The only person who can save Gazza is Gazza himself. His new girlfriend is in for a bumpy ride and I feel for her.

Lost cause sadly, everyone has done all they can to help him, but he won't or can't help himself

Be surprised if he makes New Year tbh

Sounds really horrible but if he isn't going to turn things around he is better off dead really before he tarnishes his great name further.

I really want him to turn things around but let's face it he is never going to and people like the great Gary Mabbutt have tried for years to help him.

Who's footing the bill for all this rehab, assisted housing etc? Last I knew he didn't have a penny to scratch his arse with. I understand that the man is mentally ill and is dependent on alcohol and drugs but frankly I have no sympathy. There are thousands of people in the UK alone who don't have a tenth of the support that he's had and manage to clean themselves up. I know its horrible, but seriously, let the man rot.

He rents a £3m house in Sandbanks, whether he still has some money or friends are helping him i dunno. Plus he is never short of money for drink

Do you think that makes an ounce of difference to him?

Depression is the most selfish illness there is.

Let the man rot?

Fuck.in.hell.

You're getting me totally wrong and quite frankly putting words in my mouth. I am not for a second suggesting that depression isn't a very real and a very horrible illness. A very close friend of mine has suffered for many years, and when I say suffer I mean to the point of trying to take his own life. However, what I can not stand are people being wrapped in cotton wool. He has been given all the tools to fight his addictions and conquer his demons. He has actively denied himself that help on several occasions, because getting better isn't the easy option. He's a selfish prick of the highest order and has done nothing but hurt those who love him. I echo what I already said. Let him rot. Give somebody who wants to get better the opportunity and not this washed up, sorry for himself, pathetic excuse of a man. The only sorrow I posses are for his children and relatives.

You don't seem to be grasping what I'm saying.

That makes no difference to him. We know he has all the tools to right the wrong - HE DOESN'T

That's what people with depression do - they hurt other around them. People with depression are SELFISH.

I'm not sure what words you think I've just put in your mouth?

Please enlighten me.

I'm pretty sure you said 'let the man rot' unless I just made that up.

By implying that I belittled the severity of depression when I'm quite aware of just how debilitating it can be. Oh and as far as a google search takes me his depression was on set by his dependance on alcohol and drugs. Unless of course it was underlying before the alcohol abuse. So tell me what we should do with the bloke then? He's had every professional under the sun analyzing and treating his mental health and alcohol issues. He's been in residential facilities, rehabs, seen psychiatrists etc etc. It's now gone past the point of him going on to live past his 50's even if he was to give up the booze right now, he's done permanent damage to his vital organs. It's simple, he lived a life of wanting to be popular and famous and he's now paying the price. Selfish, not because of his later depression but because of the bloke he is.

First and foremost he is an addict. Depression is a by-product and could be partly caused by self-hatred brought on for letting down all those people who try to help him paying for therapy, rehab, rent and everything else. It makes him dependent which he would hate while grabbing at it and being enabled to have his next drink.

It's a vicious circle and until he reaches rock bottom, which so far all his "helpers" have enabled him to avoid, he will never get recovery. He is consistently being given the opportunities to stay addicted and no-one around him really understands the concept of tough love.

The risk is that being left to his own devices, he will die anyway rather than get himself to AA and stay there permanently on a daily basis to get the kind of help he really needs. That takes humility which he has never learned or understood and, unfortunately, he has been shielded from finding it.
