Credit where is due, it was a Mourinho masterclass on the second half today. Saw what was needed and bring on Lo Celso, which provided the factor needed for the goal fest. Problem still is our defense, that was very shaking today, mostly Dier, but Sanchez had his share of braindead moments. Really, Dier is a shocking defender, Toby can't be benched for him. Winks again did nothing for us, i'm really hoping the midfield of PEH, GLC and Ndombele become a thing. If we bring Ruben Dias and another attack minded midfielder, we're becoming a really strong team the hype would be massive. COYS!
Rúben Dias definitely.
Also another central midfielder eg Brozovic, Carvalho or Sangare. Winks will stay as homegrown so Sissoko would have to go.
Vinícius as a additional,striker.
Fund these by selling Foyth,Aurier, Sissoko,Dele and one of Moura or Lamela.Winks and Dier can lookout as well.
Get the squad right once and for all.

Agree with your sentiments.

A quality CB (Dias) a capable holding CDM to back up Hojberg and an additional ST (Edouard? Vinicus? Daka?) would be cream your pants excitable. Then a matter of shifting some dead-wood / squad players.

Sell:
Foyth (12-15m)
Aurier (14-17m)
Sissoko (15-18m)
Dele (25-30m)
Lamela (9-11m)
CCV (3-5m)

Loan:
Sessegnon (3-5m)
Clarke (1-2m)

Listen to sensible offers:
Lucas
Toby
Gazzaniga

I’m amazed that some are questioning taking off Ndombele and keeping Winks on. Winks has limitations but you cannot fault the discipline he showed in the second half.

Nah I'm sorry I've massively defended Winks over the years but he was shit today. Saints midfielders like Romeu being made to look like Cristiano Ronaldo drifting past him with the ball, passing every potential transition back to the CBs, barely running with the ball into the space in front of him, not coming and supporting his fullback when they have the ball to create passing options.

Not moving enough doesn't translate into discipline. Needs a fucking ROCKET because he has the ability to eliminate all of the above. Another one ruined by the international team.

Interesting opinion? Curios to know why you believe the international team has "ruined him"?

Dier really was woeful that first half. I mean, really really bad.

Because they play non-penetrative possession football, which is great in the groups against poor opposition but ultimately where we come unstuck against better sides.

No aggression, no directness to the play, just languid, sterile football. Look at Dier when he first joined, Dele when he first joined, Winks when he first got in the side. All aggressive, direct. Now?

And you’d have thought in the group stages against poorer opposition we’d be more inclined to “go for the throat” in terms of penetration / attack mode.

I think Dele and Lamela would be worth ,more esp Dele and Sissoko a bit less.
Personally I’d sell Dier as well and bring in both the Korean guy and Reuben Dias.

Unlikely though with him signing that new contract and starting every game since post lock down.

Similar to Toby, had it not been for the new deal he signed earlier in the year i‘m sure the club wouldn’t be that upset if he went. Problem is he’s 31 and on huge wages. No one else would get near what he gets with us.

If Southampton go down it's due to their coach and how naive he is.

Imagine setting up like that and changing nothing, twice. They have to good players to go down, but they just might if they keep going on like that.

I think a lot of it is the media pressure to be honest. Every tiny mistake highlighted; it's getting tougher for players to express themselves now. It relevant to modern football in general but the England team seem to be under a different type of Microscope these days.

Personally, I'm keeping Lamela. I like his attitude and ability. The rest? Yep.
