The FA is a multi billion pound organisation, would have been too much to ask for them to have a contingency fund for situations like this? It is obvious this is going to happen over and over again, and I have a lot of sympathy with the likes of Orient who will lose out financially through no fault of their own. The FA should step up and look after those affected.

Doesn't the Carabao Cup fall under the jurisdiction of the Football League, rather than the FA?
I don't disagree that there is money within the organisers of the English game but I'm fairly sure this would be their response.

Just noticed that there is actually 3 months between the 4th round and the quarter finals. So if they postpone the 4th around as well, it would give plenty of time for both matches to be played.

Shame really. Orient are desperate for the money. They don't care about winning or the scrore, they need the £150k to help for their survival. The club is expecting to lose £2.5m by the end of next season.

But there is also European group stage every week. And its a more crucial time of the season the further we go in. 4 games in 7 days then would be even more unfair and negligent than it is now.

Yep just to confirm the £150k was the profit they expected from thE game according to their owner.

Great gesture from the club. But we shouldnt. It’s Orients fault. Their gross negligence have caused this and potentially outbreaks in other clubs

So, as it stands;
  • There have been multiple positive tests
    • All of the first team squad and staff should be self isolating
    • There is no guarantee that retests in 7 or 14 days will be clear or that new cases will not arise
  • Brisbane Road and training ground is closed
    • Orient have no alternative venue to host the match
This is what the EFL rules state

5 Non-fulfilment of Fixtures

5.1 A Club which is unable to fulfil its obligation to complete a Competition match in Round One to (and including) Round Four due to either:

5.1.1 that Club’s Player(s) having returned a positive CAT result and self-isolating in accordance with the action plan set out in the Return to Play/Return to Training Protocols resulting in the Club not having a sufficient number of Players to fulfil the fixture; or

5.1.2 any requirements or directions of the UK Government and/or by any public authority,

shall forfeit the fixture, pay the opposing Club’s expenses in accordance with Rule 5.8 and the opposing team shall receive a bye into the next round of the Competition.

Seems pretty cut and dry to me

Agreed, only reason i saw his tweet was because spurs fan accounts i follow replied to the tweet
Yeah we all get to see them some how unfortunately. Best just to starve the beast. Also I understand that Sunday Supplement is no longer broadcast so we will not have to look and listen to the prat either.

Spurs offering to pay the £100k Orient would lose out on if they forfeit the tie

I'm glad it was taken down.
We can offer that direct to the club, not through social.

We would be accused of bridging them to cancel by the media

Surely it's a risk to us too, it's ridiculous. The game can't go ahead but i'm not sure awarding us the win is entirely fair either although you might say Orient may not have been following the protocols properly. We might not like it but surely a coin toss sort of thing would be fairer if we can't replay the game?

How would a coin toss be fair if they are the ones that can't put out a team? They probably won't be able to play next week either.
