That was a total shambles. Embarrassingly limp and clueless response after we went behind.

New season optimism squashed after one game.

It's funny you say that cause the Bayern players did not take to Ancelotti's methods and felt they were dated compared to Pep.

In Jose's defence, he was without Lo Celso, a player who was key to our game against them last time. Also if Ndombele had been half the player we thought we were buying then Jose would have at least had more quality available instead of Sissoko and Winks
we simply can't rely on one player in lo celso, not like it would have come as a shock to Mourinho that he wasn't going to be available, again with n'dombele hes had plenty of time to look at him. if he cant see this side is devoid of any creative players or simply midfielders with any ability then he blind, he would have know weeks ago what options he was going to have for the game and yet here we are looking like we have gone into the game without any sort of tactics.

It's one fucking game, 1 game, when did we turn into this fucking shit show of entitled knobs. I sure as shit wasn't happy with the performance but ffs grow some balls.

We were very fortunate to lose 1-0. No desire or intensity, on the opening day of the season!

United have a plethora of midfielders, they won't be going for Grealish.
Grealish is an AM who usually plays off the left and Utd are still looking at AMs in Sancho and (reportedly) Bale so it’s not unlikely that if a team agreed terms with AV, they would come in. Unfortunately, as far as I can see we haven’t had any ITK that we are even considering Grealish as an option (or any other AM).

I know this game was poor, there's no getting away from that but we do have the tools within the squad to fix these issues and shouldn't write off our season based on this one game. We're notoriously poor at the start of nearly every season (which is something the club needs to analyse greatly).

We had a good defensive shape today in the first half, Doherty and Hojbjerg did actually provide some solidity. What we lacked was the connection from midfield to attack. I wasn't shocked to see Dele not come out for the 2nd half, I don't think he was any worse than anybody else out there but I knew Jose wouldn't risk Ndombele on for Winks but I was surprised that Lamela wasn't the chosen one, he can link midfield to attack and play the 1-2's and also can add a lot of intensity which we lacked.

I think if we look at going forward and we consider that Lo Celso will be back, Lamela can come in, hopefully Ndombele can get up to speed and add the creativity from deeper we can fix by far the biggest issue of our game today.

What concerns me is our defence. Dier has been touted as the big solution but again he fails to attack the ball, Alderweireld was very poor today and looked 2 yards behind the game. We need Sanchez to kick on because he can provide what we lack and is a possible solution. If I'm Jose I'd personally be more desperate for Reguilion than Davies so we have a more balanced fullback system both in defence and attack.

Bringing on Sissoko really ruined our shape and I thought the logical solution was going to be because we were bringing on Ndombele to make it 4-3-3 and add Sissoko to cover defensively. What we saw was akin to the Poch era where we lose all shape chasing a game we're losing.

The thing is though, all the defensive positives you point out, we evident after the post covid restart.

Its not one fucking game though is it! We have seen more of these atrocious performances under Jose than we have seen positive performances!

Ndombele cannot be picked there he has no stamina and will put the team under pressure repeatedly when he inevitably gives the ball away and doesn’t have the energy or desire to get it back. I wish it were different but surely he can only play in a free role around Kane where it is less risky and let others do the work for him.

So lets play him there for a bit to get him up to speed. Play Lo Celso deeper.

Basically I think, and don't hate me for using this term but, there is a herd immunity to pass and move (forwards) football in the side. That can only be overcome by stuffing the team with what creative players we have. We might become defensively a little more vulnerable but we're not a world class defensive unit either. We're not a team built on an immense defensive foundation like Poch's successful teams. We have to accept that. We need to move on and look for the qualities we do have, some top class attacking players. Focus on getting the best out of them. Lets not not try obsess over defensive alchemy.

Most worrying thing about the game was Hojbjerg's performance.
He was fine in the first half. He was engaging Everton as they approached and was pressing in good areas.

The system change seemed to effect everyone in the second half and I think Hojbjerg got caught in trying to roam around and force something which meant he started to become ill disciplined.

He's not going to be the best passer in our team, he'll look to break up play and play quick short passes.

But ultimately if you don't have a better box to box or CM partner who can move the ball you are going to struggle.

Sissoko Winks & Hojbjerg were all over the place second half, that was part system and part lack of quality. I wouldn't put that on him.

The Sissoko sub at half time was a total mind fuck at the time and proved to be a pivotal moment
I assume it was to thicken up the midfield and take control but it didn’t work and we then lurched from one formation to the next desperately looking for something to work. Nothing did. Our midfield was woeful, we couldn’t string 4 passes together but there is also such poor movement ahead from Kane and Son.

It is one game this season, last season he improved our league position massively while having to deal with horrendous injuries. I'm not happy with the performance but the level of hyperbole on here is disgusting, its like you have never seen a football match before.

It isn't one game. It's just about every game since Mourinho arrived. Some results have been good but the performances generally haven't. Yes, his time here has been disjointed by covid-19, but Mourinho has had ample time to give us at least the basis of a way to play. We don't have it. We use a low block and we hit it long for the fast front men. Any organised team with a half-decent coach will see that, prepare for it and nullify it. Which is what Ancelotti and Everton did today.

We are passive and we are predictable. We are as bad today as we were in the last days of Poch and we show no signs of getting any better..

He's a world class striker, not a holding midfielder. He shouldn't be charging around the pitch making challenges, if he is then something has gone badly wrong with how we are playing.
Sorry. I love Kane, but he's not above criticism. Kane from 2 and 3 years ago, made things happen. When he got on the ball, it was exciting to see what he would do with it. If he wasn't getting the supply, he went looking for it. He seems less inclined to do that these days.

Yep,,,the changing formation stifled things for sure. Game won and lost midfield
