The only thing I don't like about this is that this was made public. I don't like our business and training methods being out there in the open. It's not some great revelation but this running drill is the top story on the Daily Mail Sport section and on Reddit as well.

I don't think this is beneficial to us, doesn't allow us to control the narrative and stay low key.
I am kind of the opposite.

I want this kind of stuff public - so teams see how hard we are working, and why they should be worried before they ever kick-off against Spurs.

I think it's a bit bad because it raises expectations

I think I spotted the problem. Expectations are very high this year - "win the league" high.

Conte is not aiming for top-4, and he wants the mentality of the club to be: "We are going to win the League!"

“It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.”

Don't think it's a big deal. Will be forgotten in the endless football news cycle within a few hours.

From what I saw there was nothing remotely groundbreaking, either. Running drills are standard in pre-season and everyone knows Conte has a reputation for pushing his players really hard.

Personally found it quite interesting since in England we rarely do public training sessions - this kind of thing is totally normal in other countries but not here. It was mainly interesting as a Spurs fan, though. I woulda been bored out of mind if it was any other club.

There was nothing there other than a kick about and a lot of building up of fitness, it doesn't give any other clubs any info that they already don't know, that a Conte team will be super fit and odds on to start 3-4-3. What will be kept secret is any work done by Gianni Vio

Bissouma looks every bit as nonchalant as I was expecting. Cannot wait to see him playing this season.

I agree it will be lost in the news cycle soon but I hope no more of these sessions are filmed.

Tottenham Hotspur doesn't do well with expectation as a club so raising our standing as physical monsters will prick up the ears of everyone in the league. I can see the argument saying it might intimidate opponents but I am not sure.

It's not some major deal but I don't think this is a good thing and hope we can come into this season under the radar somewhat.

That was not some kickabout there was 20 minutes of pure Conte pattern of play. I am surprised he allowed that to go on camera, he has not let anything slip in the 6 months of Spurs training videos we've had, normally just box drills, some finishing stuff and gym work.

Today we got a full pattern of play drill.

Conte wants to be secretive, I think he will be annoyed at how big this training session has become.

Wow that last drill was something else, in that heat as well. Fair play to Gil, Sarr and Sanchez, very impressive! Kane looked like he would pass out at one point.

Quite a few of them did Poch preseasons. I can’t imagine this was that much worse. Probably brought back nightmares for some.

I know that's an iconic quote from Bill Nick, but it's always struck me as a bit naff somehow, as in, failure is acceptable if the circumstances dictate. Half of it is stirring, but then the other half is a damp squib.

Would love to see Gil, Sarr and Parrott force their way into the squad because of their effort levels. It’s not out of the question IMO.

Conte is the sort of manager you'd want to play for if you're looking to get the very best out of yourself. It's hard graft but these players are clearly buying into what he's saying and I'm so excited for the season ahead. Trusting the manager is important and it feels like as a whole the squad is actually all together for once and pushing hard in the same direction.

Dier looks in fantastic shape. Strong and lean. A lot of them do. Seems like we have a proper blend of hard working dogs and technical quality. Bring me the quadruple. COYS

Its funny - I attended an open training in the States years ago when Spurs were on a pre-season tour. It was NOTHING like what we saw today. In fairness it was a few weeks later into pre-season, and I am guessing Poch did not want to expose the fans to his tough fitness training...

But, I suspect Conte does not care about the time or place, or who is present - he wants the squad to be fully fit in a month, and will do what it takes to get there.

Yeah I kind of agree - but I think the important part that fans should accept - Conte's goal is to win the league. He is all about setting high expectations, and then putting in that work. And, I think he wants to disabuse anyone who looks at the squad and thinks top-4 is good enough.

We need to either keep one extra full back or attacker around the squad assuming we don't bring another in. Reason being otherwise we only have 5 attackers for 6 positions.

So either we can:

- Keep Parrott or Gil as 6th option
- Keep Reguilon as a back up so Perisic can play more of a role further forward to cover.
- Keep Emerson and sign Spence or other RWB, then maybe Doherty can cover the left side instead of Reguilon

The rest of the players should be loaned to get game time, i'd keep Sarr for now and reconsider another loan if we manage to get another CM later in the window.

I"d keep Sarr until the January window. Let him acclimatise and we will need back ups in the middle in what will be a uniquely tough season.

He was probably laying a trap to deceive the other PL clubs on our tactics, a bit like Operation Fortitude in WW2, don't think he could have missed the amount of cameras there and he must know that Korean TV will want to know what Sonny does every minute of the day & night.

I think you're misreading it. For me, the point isn't about the desired objective. It's about the road taken to that objective.

Winning - either an individual game or a trophy - can never be guaranteed. There are too many unpredictable twists of fate; too many unknowns; no way of controlling what other clubs might do. But standards can be set. Work ethic; team ethic; courage; positivity; desire to entertain; desire to win. These things can be guaranteed.

I think Bill's words were just another way of saying what Danny Blanchflower equally famously said:

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

I agree with wanting our training to be private but these are open sessions and he knows that. All the teams are doing it - just look at what is happening in Bangkok with Liverpool, or soon the states with Chelsea.

If these were so secretive he would have waited for a closed session (although not sure if there are any in Korea during the trip)

So happy to see mental and physical training being taken seriously going back to the basics again. Don’t get me wrong, all the sports science and specific strengthening players do is excellent, but a brutal beasting where players heart rates are high and they’re hanging out their arse for an hour or so will do them the world of good in giving them the mental aptitude and strength that will be necessary throughout a season. Also will be incredible for creating good team chemistry and morale ?
This is true but even elite level athletes like Kipchoge etc. who run 100km to 140km per week will only do 20% of their workload at a high heart rate. So yes its good to a point.

I completely get that, but the Bill Nick quote always strikes me a bit as 'we'll give it our best shot but we've got our excuses ready'.
