We have a midfield. We brought Ndombele as an 8 be nice if we actually played him there next to Hojbjerg. Resolves all progression from defence to midfield issues we have if he plays there

That’s an over simplification. A deep lying playmaker who can connect defence and attack like a Modric is what we are seriously lacking. NDombele is very very good in the attacking 3rd of the pitch but someone has to consistently get him the ball. Not once or twice. Hojberg breaks up play brilliantly but when he looks to pass there is really no one who can build up play which is why it goes sideways or backwards. Winks and Sissoko are simply not good enough.

He said the players lacked ambition and he will deal with it in private. I'm not sure how the players seem to be escaping the majority of criticism here.

Lot of Jose haters who seem to want the team to do badly so they can be proved right.

The squad isn't good enough and I will continue banging that drum until this squad is Jose's rather than a hodgepodge of those he wants and those he doesn't.

i don’t think anyone here is sole
The problem is not these players keeping the ball the problem is the attacking players keeping the ball. With the exception of NDemble all the other attack minded players have difficulty keeping the ball. Gradually as the game goes on we get pushed back more and more because we can’t transition from back to front effectively. Poor movement off the ball, sloppy passing, weak hold up play and a lack of adventure mean we co-sign ourselves to defending for most of our he game. It’s not the defenders who can’t keep the ball it’s the attackers. I find it strange given this problem JM doesn’t use Vinicius more as a focal point up top. In games he’s played he’s shown he can hold the ball up.

i think you’re partly right. though when Dier/Davies/Sanchez have the ball they are incapable of playing an accurate longer more direct pass, as for example, Maguire does does for Mant Utd. their short also ends up either putting a CM or full back under pressure, resulting in a rushed aimless punt up field. Winks cannot pass other than 5-10 yards backwards. his forward and longer passing is horrific. Sissoko takes 3 touches and his 4th is a tackle.

we’ve seen on counter attacks, the front 4, whoever they may be, are pretty decent at taking the right pass and making chances.

Son and particularly Bergwijn are not good at holding the ball up or chasing lost causes.

This. We need someone next to Hoijberg who can dictate play.

I sometimes think that a hungry Dele Alli who would be willing to put in the yards and the tackles could perform the role but think he’s not that keen anymore to win at any cost.

Who was calling it that? I think most of us would agree that this squad has needed an overhaul for nearly 2 years. It can't be done in 2 windows.
Agreed it did need a overhaul but apart from Hojbjerg and Reggie how do you feel the overhaul has gone after two transfer windows so far?

That’s what I’m saying.. Ndombele should be our deep lying play maker. It’s what we brought him for! he’s so good at breaking the lines with his passing and he always draws players onto him which would give our attack more space. Hojbjerg Ndombele as a 2 with dele or Lamela ahead

don't see us beating any of fulham, leeds, brentford or marine with these tactics
Seems to be whoever we play against atm. We’ll probably turn up at Marine with a 5-4-1 looking to nick one and sit on it. If we play this deep against them I guarantee we’ll concede from a set piece or from dangerous long balls into the box.

Bit controversial but everyone digging out Jose. Don’t the players have to take some responsibility? I can’t imagine Jose is telling them to play like this? Defensively resolute and quick on the counter sure but we just hoof it away. I think the problem is the link between defence and our front players. It should be quick transitions but we always try and bypass. I’m sure Jose is also not saying “don’t press” - hes saying press aggressively when they get over the halfway line and we have some space for our forwards - we aren’t doing that. The issue is the midfield for me and assuming Tanguy can’t last 90 mins it’s a tricky situation. We defo need to go on a run now against some weaker opposition - get the confidence up. I think we need to give Jose a bit more time than this.
Funny how Aston villa were able to counter attack yesterday with 10 men and score 2 goals.
