People will talk about Spursyness or something, but in both this game and Arsenal we were fortunate to go 2-0 up. More so in this game.

The problem is we are unable to control any game apart from against the flimsiest of opponents (Palace). We look so open to the counter when our attacks break down and too often we’re stretched around the pitch

I don’t know if sticking Dier in as DM is an answer, because he’s looked so short of fitness and form for a long time, and then there’s the question of the make up of the rest of the midfield.

My hope is we can get DESK playing together for a run of games, establish a better pattern of play through them, get some consistency at FB, and then there will be less work for the midfield and CBs to do as a consequence.
I was with you until you mentioned giving Eriksen a run of games. How much more games does he need?

Sorry but apart from the first half against Palace, the last 12 minutes against Villa and glimpses against Arse, we do look like that in our league games.
If the heat and humidity was so bad, how come Olympiacos team managed to run around so much? Yes I know they may play in it week in week out but we are supposed to be one of the fittest teams in the prem, yet we look knackered already this season and that's without most of the team being away at a world cup like last year.

We certainly haven't looked that fatigued.

Just out of interest have you ever played football at a fairly decent level? If so have you ever played abroad in heat and humidity that you aren't used to against a team that are apart from European matches? You'd sure notice the difference. Going from playing 23 degrees at the weekend to 30 degrees last night is a massive difference and unless you have the time to acclimatise then you're going to feel fcuked.
It doesn't account for short misplaced passes but chasing the ball and counter attacks are pretty difficult later in to the game. even Son looked fcuked after 10 minutes.

I am an Olympiacos fan and I read with great interest what you are commenting in this thread. I see that most of you believe that it should have been an easy match for your team and its a bad result that you didnt eventually win.

How do you believe this when in the last 8 UCL games with English teams the results where 0-0 with Chelsea, 1-0, 3-1 and 2-1 with Arsenal, 2-0 with ManU, 0-3 from Arsenal, 3-1 with Bernly and 2-2 yesterday, thus 5 wins for Olympiacos, two draws including yesterday one and only one defeat.

Taking into consideration the above it was a good result for Tottenham.

Wishing you the best of luck on your next matches.

Thanks for writing this. I think many (including myself) were a bit cocky about this game and as you rightly say, perhaps a draw was a decent result. In many ways though it is the performance rather than the result that is disappointing - in particular from some key players.

From my POV I actually don’t have an issue with starting the likes of Dele and Davies as we need the ability to rotate the squad and have everyone match fit.

It was a decent result before kickoff, after being 2-0 up its a crap result.

Is he fit, really?
And, Skipp was excellent in pre-season. Surely he deserves to feature as much as Wanyama who we clearly want to sell
I dont know if he is fit or not, I was just putting out there. A fit Wanyama would probably trump a Skipp. That is the only explanation I could think why Poch chose him over Skipp.

It's a strange one. I would probably have accepted a point before the game - so the result in isolation isn't awful.

However it was a thoroughly abject performance with little character, intensity or heart coupled with some frankly awful individual performances on a technical level.

So in context, the result - considering the above - was 'ok-ish', but people have every right to be critical of the performance over the 90 minutes.

Winksy was decent though, and Lamela showed more than most in his brief cameo.

I expected my team to play better and there be better individual performances. Doesn't guarantee we'll win but with these current performances it does guarantee we wont win anything.

What exactly is the alternative, especially with Lo Celso crocked? Dele, Eriksen, Son and Kane have only played a couple of full games together in the last six months, and one of those was the CL final where Kane was half-fit. There's no doubt the the four of them together are greater than the sum of their parts.

I think we have looked fatigued. Maybe I have confused the slow turgid walking football that we have been dished up with this season with knackered-ness.

Foundations at the back need sorting though, whole team shape is a mess. For them to fire Poch needs to get the basics right again.

I maintain it was why we suffered so badly in the CL Final. Anyone who was there will tell you the same as me, it was so hot. I cant imagine what playing football would have been like, drinking lager and eating tapas was bad enough. It impacted our players 100%. Same as the heat the weekend of the Newcastle defeat but hotter and more humid.

The Newcastle players managed to run around and close us down for the whole 90 mins

We've gone from being the fittest team in the league, to looking exhausted from the off.
This year was supposed to be different from last because we'd had a proper break but we look even worse. That, coupled with our constant injuries, must surely point to there being something wrong with our training set up.

I love Rio Ferdinands 'Harry Kane has to leave Spurs to win trophies', because we drew an away CL group game.
I dont mind him as a pundit but my God.

Hardly a role model for loyalty....ask the pikeys and leeds....leeds in particular was all about the wages.
