This guy is about to move to the Athletic - has Ornstein covered this transfer at all so far?
Not sure, he has good contacts at all clubs. Dunno if you're referring to Ornstein in the first part of your post but he moved to the Athletic ages ago.

He really isn’t. He’s just another Athletic journo who purports to be high brow but is in actuality just as uninformed and lacking in individual thought as all the other muppets. Basically a fancy Paul Jiggins or Neil Ashton.
Nah.

It's not just Dan Sheldon reporting that it isn't close. BBC journalist Adam Blackmore, who does radio commentary for Southampton matches and was called "indisputably the one journalist closest to the club" by a Saints supporter on Reddit is saying the same thing:

So it seems clear that Southampton have briefed their journalists that our bid is not enough. I guess we'll see in the coming days if it's just bluster.

Reminds me of the Bergwijn deal where everyone was reporting it was done except their close knit reporters.

Having watched a 10 minute YouTube compilation of this guy I think Sissoko has much more to worry about than Winks. Stylistically he's nothing like Winks. Seems more of a high-intensity box to box player with decent technical ability. I could definitely see him relegating Sissoko to more of a squad player and playing alongside Lo Celso and/or Winks/Ndombele.

We really need to play someone who can create chances alongside Lo Celso & PEH. The hope is that its Ndombele but won't be surprised at all if its Lo Celso & PEH in a double pivot and Dele back in the #10 spot.

Nope, the other bloke who for the most part has been publishing shite since he went hard with his original story. Another quality journo to be added to the roster at the Athletic.

He'll fit in at the Athletic then in terms of transfer news. They are fucking terrible. The guy who covers us never gets a transfer target right.

Coutinho earns £240,000 a week and is 28 y/o.

If we buy:
- the fee will be huge
- the wages will be huge
- the resale value will be small

If we loan:
- the loan fee will be large
- the wages will be huge
- their will be no resale value

This is not how DL does business.

PEH cost buttons in football terms and is 24.

That's the type of deal to expect.

That's one of the reasons we don't win shit, cause we always looking to the future and not at the present. The mentality of the club is a problem.

Why is this a thing? If the deal genuinely is in the late stages why would the journos closest to the club be briefed to say it's not close to happening? The report will have no effect on the deal itself (as that's obviously all going on behind the scenes) so is it just to save a bit of face with the fans? Even that seems pointless to me as the fans will still feel the same way regardless when the deal goes through. Or could it just be bad/late information?

Just seems odd when practically all the broadsheets, Reuters and Sky are saying one thing to have local reporters saying the opposite...

I have no idea, the over the top secrecy in regards to transfers is odd to me when it compares to American Sports reporting.

The noises coming from Southampton's reporters about Hojbjerg versus the broad-based journalists like Fabrizio Romano sound a bit like how our club's reporters are briefing the Ndombele situation, tbh..

Not saying either situation is correct or incorrect, but it puts things into a bit of perspective.

The blokes who cover us seem like decent guys, but whenever I listen to their Spurs podcast they never strike me as especially insightful and, while they clearly have their sources, they don't seem to be that great. It feels like I'm just listening to some eloquent fans chatting about Spurs rather than journalists. I actually found the insights and opinions of the old Cock On Ball podcast much more engaging and original (which really was just 2 eloquent fans chatting).

Reminds me more of Khedira than a pure holding midfielder. He's even played as the most advanced midfielder for Southampton.

He doesn't score much but I'm sure I've read on here that he's had far more shots on goal than Winks, despite ostensibly being So'ton's deepest midfielder most of the time. Not sure if that says more about him or Winks tbh.
