Was all looking good until I saw Dier in there. I hate to say it but in his current form I just don't see one positive thing that he brings.
I think he will be in there to put a few hard tackles on Grealish. His pride will want to show this young upstart who is running the CM today.

I'm just hoping that we cut out the silly mistakes and actually play with some urgency from the off as opposed to the all too familiar last 10 minutes witnessed this season.

Will be interesting how our system shifts now that Davies is back. Jose's been going on about how his gameplan went out of the window as soon as we lost Davies' capability to slip back into a back 3 out of possession as he did against West Ham.

I don't fully buy it, but you'd hope we'd see more of a coherent shape and system today, especially defensively.

Would've liked to have seen at least one of GF, TG or Lo Celso but with this being the (dare I say it) easiest of our next 3 fixtures, I can understand the team selection. COYS.

What is it with people in here? Given the recent fitness of some of the players in question and the games we have coming up, we were never going to go out full strength today, unless we wanted to see this team line up in midweek ... Perhaps an argument for Skipp ahead of Dier, but given the circumstances, i'd say the decision was fair enough.

Our number 1 priority needs to be the league. Win today and top 4 is a real possibility. Getting passed RBL is going to be extremely difficult as it is and getting to the final again is a complete pipe dream.

Thing is though if you're Grealish you'd probably be pretty happy to have Dier marking you, he's not exactly fleet-footed.

V strong team.
Nice to see Davies back.
Only ? Is why is Dier playing when we could be starting lo celso, gedson, ndombele etc?
I get that he’s our only real DM but he’s not had a good game in years, anyway I’ll get behind him and hopefully we see the return of v2016 dier CDM.

villa have half their team missing, I know the conditions are poor but city beat them 6-1 at villa park, nothing less than 3 points is really acceptable today.

spurs vs grealish here we gooooo.

I'm going to trust Mou on this one, I wasn't impressed to see Dier in midfield but what with the busy schedule and the fact we haven't seen him in training then we have to trust him.

this time last year most people, me included would have said that about the Dortmund tie and look what happened. This is a game in conditions like these that you just got to hope things fall your way and we get over the line in whatever way we can.

Wow davies must have dirt on or has hypnotized JM
Why do you say that?

As a defender he’s our best LB and for that inside deep lying LB in Jose’s system he is almost the perfect player for it. He’s been training and working his way back from an injury for months and Jose clearly now feels he’s up to speed. As good a prospect as Tanganga is, Davies is at the moment a way better defender.

Yea it could be that in this physical away game in poor conditions he thinks Dier could really help whereas in CL and against Chelsea we will need the more mobile passer type midfielders
