it would be worth doing.
I'd take Evans as well, very underated imo.
The only other player with PL experience I can think of is Alex, the rest are not much of an upgrade if at all, maybe we could look at someone with the characteristics to play in PL like Van Djik at Celtic or Manolas at Olympiakos, I could see them adjusting to PL quickly.

or Manolas at Olympiakos

This World Cup showed hints of it, but the Greek youth are very, very talented. Both in defense and offense. The current crop of offensive players are combinations of Holtby's energy/grit/desire with Eriksen's talent. I don't need to say much about the defense as you saw it yourselves. Obviously they play at a much lower skill level but they're quite promising and can be developed to Premier League quality without question.

I watch more Greek football than I do Prem football and I have payed a lot of attention to the Greek youth squad after seeing them play very well in the U21 world championship in 2011. I am also a big PAOK fan and watch all their matches. One player I really love is Stafylidis who went to Leverkusen last summer. He's a very talented Left Back that is quick on the attack and very good at positioning and intercepting on defense. We would start him from when he was 18 and he was one of the best, definitely top 3, left backs in Greece (only after Cholevas i would say).

We could get that wrapped up for 3 M, get Manolas for 8, and have two players better and younger at less than half of what the current options (Lovren@20 & Davies@10) would cost...

Not nearly as effective a ball-winner as you might think, and his passing is very poor.

as an Olympiacos fan i have to slightly disagree there........ i really don't rate Cholevas and most OSFP fans don't like him either

but i would be all for Spurs buying Manolas, he's a very talented player.......almost as good as his uncle :p

That wasn't necessarily referring to ball-winning, more so to the fact he's the kind of player we just don't have in the squad at the moment, i.e. a nasty **** type. Far too many softies in the side, and not enough nastiness who will tell his teammates when to step the fuck in line.
