Not wishing to contradict, but just over a week ago we got a call from our client who said “we’ve got a call at 7pm with the buyer, there’s going to be a chip”.

We got instructed end of May to sell this building. 100s of millions of pounds. We’d all been working on the basis that “the price is is the price” from Day 1. That call was THE DAY we were supposed to exchange - we were in the final stages of issuing the final form contract and all of the annexures to it.

It absolutely DOES happen and it usually happens when you’re so close that neither side are really actually going to pull out. In fact it’s an entirely common story at the moment. And it does work.

All buyers are getting squeezed on interest rates - term sheets are getting ripped up. I can’t imagine it’s any difference for Spurs or any club using debt.

Whilst I can’t attest to this particular situation in the football industry, to suggest this sort of thing doesn’t happen/work at the top end where people are dealing with 100s of millions of pounds worth of assets isn’t right from my experience.
100% I work in IT for a big US finance company and deal with a lot of the contract.

Without fail on anything big enough in value we negotiate until our balls are blue and then our senior exec comes in and tells them we are pulling out unless go lower

Given people talking about letting managers have more control, if Ange wants to look at what he has and if they can play his system, then why not?

Playing the way Nuno, Jose and Conte wanted required different players. These players might suit Ange.

I think the issue is that these same players struggled in an ultra defensive low block in a counter attacking system, how can they possibly be better in a high line, front foot attacking system where they need to be progressive with the ball?
Just smacks of Levy saying ‘ We don’t need Tapsoba and Van der Ven, we have Tapsoba and Van der Ven at home’ when it’s Sanchez and Eric Dier

We act like a small time club at times, rather than an elite one which we want to be seen as (and the finances suggest we are). It’s all very frustrating

Not having a go at you personally but it's now turned into the 'slag Levy off yet again' thread, which is a tad annoying for those of us who like to avail themselves of all the facts before burning people at the stake.
Personally, I’m mostly here for the burning people at the stake. Even brought my newly sharpened pitchfork.
🔥🔥🔥
Burn Levy!
Burn the Levy slaggers!
Burn the availers!
Burn them all!!

Which is why I said "Even if we're trying to change terms it will be so we pay less in one go or whatever". There will be a financial element to it most likely if we're looking to get a win.
That’s what business negotiations are about getting the best deal for your company

Indeed but when you agree a deal and then change things after its a risky game to play. We've done some good deals so far though so hopefully it's just another case of us getting the best deal possible.

Wakes up to Daniel Levy’s still a **** shocker. I’d already cancelled mine and the kids memberships, haven’t bought them new kits or merchandise for years .& will continue that stance until he’s gone. I was considering taking my 3 teenagers to the Kiev friendly as it’s for a good cause but fuck him, bean counting loser. It’s compounded by them lot up the road backing Lego head. 1 trophy in 20 years and counting, messed up a once in a lifetime talent & yet he still has backers in our support base! Unbelievable, how people still defend that clown Levy baffles me. Thanks for the itk anyway gents

Agree he is what he is however we support the team end of the day

I wonder why we are trying to knock money off VdV now. I hope its because Levy found out in his Bayern meeting that they won't meet his price for Kane. So we won't be getting Kane money and so need to cut back on signings. I just hope we tie that deal up and then I'll relax.

It just seems to be in Levys DNA!

There have been suggestions of changing the terms. Could be price, payment structure or other items. But regardless, trying to change an agreed deal at the last minute is bad form. Even if Levy gets his way, the other party will leave with a bad taste, and that will make it difficult in future deals with this club, and with others.
I also said quite clearly it was regarding how the deal was shaped. Im being quite deliberate in how I'm phrasing it for good reason.
No wonder, you are wise because every word you say cause melt down no sense of proportion. You know more then any that in football nothing is guaranteed.

I love all the ITK we are lucky enough to be indulged with, and the likes of @Trix @Hotspur88 @dovahkiin and the rest deserve our utmost thanks for their contributions to an already fantastic site.

However, the reactions to said snippets can be bordering on the hysterical at times. There are so many unknowns that to categorically state that Levey has screwed us over again and that we are stuck with our existing CBs when there is plenty of preseason still remaining is a bit daft.

I'm interpreting the latest twist of events as us realising that we weren't going to secure the CB that we wanted before the tour and so are using that time to try and wrangle better terms. Optimistic? Quite possibly. Annoying for those with whom negotiations are taking place? Most definitely. However, Daniel is a businessman first and foremost and if he can do better by the club without jeopardising a transfer then good for him.

Will see how things pan out and will reserve my judgement until I see the starting line up for the first game. If I see Dier and Sanchez in it then duck and cover as I will be the first to throw my toys out of the pram. Until then, come on Danny boy, surprise us all.

I did say we could've waited til later in window starting with Forster wouldn't have been the end of the world CB has been priority number 1 for 2 seasons gong into the 3rd
Forster was at best a useful stop gap and we definitely needed to address this position as a high priority and pleased club acted so quickly. Next cab off the ranks should have been a CB and hopefully we get that sorted asap.

Outs have gone quiet as Ange wanted a bit more time to assess. Which is fair enough imo.
I disagree. We should have some sport department, sporting director, whatever, above manager to decide that certain players are here too long and don't match our ambitions. Of course when manager is here for some time it should be joint decision. But when new guy arrive we should just say: "listen we need to rebuild, this guy, this guy, this guy we need to sell cause they are here X years and it didn't work". Otherwise again we take responsibility away from players and put it on manager.

Personally I’m a big fan of history and what it can teach us about what will happen in the future…

This is the ITK thread why is anyone discussing Levy or the players we still have??
It feels like people are afraid when there's no ITK this thread will evaporate. It's like they need to post rather than leave the thread empty until we actually get some ITK.
