I think people forget he's also only 23. It clicks for different people at different ages. Some click early and understand the work that needs to be done, some mature later and don't "Get it" until they're older. Some never do get it. I reckon we'd regret it if we sold now, but who knows.

As it mentioned in the same article, Lo Celso was almost seen as not needed, and now he's one of the main players. Just takes time for some to adjust.

I wouldnt be to upset if we sold him...... he shows flashes of what he can do, hes a good ball carrier (something weve missed) but he does so well up until that final ball and either misses the pass or simply runs into trouble and gets dispossessed... Seen it so many times with him, very frustrating

His final ball is one of his strengths imo.

Same with Davinson imo. People complain about us not investing at the right time, and yet our two most expensive signings could have easily been out-performed in the crucial time period by much cheaper, less exotic ones who were ready to go.
Paying £40-50m for 'potential' makes you wonder sometimes how the hell they're going to get back to that value, never mind beyond it. As much as clubs are regularly said to be valuing players at that cost, there are very few who actually pay it.
We've been down that road with players who have limited ceilings and we found it difficult to move them on in turn restricting future recruitments.

I fully understood Poch approach in buying first choice players with massive potential...it absolutely made sense we had clear warning the rebuild would be painful and players needed to be moulded and coached for Tottenham 2.0 unfortunately time and results went against him.

I also think his problem was failing to observe that a team of young players can get you higher up the table (like Spurs and Southampton) but will struggle to take that final step. I think to win titles you eventually need older heads (e.g. the likes of Gallas) and that is inevitably what we missed. (insert the 'you dont win with kids' thing here)

I was guilty of making judgements based on that too. You also watch a game where you’re watching the overall game and not focusing in on him. He’ll do something fantastic and you’ll think wow he looks great, not noticing two minutes earlier he completely gave up trying to track an opposing player. I’d love to see our scouting reports on him.
He’s definitely one of the most complex footballers to judge and I can see why we signed him for sure. However to pay that much for him and this big a salary if they saw major flaws to his game seems insane to me.
Ndombele is a Bugatti baller he is the fabric of a Tottenham player however we need to sort out the track and patch the many pot holes.
If people can remember back to how Eriksen started off his career at Tottenham he was labelled lazy weak blah blah blah then the penny dropped.

First midfield change should be to sell Sissoko and buy Sangare esp if he’s going for so little. Levy would even make a profit, great bit of business.

I mentioned it before but as part of another comment, if Ndombele is feeling isolated, dejected, struggling settling in etc. then selling Sissoko and/or Serge isn't going to help the situation, based on the footage I've seen (documentary, training clips, celebrations etc.) they seem to be his closest mates at the club. Not suggesting at all that we keep players just to make him happy but if he is struggling now and we get rid of 2 French speaking buddies that he hangs out with then it's going to make it even worse.

All speculation of course but worth considering

Pierre Hojbjerg speaks french for what it’s worth. Though I agree having Sissoko around will help N’Dombele.

Whilst that’s true, and quite possibly a problem going forward, it doesn’t account for the full calendar year he’s had to integrate with the rest of the squad (inc certain other French -speaking players?).
It does point to potentially the crux of the matter- something going on behind the scenes that can’t be accounted for on the pitch - maybe homesickness?
And maybe that’s why he was identified as someone who might need some time to settle in. Maybe lockdown has had a big impact on that. Who’s to say?

God I’d love it if he came good at spurs. Turning out of a tight press and playing a defence splitting ball. That’s what he can do, I’d say no one else in the squad can do that. Probably only Pogba in the PL can do that.
However, if after a year it’s mutually agreed by him and Jose that it’s not working, it’s wise to get the maximum return on the investment. That’s just good sense.
Finally, I don’t think anyone can be too upset at Ndombele receiving criticism after such a wide range of negative ITK. If it came from one post/er, that would be easy to dismiss. To hear it from several sources kind of makes it feel more valid- just like if we got a range of info about an incoming transfer.
Let’s just hope whatever the club make turns out to be the right one

That would be all well and good but we signed him for 65mil.

Risky business paying top dollar for potential Sanchez, Foyth,Ndombele, Sessegnon, GLC and the likes that are unproven in the premiership of the 5 only GLC has improved his stock,
On the other side of the coin there are like likes of modric, Lennon and Bale.
I suppose it down to your scouts and talent spotters but it was certainly a better risk when the fees were not so ridiculous

Sorry to go back so far into this thread, but 40 mil for potential, you have to remember just how out of hand the transfers were getting at the time of these, it was starting to look like the 40-50 was the new 20, teams like PSG/Man City/Man U/Barca/Chelsea have all started to pay insane amount of money on transfers so teams started holding out for one of them to come in, I thought Covid would help mitigate that but now no one really is buying up players (other than chelsea) since it seems like teams still want that pre covid pricing like 50 mil more chillwell, Don't get me wrong he is great but 50 mil good?

Even in old money, that's £80m for Chillwell and Drinkwater.

You'd be forgiven for thinking Chelsea's scouts had simply handed in a bottle of Evian instead of their transfer targets

Wonder if Jose will have an interview with him on the Amazon documentary and accuse him of being lazy?
