My original point, before you started moaning that we were underplaying Doherty's signing, was about our transfer strategy.

Long term we are not going to be consistently signing 28 year olds with no room to improve. That is what I am on about. A club like ours have to sign players with potential to have a chance of having world class performers. A team full of 28 year olds signed from mid table clubs will quickly see us slip into mediocrity.

Nobody said anything about JUST signing 28 year olds who had no room to improve lol.

Look, we're about building a side now to win things. We already have lots of younger players with potential around the squad but we're focusing on the here and now, signing real quality with the know how to perform at a certain level.

That doesn't mean we won't continue to sign younger players with huge potential

Would of thought that was obvious.

Re: deleting the Arsenal tweets... I wonder how it came about.

Did Spurs know about it and insist on him deleting them as a part of the contract? or did he bring it up and voluntarily do it and they spun it into a funny post?
This isn’t something most parties will care about.. it’s a blinkered, tribal fan thing. No way it would have got anywhere near a contract clause!

This is what happens when you just pick up on one point and don't follow the whole conversation.

I have never said we won't continue buying young players with potential lol

My original conversation was pointing out that the reason we have signed players relatively quickly and easily this transfer window is because they are cheap and we faced no competition from elite clubs. I said this is great for areas in the squad we need to fill now but not an approach we should follow long term because we also need younger higher potential players. Which someone disagreed with.

Anyway, I'm done going round in circles. Doherty is a good signing. That is something we can both agree on.

Always loved Scott Parker lol.

None of those you mentioned are specialist RB’s, they might be able to do a job for a game or two but wouldn’t want any in the team for a prolonged period of time.
Wouldn't want Aurier in the team for a prolonged period either. That's why we've bought another RB :)

I agree. And we did need a process of rounding off the squad with ‘good solid pros’. However to really maintain our level or push on long term we will always need signings like Sessegnon, NDombele, Lo Celso, Alli etc... young but with huge potential to be world class.
I agree completely. If we can get those lot playing anywhere near their potential then we are looking extremely strong.

Great video, but Levy needs to sack someone over the fitment of either the switch or the fire alarm button or whatever it is :ROFLMAO:

He GENUINELY seems exited to be here. It's great. I love his enthusiasm. Can't wait to see him in action.
This is what happens when you bring in new players. That positivity spreads amongst those already here.
Similarly bringing in nobody has the opposite effect imo. Just my onion of course before anyone starts crying.

Can only speak for myself, but I think it's the same with any job and even school really.

Things can get stale and fresh faces helps lift the mood.

Love signing solid, down to earth people like this. The work ethic and joy at being at Spurs is clear from the video - rather this than expensive prima donnas that think they're doing us a favour.

Yea but a healthy mix is good. Keep signing the likes of Sessengon, Clarke etc to be stars in a few years time but its also important to sign some players like Doherty who are in their prime and ready to go as if we just keep signing younger players and waiting for them to become top class then its really difficult to win things with a team full of potential but not enough ready performers now.

MD and PEH are brilliant astute signings ready to go.
The tricky part is balancing the playing time. If players like Sessegnon and Gedson don't get a decent run of games, they won't fulfil their potential and we'll need to sign another "experienced" player slightly further down the line, to compensate for the young player still not being ready and the starting player declining / retiring.

Chelsea arguably failed badly at balancing this, with quality players like De Bruyne, Salah and Matic (first time around) having to move on to play and develop. (I'm not using Chelsea as an example because of the Mourinho connection - it's worth noting that he only sold one of those players and resigned another...twice.)

From what I've seen of Doherty (I'll admit that's mostly highlights), he appears to be far more deliberate with the placement of his crosses than our other fullbacks, with a decent awareness of runs being made / about to be made. He also appears to be quite good in transition.

Agree this is why having lots of europa league games I think is actually a good thing for us

Still can’t believe this got done for less than 15 million- he’s been one of the more impressive fullbacks in the PL for the last two years, has homegrown status and in the prime of his footballing career. Incredible value

Can anyone tell me if it's pronounced Dock-erty or Doe-erty? It would be nice to know one way or the other.
