If Lovren is out of our price range (and if they are asking for £20m he probably, correctly, is) who do we go for? Especially if Pochettino prefers somebody who has PL experience?
Somebody from a lower club. Shawcross? Reid? Vlaar?

See if we can nab somebody from a club in our region of the table who might be available. Nastasic? Agger? Evans?

Or maybe somebody who has played in the PL at some stage and then has gone abroad. Mustafi? Savic?

Not a huge number of appealing options, really and all would have question marks beside them.

Caulker.

Lovren, Rodriguez and Davies In and Siggy out...I'd be quite happy with that. Not mind blowing signings, but all the right age, have Prem experience and in theory are round pegs to fit in round holes. Would compliment what we have nicely. Not everyone has to be world class, Utd have proved that over the years.

Feeling very positive about the direction we seem to be going in (always assuming that Poch is going to get the best out quality we do have!)

We were linked with Davide Astori who looks a better player than Lovren, just lacks PL experience, but there's plenty of good CB's around. Fair enough players like Tasci and Papadopoulos have question marks over their injuries, but Schar, Howedes, de Vrij all look good options that should be reasonably priced. I'd love Inigo Martinez or Aymeric Laporte but I imagine both would be expensive and extremely difficult to get

Maybe Micah Richards

If Lovren has handed in a transfer request, doesn't that by it's very nature put pressure on Soho to sell?

It doesn't mean they have to take any offer, but they will have to accept some offer most likely.

Confused by that statement. Maybe he meant he hasn't put in a transfer request yet and it was mistyped?

Agree with this wholeheartedly. If Southampton want to pull and pants down and spank us over he Lovren price, surely we can find a cheaper option?

Davies i'm not familiar with enough to make a view. £6m plus Sig would be a lot of money but better investing in a LB with time on his side than a midfielder that wont ever play so maybe we take the hit Mr Levy.

Sig is worth £10m any day of the week, £16m for Davies is a lot of money - i'm sure there are better options out there for than kind of cash.

It was 15 goals in 30 starts in the league actually, with 2 of them coming from CF. The rest were all from LW, not bad at all

I was talking career stats, hence the "despite last season" comment. Also i wasn't saying it was bad, just that maybe it hasn't been proven over a long period of time i.e. just one season

A transfer request just means he's letting the club know he wants to leave. It puts a bit of pressure on them, but he only becomes a problem if he starts kicking up a fuss and if they think that he wont train - that's when they'll start needing to sell ala Bale / Modric / Berbatov

BUT thats on the assumption you could a) get £10m for Sig and b) you could tempt a LB worth £16m to Spurs. I doubt both.

Daily Echo (Southampton newspaper) reckon they've rejected a £20m bid for Lovren from Liverpool which would fit in with the ITK. They also reckon he may refuse to go on pre-season training. Kind of fits with the latest ITK too.

I think he's an excellent player who's a natural leader, but if they've rejected that amount, we may as well look elsewhere.

I'd look at Shawcross, Caulker and Curtis Davies as realistic options that could do a good job. How was Ashley Williams last season by the way? He was stellar in the 12/13 season.

Ermmmmmmm

Rodriguez played as a hybrid CF/LWF showing similar traits that Chadli possesses - physicality, speed (neither are top end fast, but more than quick enough), powerful running, comfortable in possession, willingness to track back. Not saying he definitely would replicate the role, he would offer more in terms of creativity and build up play and less of a threat in behind, but I see no reason why he couldn't be successful in that position. Certainly worth giving him a run of games there IMO
