You never saw Hoddle play, yet you put Bill Nic on the pedestal?
You saw him manage then?
I was there when Hoddle made his debut, and right through to his final match. To this day not one single player has come close to his status with the club, not even King, who for me is a total legend.

You seem to be moving the goalposts to suit your agenda. I suggest you treat yourself to footage of Hoddle playing, there’s plenty of it.
To this day, there isn’t a single English player who even came close to his level of ability, and only maybe 2 or 3 in World Football, one of them being Zidane.

THAT’s how good he was.

And he did it with us because he loved, and still loves, the club.

Didn't the italian manager who won the world cup in 82 say that if he had hoddle he'd base his whole team around him? Anyway probably for another thread.

^^ this, the most gifted player to play for us certainly in my spurs lifetime '73 just a brilliant player. Greenwood fucked him over imo should have had far more appearances as a starter for England. Team should have built round him. My memory only slightly tainted by his association with the chelscum.

Everyone wants him to leave us but everyone thinks he's a manager with no bottle or winning mentality.

What's making me laugh is the number of Utd fans who are calling up radio stations and saying things like "we should just go out and get him, we're Manchester United!", as if the last five years haven't happened or something and Utd are still the absolute powerhouse in the league.

They say the same about Kane and practically any player or member of staff they decide should be playing for them - "just go out and get him". Good job their fans don't run the show else they'd have been much more comparable to Leeds than just having Cantona on their books.

Utd fans want so much to be competing with Citeh when, in truth, no-one can compete with Citeh. They, literally, have a bottomless pit of money and the pull to not give a shit about FFP or anything like that. United fans have to re-calibrate their expectations in line with both Citeh above them and the fact that they are now in among five or six other clubs who they are directly competing with for signings, league position, etc.

Over on ArseMania:-

Must bounce back. Cannot lose against this lot, cup game or not.

Just win Arsenal.

I'd play our strongest team possible, think Cech could play:

Lacazette
Auba - Özil - Mkhi
Xhaka - Torreira
Monreal - Sokratis - Mustafi - Lich
Cech

I'm expecting Kane and possibly Alli on the bench for them, although you never know. Wouldn't be surprised if Poch played a weakened team, got knocked out and then claimed the moral high ground afterwards claiming that this is a bigger competition for Arsenal than Spurs.

I think they'll play their strongest side, whatever that is.

I wouldn't be against chucking one of our kids in a more established XI to see how they do.

I'd start Özil as well, but he's sh*t so we should stick with Mhki and Iwobi.

Smith-Rowe would definitely be ahead of Miki for me if he wasn't injured, although Saka in that position could be interesting too.

Is Smith Rowe back?

Hopefully now Emery will see sense and drop the non-performing Iwobi.

Controversial but I dont care of we lose this unless we commit properly to a full B team. We just dont have the squad to risk first teamers in this competition. Two legged semi final would destroy us.

We'll probably will have mix between youth and first team spurs will rotate too and thier reserves is total s**t so expecting we beat them.

I’d play kids for this, they’re such a dirty team as is and any more injuries would really start to f*ck us.

Priorities have to be league and Europa League, unfortunately CL is the be all and end all going forward.

I dont think Poch will play full strength tbh

Playing Blackpool or Solihull in the FA Cup 3 or 4 days before the first leg would slightly mitigate that, no? Even the 2nd leg is between Chelsea in the league and the 4th round of the FA Cup so more rotation would be possible.

They will probably rotate a bit as they've started to look a bit flat lately, but surely this is a derby and they will look to revenge for the loss of few weeks ago.

I would play a strong team and make sure we get our momentum back, what better occasion than to beat your rivals again.

I think sp*rs will play a surprisingly strong side. Poch got crucified by their fans for leaving Aldi-Weird out of the NLD

We never win this ****ing crap cup anyways .

Saka, Willock and Nketiah didn't play for the u23's today so you'd have to think they're being considered to play some part on Wednesday.

True but the point is to knock Spurs out from their only real chance at a trophy.

Id rest our regulars, not just for their sake, but also a good time to see which youngsters are ready to make the step up during the busy period. For all of ESR and more recently Saka's rise, Emery doesn't seem too keen to really play them in the league. Will be a good chance to lay a real claim for genuine playing time. We need options.

I think Torreira needs a short breather, if we can get others to do his job for this game... same goes for Leno.

Most of 1st teams won't play specially Torreira auba Leno it'll be mix between young and reserves players i know its spurs but we need to keep our squad healthy

we're not winning this. Our momentum is now gone. Spurs will be itching to get us back and no doubt the ref will gift them chances to do so.

Losing this could be devastating for morale, and the fans might start to turn.

Pissed off with some of your line ups. A moron could see we're playing full strength for this.

Emery has indicated time and time again that every trophy is important. He wants one in his first season. No way he's putting the kids out for this.

Such a catch 22 this game, wish it was against anyone but Spurs.

Some of the comments here are nuts...
W3ZIG2h.gif

We've improved beyond all expectation under Emery, he needs to fashion a defence to match our attack and no, this game doesn't really matter as in my view, we have a snowballs chance in hell if winning (or frankly wanting to win) this competition - but we'll play mostly full strength anyway, as the morale of another scum victory can't be underestimated.

we re gonna win this cup, and we ll **** those ****s.

