The difference between our performance and Arsenal's was unbelievable. We look like weve still got the same 11 players from 5 years ago. Need some serious signings to lift the team. Everton totally different side with whole new midfield.

Remember the debate and exposure you showed me of how poor we are in the window when it comes to getting players in ready for the starts of seasons ... So true.

Yeah I was literally going to post to similar effect as to why I'm not downbeat on this being an indicator of our season, though you pumping my ego is greatly appreciated.

Mourinho just said that they were pressing high so there was lots of space between their midfield and defence. And that’s why he took Alli off for Sissoko..? That makes no fucking sense.

Sissoko can run with the ball. What makes no sense is that Sissoko didn't come into the centre of midfield and played on the right.

Dreadful opening day. Hopefully we'll kick on and get better. The problem is I look at the players and they're the same players that haven't been good for two seasons now and none of the new signings over the last two years have demonstrated that they're the same level of quality that we were at three years ago. And unpopular opinion, that includes Lo Celso.

1. Sissoko

2. Winks

3. Dele

4. Lamela (injured prone, not good enough to play wing or number 10)

5. Davies

These five players are liability and will always remain that ... As long as they are playing in the main 11 week in week out, we will be playing like that and occasionally we will win because of individual brilliance of kane and son ... Any competent club who has ambition should have sold one of dele and lamela already, and brought someone like willian for free... I would add moura in there too, but I think he would be a good squad player and he offers pace which we lack, and suit the team in second half against tired legs ...

They are by far not the only ones but Winks and Moura are not good enough to be regular starters for us if we want to progress and win silverware.

K'inell that was bad.

I wanted Jose and wont knee jerk. I don't care if we win playing crap. But when we lose playing that shit its hard to take.

We never once took the game to them

I didn't see it listened on the radio but it seemed to me that Everton had Allan to break it up and give it to Rodriguez to make the passes to set the forwards off and Doucoure up and down supporting both of them and linking with the forwards, that was their midfield. I'm really not sure we have that blend.

Well, I was badly wrong, and it seems this match highlights it to a degree for us. I gotta be honest, I feel pretty gloomy on that outing by us - Mourinho and the players need to figure out some shit in the next few days.

i'd swap managers with them in a heartbeat, considering how long there midfielders have been there they looked organised, played some nice football and showed way more desire and belief than our shower. either our squad is championship standard or we simple lack a manager capable of setting them up to excel, I don't buy the Mourinho's a winner, hes past it, him and his dated ideas on football.
It's funny you say that cause the Bayern players did not take to Ancelotti's methods and felt they were dated compared to Pep.

In Jose's defence, he was without Lo Celso, a player who was key to our game against them last time. Also if Ndombele had been half the player we thought we were buying then Jose would have at least had more quality available instead of Sissoko and Winks

We have too many players that are now in decline from when they were at their best. Levy's failure to plan ahead of this decline has left us here.
Got arrogant based on a manager who had nearly every player performing at their absolute maximum.

Then believed the hype from a silken- tongued new boy about how they could get more out of them. He was duped in a similar way by Tim Sherwood ffs, so he never stood a chance resisting Mourinho. But when you see how far some of our mainstays have dropped, or how backup players have become nailed on starters, it's frightening.

We're not working as a team so we should start looking at which players can link up properly and build the side around those little partnerships. Lo Celso and Lamela. Kane and Docherty (apparently). Maybe Hojberg winning ball and giving it straight to Ndombele to ping can work.

Docherty Dier Alderweireld Davies
Ndombele Hojberg
Lamela Lo Celso Son
Kane
Ndombele cannot be picked there he has no stamina and will put the team under pressure repeatedly when he inevitably gives the ball away and doesn’t have the energy or desire to get it back. I wish it were different but surely he can only play in a free role around Kane where it is less risky and let others do the work for him.
