Just seems like all parties want this to happen, so it should do. The added extra is that Paratici and Conte are supposed to love the player, so I can see us pushing that little bit further to get it done.
It makes sense for Roma to sell, given this is their last summer of being able to at top dollar. With no CL football and Serie a prize money I don’t see them competing with us on wages for contract renewal, not even close.
Seems like there are details being ironed out on 1. loan fee amount, 2. option amount, 3. obligation amount, and importantly 4. the appearances threshold it becomes an obligation.
Fitting this puzzle together so everyone is happy will take time. There are two competing agendas: Roma will want to be reasonably sure of funds coming in, so that they can replace him and won’t have him back at their place with one year left next summer. We will want to be sure that we don’t end up stumping up big money for a player that has an injury hit season. That would make it only 1 season in 4 that he has played - imagine stumping up £40-50m for that, we have to protect against that.
