If he doesn’t sign a new contract he needs to used in rotation.

No point stifling Sanchez and Foyth game time and progression

That should be the case for ALL players in the squad not just Toby, we need CL football the following season Toby in Defence provides the best opportunity for that. what I would like is in the games where we have a healthy lead to rotate in defence etc. its my biggest gripe with Poch at times. those lower positioned teams who we beating and don't look like scoring yet he still waits until the 80th minute to make the substation.

If Poch has forgiven him and can work with him I’m good. He’s a top CB and despite everything happening off the pitch always seems to put in a shift and act like a pro on the pitch. If we can get another year from him while the changes to the WB’s bed in then we’d be mad not too. At least next summer we’d only be looking at a CB shake up rather than the whole back line.

I can’t see him signing a new deal. I think he would have done so by now and the only reason I can think why no one has activated his clause is due to the wages he’s demanding, because £25m is well below market value.

And if other clubs won’t pay him what he wants then we certainly won’t.

has he been offered a new contract since we failed to agree the one he was offered a few years ago?

I've never believed that there was ever an issue with Poch & Toby. For me it was clearly the Club VS Toby. We (incl ITK) were fed spin from last year....

1. Toby has played his last game. Poch wants rid.
2. He went back on his word after Poch fought for him.... Want nonsense (worse is so many believed this, granted in the last year a handful of posters didn't buy it)
3. If Toby stays, Poch walks...

I've been consistent in saying there's two sides to a story.. We haven't heard Toby's side of the story.

I've personally believed the club was attempting to push him out the door due to the release clause. Toby/agent have rejected any approaches for what ever reason they see fit. It's not that no clubs have come in for him.

What I don't understand is why he didn't sign the contract he was offered. He would've doubled his wages over the last few seasons and he'd still be young enough to earn a contract elsewhere once it expired.

That’s my point. I think after being ever present in the team since this all happened and with the release clause looming, if the club were going to offer him a new contract on improved teams ( although maybe not as much as he’d like ) they would have done so by now.

Well it was said before that he wouldn't be offered a new contract while Poch was here. Hercules is now saying that their relationship may have improved. If this is correct then it could lead to a new contract being offered. We'll have to see what happens in the next twelve months.

Why would you want to weaken the team by rotating Alderwereld

Have a think rationally from the player's point of view, why would Toby let Tottenham pocket 25m pounds now and accept 180k a week when Toby can pocket say, 15m pounds signing on fee and still accept circa 200k a week next summer on a free?

Win-Win for him, his agent and the buying club.

As much as i rather he sign a new deal with us, it's just not gonna happen, he woulda sign that long ago if he wanted to.

Perhaps it was the length of it and giving spurs the "power" to accept or decline offers etc. Hercs latest info alludes to something more on a personal level. Remember when the stories first started via ITK....about 18 months back the story was the club wanting the release clause removed.

Hopefully one day we will get his version of events.

This is useful but she says money is uncountable... (n)

*engage grammar thread mode* Money is uncountable, otherwise we'd talk about 1 money, 2 monies, three monies.

Pounds on the other hand are countable and I'm just hoping its taking too long for everyone to count 25 million of them before Friday.

I think we should all brace ourselves for the next couple of days! There is no way he won't get offers still.

Because Sanchez and Foyth are our Future and they will only get better by playing, so when Toby inevitably leaves we won't feel it as much.
True, but the managers job is to win. Simple as that. He has to field the best team to accomplish this. I think we can all agree Toby is included in the best 11.

I always felt he would only leave if a very top club came in for him, similar to Eriksen. Otherwise he may as well stay. Also with the ambition we've shown with signings he is probably excited about the upcoming season.

I really do think the signing of Ndombele and likely signing of Lo Celso has them thinking differently of their future at Spurs.

This. Though I struggle to believe he’d get those weekly wage numbers. First, I just don’t think there are many clubs that pay that much let alone for a 31 yr old CB with significant injuries in the last couple years. Second, based on what has been reported from a connected source, wage wise, 200k is a massive leap.

From the outside looking in it seems simple.

He has said that he will be here this season.

He has said he would like to play for Ajax again.

He doesn't want to go to Roma, Utd or anywhere else and has discouraged all suitors from even trying. Therefore no bids.

-----------

He said: "I don't want to make too popular statements, but [a return] is certainly 100% in my head. I have had wonderful times here [in Ajax] with three championships, but also lows. But my family was happy here too."

Ajax would be stretched thin to pay his reported current weekly wage (£55k) but they could give him a pile of money as a signing on after collecting €130M from FdJ and MdL.

€60K wk for 3 yrs, €9.4M + €15M signing bonus is a massive savings for Ajax (or anyone) compared to paying £25M + the players contract. They could move numbers around to lessen their weekly wage burden and provide more money up front.

The more I think this through the more plausible it sounds.

Its all very, very odd, his agent has bound to have loads of contact from clubs asking what sort of contract he is looking for, now either Toby has said he isn't interested in these clubs or the money offered isn't enough. There must be a club who has said we will offer you an absolute fortune if you are free, he is taking a risk here he is an injury away from being clubless.
