I still never understood why he was so desperate to leave in the first place. Him and kane seemed to have been made for each other both on and off the pitch.

This is what's frustrating. There are about 10 other clubs in world football that are on a equal or higher level and two of those we don't sell too. Most people who play here, this is gong to be the highlight of their career

He made his bed, let him lie in it. It was clear he played well within himself in that last year or so of his contract with his eyes on a big move, so much so he actually played his way out of a big move (especially his ‘performance’ in the CL final) and ended up at Inter in what was a sideways move at best

We do need creativity, but we also need players that are hungry and have a desire to be here

Some players want a new challenge & a change of scenery. Eriksen was one of them.
I think CE going was entirely understandable and laudable. Good for him. Not happy about how it ended but fundamentally his desire to leave after many years giving his all is totally understandable. That’s modern football and how it works.

I completely understand why he left, he was with us for a long time and it just got stale for him, I think if he realized the grass isn't always greener and came back with a fire under his ass to work hard and pull the strings again I'm all for it but I think he's just going to stay there and slowly rundown his contract and be SOL when a bigger move never happens again

As much as I’d find it endlessly hilarious for Eriksen to return 6 months after he got his “change of scenery” after all his sulking, I don’t think he’s really what we need or fits the seemingly more combative style Mourinho wants us to play.

On a wider level, I think old school playmaking #10s like Eriksen are largely on the way out and being replaced by more all action midfielders like at Liverpool, City, Madrid, Bayern. Is there a a top team left that plays a traditional #10? I think the style of the game has passed Eriksen by a bit and that’s why he struggled at the end of his time with us in addition to being progressively disinterested.

We can debate his determination for the cause towards the end long into the night but one thing that rarely gets mentioned which also ties into his waning performances;

His form for two years has been well below his best. My gut feeling is, he will never get back to that level.

No way Jose!!

This 'crap for 2 years' nonsense has been spouted a few times on here. He wasn't great in 2019. He certainly wasn't poor in 2018. I remember him being absolutely outstanding in the 6-2 win at Everton in December 2018 and in season 2018/19 scored 8 goals and got 17 assists. Some drop off that. 25 goal involvements.

Like the rest of the team, his form dipped in early 2019 and that summer he made it clear he wanted to leave and it understandably dropped off. He only started 12 games out of 30.

Agree. The whole team were in a bad place resulting in the coach being sacked.
Eriksen sat through 2 transfer windows where no players were brought in and saw an entire defence being left to its final year of their contracts.
I'd have fked off as well.

I do t want him back, and I agree with your overall sentiment, but I think the different between their success with us probably plays a part in the different treatment they get.

I personally think we should stay far away, we should try to train Dele, Ndombele, Lo Celso and Bergwijn into maximising their potential.

I agree, but for me, that is exactly why I was pissed off with Eriksen and precisely the reason why I’m cutting Ndombele some slack so I personally don’t get that logic, though I don’t dispute that is how a lot of people are rationalising it.

During Eriksens last 2 seasons with us we had 4 amazing seasons to refer to prior to that which made us realise he was cruising and just going through the motions until he left. I don’t really have a massive problem with it (Poch should of cut him out a lot more than he did) and I think Eriksens lack of motivation on the pitch was, largely, subconscious bit still.

Ndombele is young, no EPL experience, new language, new country, no minutes to build momentum but yet gets absolutely slated and a lot of it personal as well. Don’t get me wrong if he comes out like Eriksen did saying he wants out and he carries on like he is i’ll want him gone to but I am aware of no such comments and the rest about his attitude or laziness is just pure speculation.

He’s not coming back anyway and I wouldn’t want him too. I’d honestly rather he went to a rival.

I don't think it would be a good idea but if Mourinho wanted him then fine, but I'd be surprised if he did want him.

What would be a disaster if Levy was pushing for it against Mourinho's wishes but they appear to be working well together and I'd be very surprised if we're as interested as Dragon's info is suggesting.
