Money doesn’t guarantee trophies but it isn’t coincidence that Chelsea and Man City’s history of winning trophies has been completely rewritten for the better by actually spending money on top talented footballers.
Chelsea, summer 2017 spend 200 million, finish 5th.

I for one hope we lose to Leipzig as if we were to continue in the champions league our faint hopes of 4th place will disappear completely I feel bad about saying this but with just the league to worry about you never know .
The first time we qualified for the campions league only to have it taken away by Chelsea winning the thing .
We had no Europa football and knocked out early in both cups and could concentrate on the league matches .

But what players could we then attract?

Yeah I don’t think we can beat Leipzig and continue to push for top 4. Mourinho has said as much. There’s not enough fuel in the players. As much as I want us to win every game I just don’t know how we will win the next one let alone the one after that. I haven’t felt that way about us for a long time.

Off the pitch yes. On the pitch where it matters? No.

Like a Champions league final?
Challenging for the Premier League
Repeated Champions League Qualification?
Repeated Semi final and Final appearances?

We may have come up a little short and not quite crossed the line but to think that things havn’t improved on the field under Levy and Enic is ludicrous

I’m 34 years old and wasn’t alive to see our great teams of the 60,70,80’s. I faintly remember Gazza but it wasn’t until Klinsmann I was fully aware of Spurs. We were no way near the level we are now. That’s a good 23/24 years.

Hard to see anything other than a comprehensive humiliation

we employ a scouting system, Spurs are the 8th richest club in the world, Kane gets injured every season.
The PSG forward , who isn’t playing that’s plays for urgruay.

the one that wants to go to Spain? 1, that's most probably not even match fit if he can't get a game why take such a big risk on a player that's getting little playtime?

do you honestly believe he would have joined us and then struggled to get a game once Kane is back? the reason we never signed a striker in January is that they wanted 1 till the end of the season without an obligation, and all the selling clubs wanted to sell not loan. how do you know Jose wanted him anyway, or even if he would have settled.

I agree we need a striker 1 that has youth and can fit in on the opposite side to Son when both Kane and Son aren't injured. the way our luck is we would have signed him and due to lack of match fitness would have struggled and got injured himself. this isn't the french league, this is 10 times more competitive and physical

oddly enough, good and we players believe in there ability , he out of contract in the summer and yes,, plAyers play for cold hard cash, I’ve seen him play and like most signings it’s 50/50.
No cl will cost the club up to 70 million pounds
No europa 30 million, this is because they can’t find a forward in the whole world for 3 season.

Can we not just say a loss? How many times has this line been trotted out this season? The only time it was this bad was Bayern and no one saw it coming.

I believe we're going to lose by a heavy scoreline. The dam will break and we won't have the legs to hold it together. It's basically the biggest game in Leipzig's history and they'll be swarming all over us.

Well considering we don't play football, we have no midfield and we don't know how to string a pass together (all things that are now routinely trotted out on here) I would say it really doesn't matter, does it?

For the record, Liverpool were going to be all over us, we were going to get battered, same as pre. the City game to a lesser extent ...

Let's face it, even if we had gone through it'd have been the same all over again in the next round. People think Burnley are going to give us a tonking. We might as well not bother turning up at all, eh?

But this game we actually have to try and score a goal, which complicates our strategy.

Why would we bother with all the things I have mentioned taken from this very site from our own fans? We're not winning this game because we're rubbish an RB are going to be all over us. 8-0 incoming.

OK mate, just saying what I think will happen in the game. We're on our knees in total disarray, it's the biggest game in theirhistory, they're flying, they're better than us all over the pitch -- I just believe they're going to win comfortably. We don't need to make a philosophical drama about the nature of supporting a football team vs objective beliefs.

With such a fantastic stadium, training ground and business set up it is very difficult to criticise the clubs owners. However, the one major problems is Levy dealing with the transfers. His penny wise pound foolish attitude in this area has cost the clubs millions over the years, (Grealish being the latest example) and also his habit of bringing in players at the last minute meaning it takes half the season before they are fully integrated into the team or we are forced to settle for a third or forth choice which will no doubt happen again in the next window. This has undoubtedly cost the club in its finishing position thus negating any savings made, let alone the reduction in chances of actually winning anything. Regrettably we have now lost our best manager for many years and the experience of watching brilliant football because he was not properly backed. What the club should have done over the years is acted far quicker in bringing in top quality youngsters eg Maddison Grealish the palace full back to refresh the team and sold players like Vert Christian and Toby whilst you could nearly get top dollar to balance the books. Now we are saddled with a knackered squad and in my opinion a manager who is not going to improve matters and also serving up a lot of dross to watch.
The lesson to be learned is that a director of football must be appointed a budget set and Levy forced to butt out of transfers. Will it happen, probably not , will we be be watching great football again in the near future, probably not, will we win anything under the current manager probably not will Kane get fed up with it all probably!!

Yeah, you're probably right. When we get tonked you can always say I told you so.

Bloody ENIC are so shit against the high press - I've just realised which thread we've been chatting in.

For all the ENIC supporters when do you actually see us winning things under their stewardship? How many managers are you going to blame before realizing the real issue? Is there a time, say another 5 or 10 years where you say maybe they’re the ones failing?
I would think that if we haven't won anything in the next 10 years there will be enough disappointment amongst fans to put some pressure on them. But it's important to remember that a change of owner is no guarantee of success. Far from it. What then happens... the next owners get 20 years to win something then we boot them out? It's not how life works.

The notion of drawing a red line in a sporting scenario is too simplistic. And I think that goes for much of the criticism of ENIC - it's easy to empathise with but it takes too simplistic a view of life.

It's important to remember what their actual job is - not what some fans like to project. They need to protect the club financially first and foremost... pretty easy given the PL money etc. Then they need to make sure that fans have a good experience (outside of the football played) which I think they've made a few mistakes in. Then they need to provide the tools to make the playing team successful. In that order.

What they are not responsible for is the one-game performance of any particular player or the team as a whole. They are not directly responsible for taking penalties, or defending corners, or the team talk, or the tactics, or anything like that. The buck ultimately stops with them of course, but it's a laugh to see people saying "under-investment in the squad just cost us the FA cup". If people were to tot up the total transfer spend and wage spend on both teams last night I would imagine that the Spurs bill is far larger than the Norwich bill. Life just isn't that simple.

A lot of what we see in threads like this is tantamount to blaming Boris Johnson directly for the pothole at the end of your road, then blaming him for taking 4 weeks to have it fixed, then blaming him for the roadworks whilst it's fixed and then blaming him again because there's a pothole at the other end of the road which he should have prepared for. It sounds batshit crazy when you make an analogy of it, but by doing so we can remove the emotional tie to the club.

So back to your question - when do I see us winning things? Next year? Next 2 years? Next 5 years? I can see it happening at any of those times but I can also see it not happening. Life is not simple enough to make a prediction like that.

During the "ENIC years" I think we have been to 1 CL final, 3 EFL finals and 5 FA semis. That's not bad going and surely makes us the "best of the rest" in terms of teams outside the "big 5". ENIC cannot take credit for those performances... just like they cannot take blame for the losses. We should demand from them the tools to be able to compete for trophies and the above stats show that a lot of those tools are there. It's not been perfect and it's still a work in progress for sure, but anything else is unrealistic in my view because life simply isn't that simple.
