Why not sign Aarons + the lad from Atalanta? We need 2. If there isn’t a bidding war, we are a logical destination for Aarons but I remember reading he’s a Chelsea supporter and was hopeful they would bid for him. 5’10 isn’t particularly small for a full back, for comparison, Kyle Walker is 5’10 and TAA is 5’9. Aarons played very well against us in every match v Norwich and hopefully their relegation means a reasonable fee.

Because we probably don’t have enough money for 1 RB let alone 2

you don’t think we will raise any money through sales? I also have trouble believing there is 0 budget without sales. Maybe we can’t buy multiple £30-40m players but we will have some ability to spend. Rose on a permanent will raise £10m-£15m, KWP will either be part of PEH deal or raise another £10m. We still have naming rights and other sponsorships/commercial opportunities to raise income.

If possible I agree.

That way Jose can alternate the high full back role. At the moment every team is happy for us to have the ball on the left and will attack our right side to exploit Aurier's high position.

We need to be able to mix it up. Castagne on the left and Aarons on the right, shifting roles dependent on the way the game goes or the weakness of the opposition.

When we had Rose and Walker one of them would bomb forward and the other would get into the final third to support but we had Wanyama and Dier drop into defence to form a 3 and Dembele would soak the pressure off. I don't think we're fortunate to copy this any longer but upgrading our full backs so that they are able to attack and defend but recover well too will allow Ndombele to push on and do his work in the opposition half.

I'm in the Bogle camp but at least Aarons will have rapid recovery. I never felt that Walker was the best defender, yet he was always able to recover quickly. It makes a difference.

it’s funny that those seem to be the two different lines of opinion people have- some people really like Aarons and the others want Bogle.

Would rather just sign one actually top level RB.

Lots going around at the moment about which relegation teams' players we can poach - Aarons, Godfrey, Grealish, Cantwell etc - but I'm really not sure what the benefit of signing more of these squad is.

Yes, Liverpool signed Wijnaldum, Robertson, Shaqiri from these sort of teams, but they supplemented them with ready-made top players. They combined these astute signings with Allison, one of the best GKs in the world, and VVD, the most expensive defender in football history.

It's all well and good seeing the potential in a few of these players but there's a point where if all our signings are Aarons, Holjberg level players (aka squad players) then we risk regressing further into midtable imo.

Would much rather sign one quality DM and one quality RB this window and leave the other positions for later than buy 4/5 squad players. Our issue right now isn't a lack of squad players, our squad is basically made up of players who were rotation options a couple of years ago. It's a lack of proper proper talent (mainly in defence).

Hakimi was that guy, the elite right back at €45m. Unfortunately i don’t see us spending that sort of money for the next year on a player without at least one major sale. The hope is that we sign the next Andy Robertson or even Kyle Walker when we signed him at a very young age.

Yeah with COVID it's definitely all become a lot more difficult.

Just hope if we do have £50m to spend we actually use it to sign a player who improves us rather than buying a couple of risky players w/potential and hoping it comes off. Don't trust our scouting system to be able to consistently pick out the gems atm sadly.

Hakimi had an offer from City and Bayern at 60m but rejected them because he chose Conte's project, not sure why our fanbase thinks we should go for him especially when it looks like we will play next season 433 with two normal fullbacks - where Hakimi would look shit.

Like us supplementing Aarons/Hojbjerg with top players like Kane, Lo Celso, Son, Ndombele or Lloris.

No defenders there though - I'd be fine with bringing in Eze or something as I think our front four has enough quality but when it comes to the defence my point still stands imo. No truly quality players in our back four and no quality CDM in front of them. The Holjbergs and Aarons won't solve it imo.

Does anyone know much about Emerson from Barcelona/Betis?

Has been a few links for a while now.

Better option that Aarons?

Norwich vs Brighton showed the level of Aarons - below average.
Opposite RB Lamptey won the man of the match, while Aarons made 2 defensive mistakes in the build of the 2 goals conceded.

If we buy Aarons after a season full of such mistakes, I would never forgive our scouting teams. There are so many full backs in market - I hope we dont settle on a defensively error prone player

Wow, he made 2 defensive mistakes in the build of the 2 goals conceded and ending result of this match was 0:1.

And was he even in a fault of that one goal? Klose passes to Brighton player, Mooy has a lot of space because Lewis and he crosses the ball between Godfrey and Tettey.

Aarons vs Lamptey this match:
Tackles (won): 4(2) vs 2(1)
Interceptions: 1 vs 4
Clearences: 4 vs 4
Pressures(succeded): 10(4) vs 9(1)
Recoveries: 13 vs 10
Key passes: 1 v s 0
Passes(accuracy): 72(83,3%) vs 46(78.3%)
Dribbles attempted(succeded): 3(2) vs 6(5)
Fouls committed: 0 vs 3
Aarons won an aerial duels too.

Don't think he had a season full of mistakes, in this market they are not many better fullbacks better than him.
Aarons is heavily linked with us, Arsenal and I think Dortmund too, would say that these teams have better scouts than you ;)

I would ignore any Arsenal link, they've already bought the RB they can afford.

Castagne won't cost much.

Aarons is great, keep in mind we would not be buying the finished article but rather a 20 year old still developing. If we don't trust Aurier we should sell and get two in. Castagne won't cost anymore than what we would get for Aurier.

Hakimi is a good player, but might not be suited to the PL so much, he can be bullied. I mean we've torn him apart twice, one when he was playing for dortmund and once when playing for Real Madrid.

Forget Aarons, that Walker-Peters playing for Southampton is having a great game defending against City tonight. I wonder if we could get him in as our new RB? ;)
