Despite all the Paulinho slagging off - and I agree that he has been poor since the middle of last season - I honestly believe the fact that he didn't have a summer off before last season then played through the whole year straight through to the World Cup with the only break as a result of injury, has played a massive role in his form.

I'm not sure how he rectifies this, as since the WC he's been given a few weeks off and has come back looking distinctly average. It would be fair to give him until January (as with Soldado) naming him and Holtby as one of our CM's competing with the two deep CMs and also the 'no 10' role but I agree that if we have an offer matching our initial investment it would be a gamble not to accept, as like Palacios he may not rediscover his early promise.

Other players have played for extended periods and haven't seemed to struggle like Paulinho. This is especially confusing as when he first came to us he arrived with a reputation of having a very good engine. If anything his problems appear more to do with a lack of drive and motivation, rather than physical tiredness.
I would be as pleased as anybody to see Paulinho to stay and do well for us, but I wouldn't be surprised if we cut our losses and sell him. If we are to do that and get decent money, now probably is the right time.

AY on COYS:

I think that Bobby is not buying into the team philosophy and will be moved on if we get a replacement

(Posters on COYS are trying to find out if that's opinion or fact at the moment)
I think somebody has tickled Levy's fancy and if Poch is on board then maybe we'll get a fabled 'Levy special' in the coming days!

Personally though, smart money is on him staying and I'm more than happy with that.

There are things I would trust from AY. But players attitudes. not so sure it would be one of them. It would seem to be hard for a guy on this side of the pond to know that kind of information. Even if he heard things, it would be third or forth gen info. So Lewis info yes......Bobby sulking sounds like onion

Don't buy that at all, considering it's never really been his forte, I think Soldado has shown an admirable willingness to play for the team, try to do more outside the box.

Oh the hypocrisy, why have you never said that about Dawson playing the high line even though its not "his forte". Was it not admirable of him to be willing to play for the team?

But I've never ever criticised Dawson's willingness. It's the only thing he has in his kit bag.

When I watch Soldado the problem I see is that he is unable to do 'a bit of both'... He either stands on the shoulder of the last defender and (in last seasons games) doesn't really get a kick of the ball, but then when he comes deep or goes into wide areas to get involved he seems to get stuck there and so is never really a threat in the box. He hasn't been able to strike a balance, so far... Its something I think Kane and Adebayor do better than him, in this regard.

As much as I still don't believe Soldado to be the right fit for a Number 9 in the PL, selling him at the end of the window with no replacement would be fucking stupid.

Soldado won't go. We would've had some ITK on buying a new central striker if he was.

The Townsend-MS stuff on the other hand :woot::woot::woot:
AT is just the trout tickling. MS will be stand alone if done at all.
The lack of recent ITK about either Remy or Bony conversely suggests something is going on. Both clubs want the players out and nobody else seems interested. Classic Levy fishing grounds.

Soldado> < Welbeck?

Just saying.

Maybe
It would be VINTAGE spurs, to spend all transfer window desperately trying to improve weak areas, finally doing so, and then right at the end sell Soldado.
Maybe we are selling decent players for cash and using that to buy Falcao or Cavani and help the French teams with FPP

So dawson gone and potentially townsend out the door, maybe bobby n paulinho as well....how does our HG quota stack up then? If schneiderlin and wellbeck come in with fazio we will be 1 foreign player down and status quo for HG quota wont we?
We have 9 home grown players who were born before January 1, 1993:
Walker, Rose, Naughton, Fryers, Fredericks
Lennon, Townsend, Mason, Obika

We have 19 non-homegrown players born before January 1, 1993:
Goalkeepers – Friedel, Vorm, Lloris
Defenders – Kaboul, Vertonghen, Chiriches, Khumalo, BAE
Midfielders – Paulinho, Lamela, Dembele, Chadli, Eriksen, Holtby, Capoue, Sandro
Strikers – Adebayor, Soldado, Ceballos
We are only allowed to have 17 non homegrown in the squad of 25.
