It's not something I like to see, but so often the player who reacts is punished more harshly than the player (and action) that they are retaliating to.

It doesn't matter how gently Martial contacted him...in the modern rules that has to be a red if it's seen. As with the handball rule, subjectivity doesn't come into it when a player intentionally strikes another in the face with a hand. It's harsh, but Martial was naive.

The difference with Lamela is that it was possibly intended to be a push in the chest. Lamela is not looking at Martial and his forearm contacts his chest, neck and jaw. It's not a swinging elbow. It would be very subjective to say he was trying to hit him in the face, so he gets the benefit of the doubt.

If Lamela should be penalised for anything, I'd say it should be simulation, not violent conduct.
Think both should have got a yellow but I am not complaining

PEH has so much more to his game then tackles. His reading of danger is something of beauty, what a leader in there. Love him already.

Seem to just be toying with them now.

Ndombele has been outstanding. His work rate has been phenomenal.

I actually think Tranmere defended better against us than this, and they literally had a bloke they’d found outside the chippy at centre back
