No mention on SC so far of his interview on Football Focus last weekend?

He didn't say too much, seemed pretty calm. Basically said that he thinks things are improving but would like to see us win more games at home, says it's frustrating for the players and he understands the fans not being happy. No mention of him leaving or anything (which I thought was surprising with January coming up, thank you to the BBC interviewer (unless Donna told him not to ask)).

Seemed reasonably happy and had a bit of banter with Dembele and Stambouli.

It seemed a bit of a plastic interview tbh and I don't just mean the kiddie stools they were sitting on. Very 'diplomatic', lots of stock answers.

True, but almost a good thing with Jan - didn't give any excuse for the 'he's not happy enough' crowd to jump on it. There were a few sighs when our home form was mentioned, but I think that's pretty standard Jan.

To be honest I think I was just pleased that it was nice and boring and didn't end up with a thousand 'Jan wants out' threads.

I still think he wants out :sneaky:

I don't think he's stropping or exhibiting poor body language, but I do think he'll have an eye on a CL club come the summer and understandably doesn't want to commit to us, given our irratic nature and false dawns.

Completely agree. Frankly if I was him I'd run a mile first opportunity of CL I could sniff out. But I don't have a problem with his body language while he's here.

I'm baffled by the people claiming negative body language. I feel the need to defend on him on this because he rather reminds me of me - me saying "Oh, that's great" is pretty much the equivalent to somebody else jumping up and down and squealing. Him being fairly low-key rather than perma-smiley isn't a problem for me when you have spontaneous reactions like the one to Eriksen's winner on Sunday to prove that yes, he does care. I think he can be a bit complacent, but it's not disinterest IMO.

I have no trouble understanding it if he wants out. He'll have his agent reminding him that mediocre defenders like Rojo, Jones, Vermaelen and David Luiz are probably making double what he is and coasting it in glamour clubs. He's not necassarily better than them, but necassarily worse either.

As long as he gets on with it and does his job properly, he can want whatever he wants.

But what was his body language like?, according to the experts on here he could not give a shit ;)

I would have hardly batted an eye at him leaving last summer after his performances that season but in the past 3/4 months I think he's been probably one of the top 5 CBs in the league. He's also displaying a lot more passion and commitment and helped the replacement of Fazip with Dier look seamless. I also really enjoy the Ajax/Belgium connection. They're all really good professionals and seem to give us an identity that fits well with the homegrown Kane/Mason crew.

His celebrations recently certainly don't appear to be that of someone who's unhappy at the club. In fact, quite the opposite. I mean, if a massive club came in for him I'm sure he'd leave no qualms but he just seems a lot happier now than at any point since his first season.

He's showing passion with his verbals, he's getting stuck in with his challenges (some a bit naughty) and he's scoring. He's running the length of the pitch to celebrate other players' goals and pulling mental face celebrations which isn't something he always did last season, or the beginning of this.

I'll be gutted if he leaves this season.

Jan looks happy again, like he gives a toss recently. Coincidently since he didn't have to play with Kaboul every week

I still wouldn't be surprised to see him move on in the summer, city or utd seem most likely, but if he keeps on playing like he cares I'll accept it more readily than if he sulked his way through the rest of his time with us

I think that mental face celebration might gives us some clue as to why he's normally so po-faced - weird uncontrollable things happen when his face tries to display happiness.

I think he's back to his best, which probably has a lot to do with having developed a strong partnership with Fazio, somebody he clearly has faith in. He also seems to have responded well to Poch and, with the continuing drama surrounding whatever's going on with Kaboul and Ade, seems to have quietly stepped up into an unofficial vice-captain role.

Jan is a difficult one because on his day he is excellent and under AVB in his first season he was incredible, since then weather it is confidence or our constant changing of managers etc he's never quite seemed to reach that level again.

I don't think we would easily find anyone better than him at CB so would love him to stay but I see actions at times that would suggest he may want to leave if the right opportunity came up and fair play to him, however I'd not be massively gutted as for example against Sunderland he showed the side of him which isn't great e.g. giving away silly fouls, tugging players shirts.

He got done at the Bridge by Remy earlier in the year and ever since then I've realised perhaps he's not as world class as we used to think.

Would love him to stay for many years though if possible, as i say doubt we'd find anyone much better than him.

I think he's really stood out the last 3 or 4 games and i've been more impressed with him than i have been in a long time, i still think he prefers not playing alongside Rose or Kaboul but that just might be me.

One thing that caught my attention was when he reached his 100th cap for us he said he hoped to get at least 100 more. Last season would've sent any player into full on indifference towards the club, but I think he is fully behind us these days as is eriksen. I think they both might have thought we were a bit of a joke at one point last season admit all the internal turmoil, but slowly I think pochetinno is showing them and lloris that this is a great club that might be worth sticking around for.

If we keep all three for 2/3 more seasons, lamela comes good and Kane progresses to his seemingly limitless potential, I fully believe we will have a shot at the title in the near future.

I've seen him high five Rose on multiple occasions after making a good tackle. I think the part with Kaboul is definitely true but I don't think anyone in the team can have qualms with how Rose and Davies have played this season.

my take on vertonghen last year is that he is an extremely driven and focused individual and since last year we were extremely poor dysfunctional and i understand why he wouldn't give a shit about the mess we were last year, but it is no excuse for his behavior. But i think vertonghen's rebound season is a testament to the total management job that poch and his staff has brought so far to the club. I am of the belief that he is happy to stay at spurs as long as a better offer isn't in place.

I’ve got to say with a heavy heart that I’m OK with him leaving on a free this summer now. He’s been a fabulous player and I’m quite shocked at the speed of his decline physically this year, but him leaving will hopefully force Levy to buy another left sided CB, which we do need doing forward.

I would like to see him get another contract and don't think his decline is as great as being made out, just need a bit more steel in midfield.
