Tottenham: Samuel Iling-Junior a transfer target as Juventus set £15.5m fee

The former Chelsea winger is ready to return to England

Tottenham are interested in bringing Juventus winger Samuel Iling-Junior back to England.
The London-born former Chelsea academy star is attracting interest from a host of clubs, after Juve made him available for £15.5million.

Iling-Junior will have just 18 months left on his deal come January and Juve would ideally like to keep the forward, who recently broke into England's Under-21s team, but will cash in with the 20-year-old keen to play more minutes.

Spurs are understood to be leading the race for Illing-Junior, seen as an opportunity signing rather than a priority one, with left-sided centre-backs like Jean-Clair Todibo, Marc Guehi and Lloyd Kelly at the top of the agenda.

However, they continue to look at players in all positions as an injury crisis threatens to undermine Ange Postecoglou’s fantastic start.

Illing-Junior left Chelsea for Juve in 2020 and has built an impressive CV, making 22 appearances at, arguably, Italy’s biggest club. Most of those senior minutes came last season, but Massimiliano Allegri is now back picking more experienced players so limiting Iling-Junior to four substitute appearances in this campaign.

To summarise -

Marseille are also interested and like his profile but find the €20 mil fee a little much. They haven’t made a bid yet but are considering it. We are also interested and considering a move for Jan. Juve looking for €20-25 mil

Could he be a like for like replacement for Bryan if we sell him back to Spain? But home grown and of increased stature?

I don’t know if anyone watched the Juve Vs Roma game the other day but he came on at WB again in the last 16 and was excellent defensively. If there is any truth in our interests, as I’ve mentioned before, i really think he’d be great in the Udogie role. Obv not a priority this window but come summer could be a good move. Chiesa also looked excellent when he came on, I do wonder what they are going to do about his contract.

Buying a raw young LWB prospect would be perfect squad managent - more for summer, but Perisic being unexpectedly done makes it more plausible for now.

(Im assuming here that Sessegnon is basically cooked, sorry Ryan but, yaknow)

Davies has 1.5 years left and being able to fit both CB and LB means we can be more risky with a backup at left fullback, and can select someone with a more attacking profile than would otherwise be prudent.

Ali Gold says we were likely scouting him last month as well as big Dragusin.

"As well as the Romanian, the duo would have been looking at, among others, 20-year-old Islington-born winger Samuel Iling-Junior, who came off the bench in the second half, and has been of interest to Tottenham in previous transfer windows.'

Mainly interested in whether he can be an understudy at full back. Which I don't really have enough knowledge of the player to know lol

This one could be interesting.

Hojbjerg swap for Iling-Junior, with a view to converting him into the Udogie role. Depth there is a concern for me as I think Davies suits CB more these days.

Then replace Hojbjerg with someone like Gallagher.

Bring in Dragusin now and Jota on loan. That would be a stonking January.

I think that makes sense, but I'd argue we may see the Ederson links pick up a bit if Hojbjerg goes to Juve. I just don't see Gallagher being a real possibility, and given Bentancur's versatility, and Bissouma going away for a bit (and his "discipline issues"), I think a true 6 like Ederson probably makes a lot of sense.

We've been left with Reguilon again and Sessegnon still on the books. Hard to see us bringing in a LB at this juncture.

Italian clubs are broke and can't see any of them having cash required to buy Hojberg especially in January. Add to that the fact that foreign players will no longer get the tax breaks they once did (the Ronaldo tax break) they now aren't as competitive salary wise either which will really hinder them trying to buy premier league players.
While I hope I'm wrong it's just so difficult to see them having the financials to do such a deal.

I can certainly see Juve going for PEH on loan but with an option not obligation. Like you say, committing to an obligation i think is too much of an ask for them. I guess the question is if we soften to the idea of an option or if Juve get creative by offering players we like as payment, assuming there are some.

Maybe Juve have a sell on clause for Dragusin, that may release a bit of cash and maybe we can do a swap with this guy or even Chiesa.

Just watching the highlights of Juve v Roma on TNT3. He came on as a sub in their 1-0 win. Replaced Kostic

Was involved (assist) in second goal which was disallowed but good footwork. Seemed to have good pace to get forward and into the box during attacks.

I for one will be deeply disappointed if, just prior to making the sub, Allegri hasn't indicated his decision by donning a pair of denim dungarees and singing 'Come On Iling'. Frankly, if I were Ange, I'd sign him just for that opportunity alone.
