Despite my serious doubts, I'm starting to think this 20+ pages of constant Martins talk might have been moaned about and made to stop by a mod now, if it wasn't him....

Mate, most of us have just let you all get on with it. There are only a couple of staff (not me) who know. They're not going to let on either way.

There's some interesting maths going on that involves 2s and 5s here. That's not ITK, that's me making fun of you all.

FWIW, a journalist pal (Benfica fan) says he's 'not as special as everyone thinks he is' but he would say that, Sporting look better than Benfica this year and he hates it!
I watched the match highlights of him against RM, and I think he may be right. He's very good though. But the individual highlights make him look like Cristiano Ronaldo in his best years at MU

Last I heard he was not that keen, and waiting. He was offered to us btw.

Can't understand why someone wouldn't be keen on a move to the London Trampolene Stadium. If they get relegated there's a good chance of the bouncing back up

There's a very easy way of identifying our new mystery player.

Just look for the latest 'Welcome to Liverpool' videos.

There is a kind of logic to this in as much as they genuinely thought they could get him earlier in the window. They opted for Salah instead as a cheaper option - probably because they needed to splash cash elsewhere. If he was actually achievable (in theory) for them then he should be the same for us.

The guy looks the business I agree with most on here, and I did notice him when he was playing in an International match, but he doesn't score as many goals as Mane though (Edit - yet!).

Martins signed a contract extension in February that ties him to Sporting until June 2022 with a release clause of 60 million euros.

The club, though, are under financial pressure to sell players having failed to qualify directly for the Champions League group stages.

Liverpool, or any other potential suitor, would therefore be confident of negotiation regarding the fee.

Yeah, he's definitely not that good. But then, what do we need? Someone like Mané who you can put in with his pace when we win the ball high, and can finish.

He would do that for us, and there are very few who can employ that skillset at a high level (EPL). We've been looking for one for 2 years now.

Liverpool are always going to outmuscle us on wages so let's hope they've forgotten about him.

They got through the qualifying rounds and are now in the group stages.

It doesn't make a difference if you qualify directly or through the qualifiers.

Not convinced that the cryptic was about Martins at all. Let's be honest, "Jehovah" as a clue because his manager is called Jesus is pretty crap and I'm pretty sure Rob and A&C are capable of much better.

However, judging by the reaction of other ITKs to certain posts, then I concede that it is true that we might have stumbled across a link to another target i.e. Martins, by accident as a result of the cryptic.

And while the Andre Gomes anagram is clever (apart from shoehorning the RE bit in) Rob's post about the origin of the cryptic and the extremely sensitive nature of it don't really match with a bid for Gomes. Sure the club wouldn't want any of its business known, but why would Gomes be more of a secret than Sanchez or Foyth or Aurier for example?
