We are not a poor team. Chelsea are a very good team.
It doesn't have to be a comparison with them though. Under Nuno we were on course for a mid-table finish. Last season we finished 7th and our squad has got worse. The only reason top 4 is even thinkable is because we have Conte, that does not change the fact that most of the players are not good enough.

Plus several of those would improve our squad too (it's that weak!)
100% would take Coutinho, Digne, Trippier to come into our first 11. I'd take Wood as a backup option too because it's criminal that we still only have 1 senior striker at the club.

I know that this has been repeated over and over, but the problem with "all about next season" is that if we don't have get cl, then how are we going to attract quality players in the summer when we're not even close to getting them now?
Yep. And every year it's always 'next season.' The thing is, there is NO next season. There is only now. And we keep signing shit. That has to stop if we're ever to get back to our best form.

I give up. Just panic.

Conte definitely gonna walk. That house you want will fall through. Your girlfriend is cheating on you.

Why do we always feel the need to compare ourselves to other clubs ?

We should be focusing on our own needs / priorities of our diamond manager.

Yes January is difficult for all clubs to do business, but if you savvy enough, you make things happens.

Considering that we all have access to the same information (ITK and mods aside) yet are able to reach a vast spectrum of conclusions, can we at least acknowledge that 90% of these annual debates are about things entirely of our own imagination?

Shit player
It all depends if Conte is happy to sign them. Conte has signed tons of underwhelming players in his time who have fitted in well to his system and squad.

Amrabat for sure is no world beater but if he is all we can get in CM for now to tie us over until summer then he's better than nothing.

Conte said in his PM presser last match "January is difficult and there are some opportunities, sometimes not the best opportunities but we have to do something as the squad isn't so big".

Amrabat is probably the type of signing he means whereby he is obviously no Kessie but if Conte thinks he will help us out from now until end of the season and then next summer we go for say Kessie/McKennie or whoever and bring in Sarr then that could be the strategy.

From Conte's quotes I really think we will sign at least 2 players, Traore and a CM and quite possibly a 3rd if another 'opportunity' comes up and we can agree to move on GLC, TN and DA etc.

This all being said, if we are trying to flog Ndombele to PSG then I'd rather we got Winjaldium than Amrabat if possible.

But I'm relaxed and Paratici won't be signing players Conte doesn't want or agree on so whatever we think of any of these signings there will be a reason that we are signing them as part of a wider agreed plan with Conte.

Poor teams signing a certain calibre of player is not any other team signing the “quality additions” you speak of.

Some perspective is required.

Coutinho, Digne and Trippier would all improve our squad IMO.

They're not generational talents but they certainly aren't players to be sniffed at.

Except maybe Digne, I'd pay for that privilege. But that's another story.

because we are in direct competition with these other clubs

Our own needs are relative to what the competition is doing

No point bidding £70m for a player who has no interest in signing for us

No that’s true. My point is though, you want something you pay for it. Juventus want a player they go and get him. If we really wanted to improve we go and pay the money for Lamptey or similar. But we don’t. Never have done under this ownership. You can be damn sure there aren’t any other top 4 candidates looking at Fiorentina’s reserve players to push on.