Its 4-0 written in the stars

Emery loves his cup runs and he’s also a trophy manager which means he’ll field the strongest possible lineup. He loves winning and a trophy in his first year is something he desperatly wants.

He probably doesn’t even know this is called a mickey mouse cup and even if, he doesn’t care. A trophy is a trophy!
Cech
Lichtsteiner (If fit)
Kos
Sokratis
Monreal
Xhaka
Torreira
Aubameyang
Özil
Mkhitaryan
Lacazette

Think you're in cuckoo land if you reckon that these trophy deprived losers come to our stadium and play a weakened team two weeks after their first team got pumped here. And hell, if they do, even better - let's humiliate them again.

No weakened teams please. Let's end their season.

Looks like we're going into this with a similar squad to the one 2 weeks ago. Monreal and Koscielny in for Holding and Bellerin. Think we should go with a back four unless Kolasinac is fit, in which case Monreal can slot in in place of Holding.

Think both teams will have a relatively strong team without going completely full strength (as full strength as fitness will allow anyway). Think some youngsters will probably be on the bench.

Talk about a must win.

Don't mind a fielding a strong team but these s***s play dirty as hell. We're already maxing out our injury room.

Please god let us play the kids.

Nothing-cup with not much to gain there. We outclassed them in the league, there's nothing left to prove, but we can loose even more players due to unnecessary injuries. Let's focus on the important competitions and make that one important by giving young talents that invaluable experience

We probably don't have enough fit players to rotate.

Hopefully we can bin the scum again and play the kids in the semi

This really isn’t a cup we should be too bothered about and the two legged semi final could see us drop points in the league.

I know it’s Tottenham but if it was a choice between progress in this or finishing above them then it should be an obvious one.

According to some random dude on twitter; Özil, Mustafi & Bellerin (which we already knew) won't be involved today, I guess we'll see if he is correct in a few hours time.

Edit: Think he is chatting rubbish but again we'll see.

I would be happy to see Saka on the wing and the rest of the group should be senior players, and maybe Nketiah. It's quite embarrassing that from 25 senior players only 17 year old kid can dribble past players

A real trophy > the Top 4 trophy.
Bring the Haribo Cup home, leave Top 4 trophies for Poch & Klopp.

Go full strengh, Its a chance to beat Spurs. Its our duty to stop them winning trophies.

Its not the best cup in the world but why not go for it again? a potential trip to Wembley, Something to help get that first one under the belt for Emery.

Hate to break it again to you lot, we're not rotating,

Klopp had similar issues with Liverpool first two seasons, players were getting burnt down by Feb-Mar due to heavy pressing game style and small squad. We would be in trouble if we don't roatate squad intelligently. Already we lost Monreal for few weeks by playing him in pointless games.

A trophy is a trophy. We have a chance in three trophies this year, Tottenham in two. Beat them tonight and it's FA Cup or nothing for that great non-winner of trophies Pochettino.

I wouldn't give up on this for the CL because it is by no means clear we will qualify for it even if we throw this away

Accepting defeat to the enemy in our own home? Fvck that! I don't care if this was a charity match, nothing but a win here

Look at is this way - if we throw this away then draw Burton, we're going to look pretty silly.

Yes, we'll rotate a few positions (play Xhaka, rest Torreira, play Laca rest Auba, give Kos a chance to draw breath and give Ramsey and Özil starts); not really rocket science.

That’s what they did with Moyes, and LVG and Jose. And the same with Pogba and Sanchez. Keep throwing your millions in desperation, there’s always someone to fleece you.

From what I can see, United have already bought Toby, Jan, Eriksen and Kane next summer, as well as appointed Poch... obviously.

So we're in their shadow, irrelevant to them and yet it's their duty to end our season? They're scared of our progress. Would love to knock em out tonight whoever plays. Hate their arrogant asses.

Let's end their season

Yeah, because the Rumbelows trophy cup is the zenith of our season. Forget that Champions League nonsense, the other domestic cup that people actually care about, or the fact we're technically still in the title race *cough* well, closer than them :p

Exactly - what a fucking moronic comment. They are still miles behind us and just because they managed to raise their game and beat us in what was quite clearly their December cup final they believe they are superior all of a sudden.

Fucking Woolwich mugs. COYFS

The Alli goal;

----
FECKEN HELL> SSSSHHHHHHIIIIITTTTEEEE

**** off, what kind of **** it this

Well, that was again bad

Everything was wrong tonight, everything.

Tactical my ARSE!

so the tactical HT switch made us significantly worse

Koscielny again complicated stuff

Xhaka and Kos confused about who should pick Kane up, neither end up doing so and give him space to pick that pass
Well done emery

Tbf dele ali has been sick
-----

So they're turning on Koscielny for getting old, despite being their most consistent player for many years, they're turning on Emery for his tactical skills or lack thereof, and us for being... well, us (y)

and yes, Dele Alli has been sick tonight 8)

At least we're not Spurs. Their cheating is quite something to behold

Threw the ball away, took longer to kick off then I take to poo, Kane fell on the ball and humped it for a few seconds, Ali ran the ball away for 45 yards, Rose dropped the ball accidentally on purpose taking a throw, snide little fouls here and there. I want us to manage games, not like that, thank you
