Everton's owners have serious ambitions. Ours don't. Biggest difference right there.

We'll see come deadline day based on what we're hearing. I hope you're wrong but we have heard all the promising stuff before.

Nothing but if I was him and I look around the dressing room I am not sure I would give a fuck either. Instead of building a team that can help him compete for trophies we have slide back to being no better than mid table.
Last I checked he was supposed to be the leader. I have never seen him even remotely be one. The job of Tottenham is not to get Kane trophies. The job of Kane is to get Tottenham ones, though.

A few points:
Disappointing that like too many times under Poch we were a team of one half. We were the more dangerous going forward in the first half (should really of scored one - inexplicable why Son didn’t play Kane in) but hardly turned up in the second half. You can’t play for only half a game and expect to win.

For a team playing on the counter attack our build up play is far too slow.

There was a lack of a coordinated press which allowedEverton to play out back to front too easily.

Wrong substitution at HT. If Dele is off ( didn’t think he played well) he should half brought on NDombele. Son was the most dangerous forward in 1st half wide left but after the substitutions he was neutered playing inside alongside Kane.

Beaten by a great free kick. Very difficult to defend against but I’m not a fan of defending free kicks in that position so high up as it gives the attackers too much space to run unto and takes the GK out of it completely.

Interesting to read the half time comments on here. First game of the season and the anti Winks, Davies and Lucas bozos we’re out in force

i would take it and one cup lmao. we arn't making the top 4.. and europa league is not that big a deal to me.. so finishing 5-6th and 0 cups i would take finishing 10th and a league cup over it.
Yea same. But hoping if we can make 3 more signings then we can still do well in the league.

bit concerned about Jose’s anti ball but Everton are now a good team that wasn’t ever going to be easy and I think our team is still short in attacking quality. Lucas does nothing game after game, dele hasn’t hit his old form and we have no creativity in CM. Need lo celso back, need ndomble fit and firing and need to sign another winger who is an upgrade on Lucas.

Bale a ST and CB and we are a different team. Just a striker and I still think we will struggle to come top 6.

I was aware us losing was a possibility, I thoughts perhaps a moment of magis from James might happen. But I was not expecting us to lose in this manner: by playing lethargic, passionless football.

It's not the result, it's the performance that has got me very, very worried.

Well folks, last season we had a good look at the type of football that awaited us for this season. We have seen it on display again today, if your happy with this then good luck to you, but for the rest of us there needs to be only one change and hopefully that change will come. Soon.

The first sub was bad, should have been Ndombele, Lamela would have been able to come on later to play between the lines.

The team can't function unless there is a player (preferably two) in midfield that wants to be progressive with the ball however the movement upfront is non existent.

Too many players lack basic awareness (poor positioning etc), don't forget about the patented slow passes all over the pitch.

Moura used to be wide player but Spurs have turned into some kind of inverted nothing, his positioning is bad, he doesn't run at the full back, he doesn't create space for the overlap and his first touch is...

Winks' awareness of what's ahead of him is so bad and his passing is ugh, those feels again

Kane isn't fully fit and wasn't a threat all game.

Toby's reading of the game has got gotten worse.

Dier was poor.

Davies is just meh and isn't a threat at all.

Hoiberg was in position a lot but he must play with a passer.

It would be major progress if half the starting lineup had a good first touch

What position was that? Because he wasn't playing as a holding midfielder. Winks was playing that role.

Good post.

wasn’t dele injured? Otherwise was an odd sub.

We're not working as a team so we should start looking at which players can link up properly and build the side around those little partnerships. Lo Celso and Lamela. Kane and Docherty (apparently). Maybe Hojberg winning ball and giving it straight to Ndombele to ping can work.

Docherty Dier Alderweireld Davies
Ndombele Hojberg
Lamela Lo Celso Son
Kane

Grealish would be good but why would he come here? He is a Villa fan and won’t be rushed to joining this debacle; if he wants to leave in January or the summer he’ll have better places teams than us interested.

Because we've still got a huge amount to offer if we can acquire the types of players we desperately need.

Remember the debate and exposure you showed me of how poor we are in the window when it comes to getting players in ready for the starts of seasons ... So true.

Hardly. He should be leading from the front. He never challenged any balls going towards him and was walking around when he was within pressing distance of the ball. His attitude and play was shit and it’s annoying me that people are using this game as a reason for him to go and knock on Levy’s door asking to go.
Kane cant get near anyone because our system of pressing is utter shite.

It's a half arsed attempt at pressing whilst worrying too much about over committing players.

See I didn't mind this first half because there was a clear pattern of play and a team that pretty much knew their roles.

Second half went to complete and utter shit the minute we made the change and in doing so, we ceded the game to Everton who didn't have to particularly work hard to secure their first away win at a top 6 side in 13 years!

It's one thing not reacting quickly enough to opposition changes but when we effectively committed tactical and personnel hari kari then we as a team and absolutely Mourinho deserves all the criticism they get!
The team were very poor second half but you're right that change from Jose was poor and handed Everton the game.

Alli needed to get in the game more but we were keeping Everton on their toes and restricting them to pot shots. That was because of the system, so Jose got the start right.

I don't know what his thinking was, maybe he wanted more runs from deep and a more defensive shape in midfield. However it had the reverse effect and where Everton had been struggling to break our lines, they were now 1 or two passes from getting behind.

The problem was doubled because whilst Alli had been poor, we didn't have any player getting in the space between the lines. That made it comfortable for Everton who could take more risks and throw more men forward.

Hopefully Jose realised this and doesn't try to change shape that way again.

If he wasn't happy with Dele he should have just switched him for Lamela or Bergwijn and kept the shape.

This game has shown how important it is to get the players needed in key positions before the start of the season. I get that it's not as easy as I may think but how could teams like Everton and Leicester get their key targets in before the start of the season.
