I’m guessing it’s because he’ll have 12 months left on his contract

Last summer they put a price of 200m on his head " well was quoted" this transfer window we would be looking at 80-100M at a push, come the summer it will be around the 40-60m i would imagine

I'm hoping Madrid go for Hazard as they have been courting him for a while, and leave Eriksen alone. I'm hoping they think Hazard is the "bigger name" and they have enough playmaking types with Kroos, Modric, Isco, Ceballos, Kovacic etc so don't need Eriksen. The RM president likes to splash out on a big name and Hazard is probably the easiest big name for them to get.

Also Hazard has publicly said he would consider Madrid for a while now, whereas Eriksen hasn't.

For the record, I think Eriksen is almost priceless for us and think he would get into Madrid's side. I also think we would balls up replacing him. Maybe Madrid might offer makeweights which could help? I don't know but I am worried.

If Madrid is Eriksen's dream move - it'll be his agent putting those stories out about now imo. Would be a shame to lose him this summer, would've liked a full season in the new stadium with all of them - but seemingly we'll lose Alderweireld, Dembele and Eriksen at least by the end of 2019.

And what I'm saying is that we will get market value. It's not like the situation with Toby where we will get maybe 50% of the normal price due to the clause.
I’m guessing he doesn’t mean the market value due to his remaining contract but market value of someone of his qualities

This was raised in the ITK thread - comments by Julien Laurens - french journo - related to Eriksen. I think they have been twisted a bit - because he talks about Erisken to RM in the summer not now, and its more conjecture than any inside info, imo.

But, here is the clip from ESPN:

There are so many variables at play here that I don't think it warrants getting wound up over the possibility that Madrid will come in for Eriksen just yet.

They're sure to have a new manager over the summer who will have his own ideas about what he wants to do with the squad. They need investment all over the pitch and currently have Isco, Kovacic, and James on the books who all play roughly the same role as Eriksen. You'd think that the eventual fate of all three of those players would have a huge bearing on their thoughts regarding Eriksen, and you'd also think that the new manager will have a lot of influence over whether any or all of them are still in the squad next season. Madrid supporters on Reddit seem to feel that the No. 10 position is the last area that needs to be addressed in their squad, so they may focus their spending elsewhere.

Even if they see Eriksen as the potential heir to Modric rather than an upgrade on Isco, there's no guaranteeing that they'll settle on him as the main target for that role. Casemiro has had a really poor season so it could be that the new manager wants a more robust CM such as SMS or Pogba to be the Modric replacement rather than the relatively lightweight Eriksen.

Equally, it could be that the new manager will look at the fact that Eriksen is holding out on renewing his contract specifically in the hopes that Madrid will come in for him, along with the fact that there's little doubting he would improve them, and decide that he does want to make Eriksen's signing a priority.

The overall point I'm trying to get across is just that we don't know yet how serious Madrid will be about actually pursuing this signing, and likely won't until their new manager is in place. No point in worrying about it until then.

Personally, this makes sense to me (as totally unpopular as that is) If it isn't about contracts/cash and more about the status of the interested team (hinted at by ITK) then sell and reinvest with a view to the short to mid term this season and more so next.

I personally would be surprised if we gained CL qualification if we sold Eriksen in January with no reasonable replacement.

I agree he is priceless yet if the inevitable is going to happen i would rather we got maximum value. However if a bid comes in from his 'boyhood club' and we reject it there's no gurantee he will oerform on the pitch and it would just be downhill. I think we should asses the offer once in for all its merits.

Unfortunately I think this is inevitable move. Perfect Modric replacement at cheaper price than if he was a long term contract. It's an absolute no brainer from Madrids point of view. I don't see it as a choice between Hazard and Eriksen though, I think they'll end up with both.

The competition is too fierce this year for us to fuck about. CL qualification is vital

We’ll get top 4 but is it that vital? Eriksen is a perfect example of CL or not we can’t stop players joining Madrid or Barca. We don’t spend the amounts required to buy the sorts of players who will only join if we’re in CL - and even that’s a myth, it’s all about contract size. Kane and Dele wouldn’t suddenly go oh no CL right I’m off, they’ll leave when they choose to leave if they choose at all.

We don’t need CL to spend as we only spend what we earn from sales anyhow. I used to think it’s part of the process and our path but now I just think we’ve hit brick wall and CL isn’t the issue. Our revenue increase without CL is going to be vast, but I suppose a positive is it could be used as an excuse as to why we haven’t bought anyone this coming summer.
