Did the Liverpool result take the wind out of the players?

Worked hard to not concede for 90 and got beaten anyway.

Jose's not looked happy all afternoon so its fairly obvious that the players haven't been following his instructions.

He said the same about the 2nd half at Palace so I think we need to temper the 'this is all Jose's fault' tantrums.

The players showed poor attitude and application all game and the same could be said about the 2nd half at Palace.

Reminds me of the All or Nothing doc where we see he was telling the players to press every game and yet we saw nothing of the sort from them.

I think the late Liverpool goal probably knocked the stuffing out of us, need to snap out of it and win at wolves.

The midfield is still the problem.

Is so funny when Sissoko was playing in the centre, balls went through him countless times with no effects.

When he was playing at RB, balls still went through him to put them into the box. Come on!

For awhile when he departed the CM duties we were doing better. Slowly balls keep going to him and turned out thrash.

We are doomed without a maestro in the centre who could demand the ball and spray passes around. Lo Celso seemingly is not the one. Maybe we have all been trying too hard to think he is.

With the way Jose plays I think a deep CM player in the Carrick mould would make us much more fluid playing through the midfield. Who that is nowadays???

Kind of game that makes you lose faith in Mourinho. I can see the value in the tactics, but today’s subs were plain stupid.

Tanguy off was the worst move of them all.

Why have Moura and Winks on the bench over Dele. Bet we’ll see Moura again next week.
Moura, Sanchez, Lamela, Winks can all be sold.

I'd also say I'm not seeing why Lo Celso offers any more than Dele.

Awful that. I thought team selection was good, but the players as a collective were so dissapointing.

I don't really think it was a tactics thing either. They looked like a pub team the night after the Christmas do. Slow to react, no movement, sloppy passing, poor clearances that just shanked up in the air.

Altogether piss poor in both effort and execution.

Agree with all this.

It's up to Jose to ensure that they follow his game plan isn't it? Ultimately concentrating on sitting back and hoping to nick a 1-0 has cost us for the third time in a week.

Doesn't matter how you set up if players don't perform and do the basics.

I have more of a problem with the players attitude and application than Jose's tactics

Utter trash. We had the great run but to be honest the performances in the wins against Burnley, WBA and Brighton were not particularly good. Yes we performed well and did a job on City and Arsenal and suckered them in while making no defensive mistakes but always felt a result like this was around the corner.

No problem with the defensive approach in certain games but no fan of seeing it every week regardless of the opposition. Don't know if that capitulation against West Ham has seen Mourinho revert back to what he knows best, but we can't go on trying to play like this every week.

Well that was fun. Good start to my 2 weeks off for Christmas.

Maybe it’s easier to avoid all games until the new year so that I don’t ruin Christmas.

Sorry I wanted to believe in Bale but he did fuck all in 45 minutes. I’d rather see Dele out there, he works 10x harder and gets stuck in. Just don’t see how Bale fits in a Jose team.
Moura as well hasn't given us anything since the CL Semi-Final at Ajax.

When he plays well we play well. When he is poor we look poor. He was invisible today, didn’t impose himself and was by far our worst midfielder. Still wouldn’t have taken him off when chasing but he was bad so I sort of see why it happened.

Whole team just looks gassed now and the games aren’t slowing up. Going to be a tough slog unless a couple of players can find some form.
This is his problem. He needs to step up more but like you say he hides too often

You could tell from the first 5 minutes what was coming. We came out with no energy and no intent. Every player half asleep.

As much as sissoko offers the team, he ends up taking more away, if that’s possible. He is great when he doesn’t have the ball but absolutely woeful when he does...bit like myself in my prime...??
Definitely the weak link in the team when we’re in possession. Difficult to see how we replace his energy and physicality without entering into the transfer market though. Maybe Skipp could match his energy and bulk up a bit.
