I think it'll be relatively easy to make their moves permanent tbh.

TN is back home and I doubt he can be bothered to go back to London where he's not wanted.

GLC is back in a country where he lived previously and where the culture and language are similar to Argentina. Again, does he really want to go back to London where he won't get a game?

I think they'll both enjoy themselves until the end of the season and be eager to continue at their respective clubs into next year.

I think the issue will be the finances involved in the deals. Lyon less so as just received big chunk of money from Newcastle. But it’s still hard to see them spending £55 million or what ever it is on a player.
Lo Celso there isn’t the option for Villereal to buy him so it’s hard to determine what we value him at. Very happy if I’m wrong but just can’t see them spending £25 + million on a player. Obviously if he does well it might open the door to other clubs like Seville or Atletico Madrid who you could see spending that Kind of money.

I suppose you do have to factor in the structure of the deals, maybe we will do some funky deal particularly with Ndombele which will make it more appealing for Lyon to buy him.

I think it was good, especially when you consider what our rivals for top 4 have done. We have strenghtened, they have not.

… or suggests that Paratici is in charge of transfers. ?
I think Paratici made the deals happen, but given the potential budgetary implications I would be shocked if Levy did not give final approval. Either way, it’s uncharted territory for us…

Well, I’m sure we’ll find out pretty soon if he isn’t. Any quotes from him about lack of options etc will be telling.

Seen a few mentions of having a lighter squad, but IMO we have more options than we did before.

Dele, Ndombele & Gio were never really used, and when they have during this season have looked poor most the time.

As long as the 2 that have come in put in the effort then we have more squad options Conte will use so all down to if they do put in the effort or just jog about the pitch.

Yeah definitely. 21 players should easily be enough. I just think we needed another (short term loan) number 9 that’s all. A proper option, not a makeshift one.

Be interesting to know who this other 'in' was or position?

3 in was universally agreed by ITK and media alike but that appeared to change from RWB, CM and striker as certain targets fell.

Decks cleared ready for what will need to be another big summer. 7-8 ins needed imo: GK, 2xCBs, 2xCM/AM, RWB and another striker.

Let's now get our heads down and finish strongly because CL is a must.

Don't think anyone will disagree with that, we have wanted one for ages now!

My thoughts, it a start. A decent window, not enough I'd say to rate it as good, but equally not negative enough to say it was bad either. Some positives in shifting out players not wanted but some of the issues have temporarily been solved they have not been solved in the long term yet so let's hold fire on giving FP too much credit on this because the majority of the outs are loans and hopefully we haven't kicked the can down the road and the expensive underperformers don't come back in the summer and bloat out our squad like bad pennies. If they are permanently sold on then FP deserves the other half of the credit that I'm deferring for the moment until we see what happens.

Yes FP has helped us make two on the face of it decent additions, but they were from his old club, so has he really proven himself to be this valuable contact who has influence outside of his own comfort zone, I'd say not yet. Let's wait and see because he will need to properly prove himself in delivering in the summer when the real hard work for acquiring the depth and quality we need in the long run and long term will begin.

So for the moment it's a start that I'd give a 6.5 out of 10 or maybe 7 out of 10 at a push, not below average but no more than that yet. I'd like to have seen one more in because I think we're a bit light if these two don't click into gear as quickly as we hope but to end on a positive I'm cautiously optimistic.
Re FP deals ,To be fair Romero and Emerson are decent additions to the squad also.

Having slept on it. I feel we are better positioned now than at the start of January. Now I understand others have an issue with a thinner squad in numbers, however those who went (bar Gil) weren't going to be used by Conte anyway unless injuries and suspensions or covid forced his hand.

We brought in two young players from Juventus, who as far as I know are highly rated and will want to work for Conte. Kulusevki's interview showed me he will work his ass off. We now have two players who improve our squad quality.

I wasn't expecting all the outs in January I have to be honest. I thought one at the least would stay until the summer. But, it's a very good start for Conte and Paratici.

I'm happy.

As with most on here, I’m happy with the ins and outs, looking forward to seeing the new guys get involved. Kulusevski reminds me of what we saw in Bale - when fit - last season, which gives us great balance and quality from our right side. I would think he also gives us better stamina and higher fitness levels there as he’s a lot younger. Bentancur seems like the ‘Brozovic’ player and could really tie the midfield together. He’s also quite tall and physical, our midfield has been pretty small and lacking in that area since the Dier/Demebele/Wanyama days. Shame Dele, LoCelso and Ndombele dropped off or failed to reach their potential. Had high hopes for all three this year, but it seems they all were quite happy to go elsewhere.

One of the most interesting parts of the whole window is the creativity in getting these deals sorted financially. Not just so we could afford our targets, but allowing other clubs the same respect to get their targets from us. Which was very much needed.

The way Kulu strikes the ball, from the videos I've seen, is so sweet.

A bit like Bale.

You can’t mark this window out of ten, it’s only the first window of a painful rebuild. When the next transfer window closes we will have a much better idea. I think is so important to get the housekeeping right and that’s exactly what has happened by clearing the decks of the three big names that wouldn’t be used for the rest of the season.

Sets up well for summer. Couple of good additions to add Conte's 'options'' for now, whilst a clear statement that want he wants out, he will get. No rubbish added for the sake of it.

Very little additional deadwood to clear now, any players leaving will now need to be replaced.

An under-rated element of the Ndombele/GLC loans, which may be intentional or not, is the fact they are both in absolutely the best place to succeed. Normally with these loans you fear they'll return and go back to nothing, but I can only see these two having much greater interest/value this summer. Perfectly worked.

Wouldn't surprise me if we tried to include Lo Celso in a deal to buy Pau Torres, we know Paratici wants him.

I am somewhat calm about our business.

We have got rid of the deadwood that Conte showed no interest in playing and brought in 2 players that will give Conte more options he will actually use.

Only time will tell if we have left ourselves to short on numbers.

I'm pleased with the window.. January is hard but we've shifted some difficult to shift characters and brought in what I think will be two excellent additions.

For me as well as the attitude/application issues one of the big problems with all three of the players we've offloaded is that they didn't really have a position in the formation we are playing under Conte. Alli, N'dombele and Lo Celso all were in some form that 8/10 hybrid player, not quite solid/defensive enough to play in the base of midfield but also not quick/attacking enough for the front three. Pochettino's way of playing liked these types of players in a midfield 3 to create fluidity, but for the 352/343 we are playing now none of them had the discipline to play any role. The fact all of them had their other issues made them a bad problem to have so being able to get rid of all three in one window (hopefully permanently if they do okay on loan) is a big achievement. Taking their salaries and squad places away will mean we can already start competing for the many out of contract players in the summer without the usual "we need to trim the squad first" excuses.

I also really like the two new players and think they will be very important to the team, particularly as they seem to have a down to earth hard working character to go with their ability, and they are both clear square shapes for square holes in the squad. Overall if this was a summer window I'd want a few more in and more permanent outs, but I think for a January window this is as good as we can reasonably expect.
