I cannot agree until recently he has been outstanding and consistent.

Absolutely correct. People will insist on making him a scapegoat but the fact remains that he was one of our most consistent players last season and has played well in most games this season too. He was certainly the best English defender in the country at the tail end of last season.

To balance the argument, he has also made a couple of mistakes recently that have been punished, so those mistakes are highlighted more than others. Our other defenders have made just as many mistakes.

Dier does need a rest but let's not just jump on the bandwagon. He is an excellent central defender.

Dier is an average PL defender - much better in a 3 and with 5/6 deep teammates just infront of him ala Mourinho & Conte!!

Sorry, but if Dier (and Davies for that matter) are mainstay's of this defence, we won't be pushing on. They are squad players who should dip into the team every now and again. Playing in a back 3 somewhat gives them a hiding place and they get nowhere near the team if they were at the other big 5 clubs.

Dier hasnt been great the last few games an dhas made one or two errors but he isnt the issue to the team. Also lets not forget the guy has played pretty much every single game without any damn rest. He isnt the reason why we are starting slow and cumbersome because you would see in the second half we werent slow or cumbersome and he was on the pitch

He is average to ok defender, who looks good in a back 3, gives his all, fights and tries, all heart, but at the back of it all is not good enough playing the ball out from the back, too wayward in his passing and is just not of the level required to move to the next level.
We need our version of Van Dyke/Dias who are next level defenders, but also comfortable playing out from the back, can help us beat the press with crisp, quick passing and not slow ponderous ones.
All the above can apply to Davies too, not saying both need to go, but should be squad players ala Sanchez, only in first team when rotation or injury force same.

He used to get a rest during every international break. Looks evident that this was necessary to recharge him mentally and physically.

Rumours of him signing a new contract.

Looks like he won't be upgraded anytime soon, which imo doesn't bode well for us, if we want to win something.

The fact that we are actively looking at more defenders suggests that if Conte gets who he wants, Dier is not a nailed-on starter.

Dier was one of our best and most consistent performers up until he got his England recall. Of course we had a death in the club and fixtures piling up etc., but I do wonder if now he feels he got his place back he can coast through until November and the World Cup.

I'd be perfectly happy with Dier being involved in the squad moving forwards.

It's our reliance on him being our main CCB that is the issue

Outstanding against lower level teams a bit like Kane has turned out to be...once the levels are higher Dier Lloris Davies Sanchez Doherty Emerson etc will find a way to F up
If Kane is only outstanding against lower level teams, how does he have these goal contribution stats?

Against Europe's "elite":
Barca - 2 in 2
Bayern - 1 in 1
Dortmund - 5 in 3
Inter - 0 in 1
Juventus - 1 in 2
Real - 1 in 2
Sub-total - 10 in 11 (a goal / assist every 1.1 games)

Against Premier League "big 6":
Arsenal - 17 in 18
Chelsea - 9 in 21
Liverpool - 9 in 15
Man City - 7 in 14
Man Utd - 7 in 18
Sub-total - 49 in 86 (a goal / assist every 1.75 games)

Total - 59 in 97 (a goal / assist every 1.64 games)

Yes, his stats are even more impressive against lower level teams (as are most attacker's), but he hardly disappears against strong opposition.

EDIT:
I omitted Leicester from these stats, even though he has averaged more than a goal a game against them, because they were only "big 6" for a brief period. Including his goal contributions against them would bring his rate to a goal / assist every 1.44 games.

He has averaged 1.26 goal contributions per game during 403 games in a Spurs shirt. It's to be expected that his stats will be less favourable against teams stronger opposition. I don't think a difference of circa 30% is greater than we should expect...

Not sure if Romero is out.
Dier is , 100%
Either way, we've got plenty of players who can play even without Cuti.
Dier ain't playing, can't reveal who told me.
We have bodies but not quality.

imagine a back 3 of Sanchez Lenglet Davies ?

not disputing your information though

With our full strength first team, or with some rotation, this is a tough game. On paper though, it’s a great game to try and get game time into some of younger, fresher players. Tanganga, Gil, Skip, Spence, White, all need minutes.

Dier, Kane, Sonny, PEH, all look so leggy.

Shame Richy and Deki are injured, we are stretched. But many a great player got their foot in the door because of injuries.
