and that is where i'll go back to my original point - he looks as good as he does before he gets subbed as he does in the first minute of the game. I have not seen any indication he is wavering out on the pitch

Me too. We had one poster erroneously say that Tanguy “had his hands on his knees” but this was proven not to be the case.

In any event, surely the smart way would be to increase his minutes gradually and not have him play in EL matches?

As I said earlier, I believe his substitutions to be tactical as opposed to fitness.

This is approaching conspiracy theory territory that Jose doesn't want one of his best players on the pitch. The player that he made a point of praising and discussing his fitness post this game. I think everything mourinho does is read into when sometimes what he says is what it is

He is gradually getting more minutes on the pitch. Up until the last one he was being substituted on 60mins. Now he's getting more.

As I said, clearly this is a fitness issue.

it’s not clearly anything- that’s why there’s an ongoing debate.

Winks was breathing out of his arse it appears to me Tanguy is judged to a different standard.

Besides, there was no Gio to bring on after 60...

So you're saying Jose is lying?

I saw no difference in what Stevie was asked to do, compared to Reggie- he spent most of his time simply defending that flank?

We have three offensive passers- Toby, Tanguy and Kane. Only H was on the pitch, and the height of his ambition was to win free kicks to earn him and the rest of the team a breather.
If that was his intention then he would have brought on another defender. Just because Bergwijn was pinned back it doesn't mean Jose didn't plan for him to break forward. It just didn't work out that way.

While I’ve always maintained that he’s more of an 8, and certainly our best footballing option at CM, this part couple of games he’s starting to play far more like an AM in terms of the positions he’s getting in and his final third threat. Very pleasing today.

Here's your answer. Jose knows we need at least 1 of them on the pitch to play well so he is managing their game time.

I thought he played really well today. Positive in everything he does on and with the ball. He knows where teammates are prior to receiving the pass. A joy to watch and becoming more influential within the team week after week

This thread doesn't come up in my new posts nor can I see it in the Spurs chat forum, the only time I see it is when someone comments on in last and its in the latest commented on threads, really wierd...and kinda ironic seeing as Ndombele was hiding for most of last season ?

I love him as a player he has so much talent.

However his off the ball movement is not good enough.

I wish he had the Modric/Eriksen/Lo Celso about him where they always make themselves available.

He really needs to add this to his game it wil elevate him to the next level.

mourinho will find an agenda and be so stubborn to be proven right so yes I do believe Mourinho would shoot himself in the foot in order for himself to look right i.e. Dele situation

Jose plays him in the central pressing role. Kane and Son pull wide when we don't have the ball and Tanguy is frequently the furthest player forward. This combined with the fact that he also has some responsibility to track back means that we need fresh legs in that position. I've often seen him begin to fade in the second half.

Also, we tend to drop back more in the last 20, to our cost and the loss of probably 10 points this season, and Tanguy's skillset becomes a bit redundant.

Thats my take on it anyway.

Disagree on both front front and re Dele he currently isn't good enough to get in the team its not shooting himself in the foot by not starting him.

Happy New Year everyone.

NDombele looked really good in the match yesterday. Sharp and serving as the apex of the forward press. So much of our attacking play, in my opinion, hinges on his performances. Fingers crossed they continue consistently particularly with Lo Celso out.

Wondering, for those of you on the better side of the Atlantic, if there is anything you are seeing or hearing about him being upset about being subbed in the 78 minute? It looked like he was upset (made a hand gesture on the pitch as if frustrated to see his number called), and it appears he went straight off to the locker room. Was he just doing a "Dier" and came back to the bench to watch the match out, or did he go to have a shower as Mourinho likes his players to do? I'm hoping there is no (new?) tension between him and Mourinho.

Whether we agree or not on his fitness/why he was subbed, I haven't seen him react this way to being subbed so perhaps he wants to stay on the pitch (can't blame him - who doesn't want to play)? I saw Kane went to the bench when subbed and even Doherty watched from the side after being given his second naughty card.

I also thought he was unhappy being subbed. Any player with pride in his play should feel likewise. He was also seen pulling the sleeves of his jersey over his palms so he might just want to warm himself up a bit in the dressing room.
