It’s hard not to root for this guy! I liked him as a player for us, his attitude, passion (regardless of what you thought about his ability) we gave Tim the job, is it really that far fetched that we could maybe offer Ryan the job working with a dof? Not that I’m saying that’s what I’d want

We still have too few in CM so against better teams I can see us getting outnumbered and struggling to get enough possession.

I'm not sure whats going on with Rodon and Tanganga being completely dropped. I wonder if Rodon has ruffled a few feathers because it can't be anything he's done on the pitch

I didn't really mean the players selected (Bale was underused but not exiled, and Kane and Son were ever present under Mourinho). I meant that it would have been understandable for him to try to set himself up as an all out, caution-to-the-wind, 5 up front, do-or-die manager. He'd have got support if he had. But he's still using basically the same system and the majority of the same players. He's not wasting his 8 matches trying to catch the eye, but just setting us up the way we should be. Higher up the pitch, better movement off the ball, playing through the lines, and quicker passing.

I think he’s playing a different system to Mourinho. It is still a 4-2-3-1 on paper, but he’s playing the exact system Poch used when Mason was a player for us, with very aggressive FBs, pressing higher up the pitch, and more bravery and ambition.
For example, Mason has got the team pressing high in a coordinated fashion after two weeks in a way Mourinho never managed in 18 months. Mourinho liked a lower block with horizontal pressing (on the flanks) in 3’s in our half. They really are totally different systems.
If Mason got a pre-season as coach I’m pretty sure it’ll be double-Poch-running sessions too.

Mason has simply picked the senior players.

Apart from last weekend where I feel he got some things wrong he is doing and saying everything right. He's pretty much letting the players manage themselves on the pitch and has taken the shackles off.

He couldn't have come in a more perfect time for him tbh, it's the bounce period and we have relitavely easy fixtures so over the next 4 matches we should see some more confident and positive football.

You don’t include N’Dombele, Sissoko, Davies or Winks amongst the senior players ? I thought his selection for yesterday was gutsy and so pleased for him it worked so well.

I was talking about the defence and specifically in relation to the context of why Rodon and Tanganga have not been played. Coming in and picking Dier and Alderweireld was a no brainer for a caretaker manager.

I agree. But having Sanchez on the bench before either of Tanganga or Rodon just doesn't, and will never make sense to me.

I keep saying the one thing I look for in our new manager is seeing glimpses or the foundations in place. I texted my dad and brother 20 minutes into the match saying I know it's against the last place side but it's so refreshing to see us pressing, playing 1-2 touch football. Those are the glimpses I wanted to see next season with the new manager, and I'm seeing it now with Ryan Mason at the helm, who would have thought? haha. Here's hoping it continues in our last four matches to build some confidence and momentum into next season.

Also I don't want to get too hung up on the final but I do think he can look back and say he's held arguably the best team in Europe to 0 goals in 83 minutes. 10 more minutes and he gets us to ET. I think he saw how Mourinho and Spurs beat them earlier in the season and tried to replicate it. Although it was refreshing that he insisted on installing Poch-like play out of the back system. It wasn't effective on the day, but there were a few times we played out in the second half leading to some breaks. Sadly, we'd have a misplaced pass or a lack of confidence and pull the ball out for possession.

Listening to Ally Gold - He said that apparently everyone is really impressed with the training sessions that Mason is putting on.

The big test for Ryan will be getting three crucial results in the space of one week [Wolves (H), Villa (H), Leicester (A)]. He failed with his squad management and rotation in the Cup final, but has a chance to get it right here.

If we come away with 9 points from those 3 matches it will be a massive achievement.

Players always say that though. Never heard one go he's shit and clueless (at least at first/while they're still employed)

You should read what they were saying about Jose training sessions

I know what you mean, but they were complimentary for the first few weeks...

to be far this isn't the players coming out doing the PR rounds in interviews, this was Alasdair Gold talking about what he's heard through his sources at the club. Whether those sources are biased towards sending out the good vibes for the clubs benefit is another conversation but I'm just relaying what he's supposedly heard

I read that he’s gone back to the training sessions that Poch used to put on when Mason was a player. The players are enjoying the familiarity apparently. While that approach isn’t going to be long lasting, we don’t need it to be.

It is a good idea to get players enjoying life again and is probably the reason why some of the players that have been here a while are now getting chances ahead of others. Fine by me if it gets results.

He's doing exactly what I feared, relying on the likes of Dier, Winks and Alli too much. It was obvious that was what was going to happen. It's fine now whilst we are in the bounce period, but the wheels will fall off again eventually if we continue to rely on these players.

Thankfully Mason won't be in charge next season.

The latter two have each started one match out of the three we’ve played. The former has played all three matches and in that time we’ve conceded from two set pieces, headers both times, neither time his man.

Not saying I agree with his selections but at least wait until the facts back you up before you express such dismay.

I don't need to wait for facts, I know all three will ultimately disappoint. No way back for any of them for me at Spurs, let's not let this new manager bounce kid anyone.
