Can we even know if he would get a work permit unless we submitted one? Maybe we have to get this far into the transfer stage to know for sure. I'm sure much worse players have got one and with the value of him so much higher than last year I can't see it being a problem. Although it is Spurs and there are different rules for us so who knows.
Value and Wage are factors for the Exemptions Panel as far as I understand it, so it makes sense the deal has to be sorted before appealing for the work permit

I wrote about Work permit approval process here :

Going by this, he should get the work permit as he will most probably get the required points for approval.

If Skriniar was not linked to us this window, most fans would be satisfied with the CBs we already have ,especially with the window we have had. So, IMO, If Skriniar comes in - its a massive bonus. If not, not the end of the world.

If Jose decides to play with 3 CBs I don't really have any concerns about us not getting a new CB in (other than fitness from lack of rotation)

Agree. We lost Jan, but the advent of Japhet and the cementing of Dier as a CB, means with Sanchez and Toby, we're not short of CBs. Davies can also play centrally. And we have CCV at a push. While nice to add class to a position, CB isn't as crucial as having another focal forward.

Still, hope we do sign MS.

I don't think Tanganga is of the required standard of a Premier league CB yet.

So we are 1 short in my opinion.
Don't forget that Davies can quite comfortably step into the LCB. It could be said that it's actually his best position.

D1 is spot on.

The work permit is an issue, I still expect it to go through on appeal though. Mendes is an expert at getting stuff like this done.

Rudiger is a back up option that is doable, but everyone involved wants the Skrinier move so more creativity and a bit of compromise should get it done. My concern would be another club throwing the full whack at them if other deals fall down. At this stage no others in the mix, just has that air about it.

Fingers crossed at this point.

*resists urge to post David Brent gif* :inpain:

Would be typical if all was agreed for us to finally sign a striker, only for a bloody work permit to bring the whole deal crashing down.
seems weird we would go this far without making sure he would get a permit
Give the club some credit. I am sure the club's solicitors have been all over this from the get go

Wonder if Jose could convince Brazil to call up Carlos Vinicius as that, too, would be an element in his favour for the exemptions board. While work permit rules are different in every country, one would think the fact that he has played in Italy (pre-season), France and Portugal, will have some bearing. I believe they can now, after last season, frame him as a number one striker at a top club, which, in and of itself, may well lead to an exemption as he would be considered exceptional in his field. Works for professors at Universities, engineers at top companies, scientists etc.

I don't believe as Levy, with all of the similar experience (Spurs and other EPL clubs) would jump in with both feet without some sort of urgency.

If all works out, he is far more versatile (not just a striker) than some others who have been mooted.

I'm sure the club would have had their legal team making enquiries about the work permit, before the deal is signed off.

We can be as cynical as we like, but no professional organisation, whatever sector they are in, will go through all these negotiations, without looking into the work permit, with only days left to the deadline.

Negligence and incompetence would come to mind, if that was the case, particularly if he was denied a work permit last summer.
He was a regular starter for Benfica last year, so hopefully it should he fine.

If not we have time to get Josh King or Troy Deeney:)

P.S. in what sense is this spam?
