Said at HT Mourinho had to change it, and get a reaction or it would be worrying.

Huge kudos to him.

Agree Lamela always has fight and energy and brings something to the team. Actually it is just when he holds on to the ball too long and loses his possession that is frustrating. If he could cut that out, he would be challenging first 11.

I thought tanguy played well i would of rather winks went off for lo celso.

I agree and am quitely hoping that JM sees this as well.

On Thursday, TN only played 30 mins, while GLC played the full 90, so it made sense that Tanguy started as he was the fresher of the 2. However, going by Jose's comments earlier, he is clearly not fit to play both halves so the substitution was not a matter of if but when.

That said, we simply cannot play Hojbjerg with either Winks or Sissoko. Besides Hojbjerg, neither of the other 2 are progressive with the ball and invite pressure. We know that PEH is the only proper DM we have, but he's not great on the ball, rather off it. So he needs to have 2 other midfielders that do the job of carrying the ball forward. Having only one of GLC or TN puts a lot of pressure on them and makes it easy for other teams to target them collectively.

Personally I'd be happy if we sold Sissoko and replaced him another midfielder in the mold of Wijnaldum that gives us a physical alternative to him. Can't see us selling Winks as he fills a valuable HG spot.

Lamela is the perfect sub for us.

Lucas lack of threat in any way, shape or form is worrying me. He just seems to stay out too wide and not really do much other than track back.

I'd love to see PEH actually get the DM role where he can just sit in front of the CBs and protect (instead of Winks who seems to be playing it). Winks for all his running, is just very meh at most things and offers zero defensively, he has no positional awareness to detect upcoming danger and is too weak. I don't mind him being a squad player. But i'd much rather PEH even though he's not a pure DM, playing that role, Lo Celso the link and Ndombele the creater. With our options that's the best we have, Sangare would be an astute signing and cheap.

Priorities are a back up striker and world class CB. Wout Weghorst and Dias would be sensational.

I’ll put my hands up and admit I was wrong at half time. I criticized Mourinho and the lack of a plan. Turns out I was just too blond to see the plan. Once Kane started dropping that little bit deeper, the flood gates opened at the back. Sitting deep and inviting them to press up so Son could get in behind was a good tactical set up. I still think we need to keep the ball more to lessen how much defending out defense has to do, but it worked like a charm once Sonny calibrated his runs to their high line.

Think a lot of fans didnt like my opinion lol. I like winks but i felt ndombele played better in this match and deserved to stay on a little longer. He was the only player in the first halve who looked like creating anything. Luckily lo celso made a huge difference all round when he came on.
Would love to see a midfield of lo celso, tanguy and hjoberg.
I agree with your points and pleased someone agreed with me lol.

With all due respect, but no. I want Ndom out of the club and he shouldn't even be in the match day squad with his application to his talent. More than a year at the club and we're still speaking about him just needing to return to fitness or this and that. The excuses are plenty. Everyone can see that he has an eye for a pass but he is currently way more of a liability than anything with his nonchalant passing and complete lack of movement off the ball and pressing.
For me one of, if not the most important trait, to have as a professional athlete is a good mentality and Ndombele obviously doesn't have it just like Adebayor, Taarabt or Quaresma for example. Plenty of talent but lacking the mentality and the personality to make the most out of it.

Shhh. We have to pretend he is a worldie and over exaggerate every tiny contribution he makes otherwise everyone will take the piss we spent 60m on him

I think tactically Jose nailed it second half.

First half Son and Lucas were both far too wide, hugging the touch line. With the high line and slow CBs Southampton have, we had to bring one or both of them closer centrally and run from deep. Son implemented this perfectly second half. With Bale instead of Lucas, that will be a scary proposition.

Lucas seems to find it hard to get involved and impose himself on a game, Jose will love his discipline, but his goals / assists as an AM need a big turnaround.

They weren't catastrophic tactics. It is how they play every game and normally with good success, we just exploited it so well in the second half. But, we need to play more like that, in the second half we were quicker on the ball, we were looking for options, not just trying to play long balls into space hoping that someone will connect to them. Our players can play, even our defensive ones, Jose needs to give them that opportunity.

Its pretty catastrophic when you do nothing about it, mid game. But I generally agree.

Amazing what real in your face challenging can do. The second half reminded me of Poch’s team at it’s best. Constant challenging the opposition player with the ball and swift counter attacks. Wonder why we didn’t do it first half and what Jose said to them at half-time that changed things around ?
If All or Nothing is anything to go by I bet it included “f*****g hell”

If you can write such lazy, pre-determined nonsense on a day like today, then theres no hope for anything remotely objective coming from you on him. Better you don't comment at all than spout such stereotyped, agenda-driven bile about our own player ffs.

I know VAR can be great but I wish it would fuck off. Watching modern football is becoming unexciting and frustrating. The new handball ruling is pathetic and the way they measure offside via VAR has taken all the fun out of the game. 2 or 3 times when we scored I didn’t celebrate initially because I thought someone was offside. I mean, the main reason people go to football is for the way you feel when your team scores, the fun has been drained from it

It wouldn’t be as bad if all the VAR decisions were correct but they’re blatantly not and different refs still give different decisions on exactly the same offences.

I shouldn’t moan after that second half but watching football isn’t what it used to be. New rules plus complete VAR inefficiency equals shambles.

If we get N’Dombelle fitter and then swap Winks for GLC (Winks is just ineffectual in my view, lucky to be here) and then upgrade Dier with the two new signings we SHOULD be hopeful of a good season, but I’m not getting carried away by this.

How about a top striker and play an attacking midfield of Son....Kane...Bale.
Kane’s passing today was world class
