Love the ‘January is difficult’ line. We’ve been told how Juventus are broke but yet can find £70m in January to sign a player they know will improve them Immediately. All comes down to ambition. Signing 2 players who’ve spent half a season on the bench from midtable sides appears to be our level.
No point bidding £70m for a player who has no interest in signing for us

People get toxic so quickly because this shit has been going on for years and years. There's been numerous occaisons were things were supposedly changing – but they didn't.

People can see where this is heading because we've been through it before. Why are we even looking at a player like Amrabaat?

If we fail yet again there will of course be excuses about things that are out of our control, but the truth is we're dreadful at transfers.

A lot of the players being mentioned in this thread are bad options as well btw. Out of favor players at big clubs that hasnt performed in a long time or was overhyped a few years back.

And no, I don't have any suggestions as to whom we might sign. But we have people that are being paid a shitload of money to work on these things all day and the options that are being put forward are sometimes laughable.

And how? If the clubs don't want to sell and the players don't want to join?

What. Bentancur and Arthur Melo are open to loans, Guimares is available on a loan with obligation of £45m, Lille are in financial mess so Renato has his price, Zakaria is 6months away from a free and available for 7m euros, PSG want to try a swap deal. The names are not that unrealistic.

I hope Amrabat is Conte's wish and he all proves us wrong anyway. But I'd be very surprised. And also Ali Gold said Paratici brings in the players(not sure about that)

the media backlash about not supporting Conte going to be in overdrive, Conte will constantly be aske din press conferences do you feel you were supported etc pundits constantly discussing us not supporting him live on super sundays gonna be painful to constantly hear

It's the new 'Harry Kane to City' story, to follow the 'Poch to Man Utd' story, there always has to be someone leaving Spurs.

ITK eh? Hardest game in the world...

Villa - Coutinho & Digne (two first team additions)

Everton - two first team full backs and El Ghazi for squad depth.

Newcastle - Wood & Trippier (two first team additions)

Watford - signed 4 players. Haven't a clue whether they're decent or not.

Wolves - two additions

The above clubs are those that have either hired new managers and got some signings in early or those who are in a position where they need to strengthen as they're light on numbers or battling relegation.

Just because City, Lpool or Chelsea haven't strengthened doesn't mean we shouldn't. Top three is pretty much nailed on for all of them and they're likely happy to wait it out until Summer.

United - interim manager and would be foolish to strengthen until they bring in a new manager.

Arsenal - they're clearing out already and likey to make moves but they've done something we haven't - is get rid.

Whereas, we are fighting for top 4. There's a decent chance for us to get it if we strengthened with quality additions. Not stop gaps until the summer.
Poor teams signing a certain calibre of player is not any other team signing the “quality additions” you speak of.

Some perspective is required.

Plus several of those would improve our squad too (it's that weak!)

This I agree with. However I would say Villa and Newcastle's signings would all probably benefit us at this moment in time.

Not usually one to call this stuff out and I’ve seen Several people over the years use ‘bipolar’ or ‘schizophrenic’ as adjectives so I’m not just mentioning this to you.

As someone with Schizophrenia and living in the community, I think you misunderstand what schizophrenia is as an illness and also stigmatise people with it when making these remarks.

again, sorry to highlight your post and nothing personal.
Righto, no offense meant my good man.

January was always going to be tough, everybody knows you can't get anyone decent unless you throw stupid money at it.

That being said, is it wise for Conte to be burning bridges with players he may well need to complete the season?

But would we be able to give them what they wanted to come here? A few would only be squad players where as first team in those teams!

I could mostly agree with Villa though, but I just don't think Coutinho would replace son out wide, or be played at a CM player when we play 3 up top.

Worried we are just making the same mistakes again.

Not getting in first choices, taking a punt of other 'affordable' choices that end up needing to be moved on because they are not good enough.

I guess at least we are now focused on loans so we can send them back, but it's a worrying sign when we are looking to fill the large gaps in our squad in this way.

Perhaps the most worrying thing in all this is with a DOF, you'd have thought there was a clear plan with identified targets and the ground work done prior to secure signings. But it still feels very much like we put a list together, hoping that clubs will accept offers well below valuation until we end up at the bottom of our list, contemplating whoever is left.

we have seen 21 years of transfer windows under Levy. We know how this film ends

it is quite rational to assume lack of ambition, get “just good enough” for top 6.

whatever info we get, unless something actually happens that says different, why expect anything else.
