Yes but a bloke that will likely get us to win something. I'd rather have shit football and win silverware than shit football and win nothing.

I should add I'm not advocating Jose but I want us to win some competitions.

That's the thing though. A lot of people calling for us to bring in Mourinho seem to think that he'll win us the league but I just don't think we're anywhere near being able to with this squad regardless of how good you think Mourinho is. If you want to just win something/anything, even if it's just a League Cup then so be it but I don't get why people think Mourinho is going to somehow make us better than City in the league. It's just not going to happen.

Time to start thinking about getting back to what made us good in the first place under him.

I'm honestly far more interested in the performance than the result this weekend.

And the thing I'm fed up most with is how we start games, such a slow tempo it's unreal and sets a crap tone for the rest of the game whilst the opposition grow in confidence.

Time to take games by the scuff, actions speak louder than words etc

IMO the slow starts point to a lack of confidence. It's like we have to pass the ball around for 20 minutes til everyone has had a few touches before we can start to try anything creative. It's certainly something that needs drastic improvement.

I dont think anybody is saying that we would be expecting a league win. A cup win? Absolutely yes though, it's frankly shameful that we havent won anything.

That's where we differ. For me, in the modern game the domestic cups are largely an irrelevance. Lots of people will presumably dislike this post because a lot of people are very defensive of the FA Cup in particular, but while I'd obviously not turn my nose up at it, winning a cup really is just a nice day out when all's said and done. By the start of the next season I can barely even remember who won the FA Cup the previous season and as for the Carabao Cup the less said the better. Winning the league is what matters and personally I don't think Mourinho would get us any closer to that and I'm not prepared to sacrifice our long term goals for the sake of having a day out at Wembley and win the [InsertHighestBidderHere] Cup.

He's a top manager but people are overestimating how good he is/how bad Poch is.

Allegri was the master of the 1-0 then park the bus tactic at Juve, and was bailed out several times in the 17/18 season by (ironically) Dybala.

People scoffing at Mourinho because of his playing style should be wary of Allegri if that's what they care about...

Ah yes, you mean the season where they scored 86 goals and had +62 in goal difference? That's some nice bus parking..

@Phomesy I feel I should clarify something, seeing as you've got me playing for the #TeamJose 11

I in no way want Poch sacked, I desperately want him to turn things around, and get us playing the way I know he can.
My defence of Jose stems from the snobbishness and moral superiority complex that a lot posters displayed when his name was mentioned.
I do feel that if Poch wasn't able to fix things and left/was given the tin tack, we should be looking at managers of the calibre of Jose, proven winners that our players would instantly respect, rather than 10 year projects with up and coming managers with no winning pedigree.

And if you were making a list of proven managers with a winning pedigree who were currently available....it would be a pretty short list.

Yeah it was just a bit of fun and I was just picking out names that were popping up in this thread a lot. I know you're hardly a "knee-jerker" (not that anyone else is before I get death threats! I'm aware 6-8 months of poor form = justified concern!)

U still had a stinker with @shelfboy68 in goal....he'd be slower off his line than Friedel!

We may not and probably won’t win the league but at least we may win a cup. Something which seems beyond us under Poch.

Watching the press conference I feel really sorry for Poch, he is fighting against something that cannot be changed or fixed until January and trying to make do. Watching him, you would think we were battling relegation and knee deep in shit - we arent that.

Levy has got to just help Poch in January and not wait till January but sort shit out now so that January 1st - things happen immediately.

Gonna be a great nine days starting with SCBC - gonna hammer them COYSSSSSSSSSSSS

Even if Levy is willing what are the chances any high calibre players are available in January?

They won't be we have been repeatedly told that January is not an ideal window in which to do business, because it's too short as we like to haggle for months and players aren't available.

I think a little bit of unrest may work in Poch's favour, refocus him etc.

Sometimes a little bit of uncertainty crystallises things.

Tbf, I think all clubs haggle, it’s a negotiation. It’s tough for all clubs to do business in January. As you say it’s not an ideal window to do business in.

Any players we sign in January will be lucky to play the last 3 games in the season after getting up to speed with Poch's tactics and fitness regime.

I think we’re better off signing players in Jan than the summer.. At least they may be able to help in a couple of games towards the end of the season, and have no excuses arriving late in pre-season. We should do all our business in Jan, the summer window never really does us any favours hahaha

Problem is a lot of clubs wont sanction sales of players in Jan if they are doing well in their leagues/cup competitions.

Poch has earned the right to be given the time he needs, especially if his head and heart are still in it. People are far too quick to want him out, if he did leave now, would we be any better? I really doubt it.
