No decent RWB/RB will come in if Conte walks or is sacked. Porro and Dumfries will be struck off the list and Levy will enjoy a new car instead.

Can only assume that if we’re letting Conte go to get Poch back, and thus accepting we’re sticking with the formula to get kids with potential in rather than ready made players, that ticket prices will be reduced in accordance?!

They've well and truly shot themselves in the foot, by the way.

Back in the summer by announcing the 150m injection. I know they had no choice as it needs to be public knowledge but still it raised expectations that havent been fulfilled and just confirmed what many have known about ENIC

Conte created loads of energy - he got us top 4 with a squad that was in relegation form under Nuno.

It helps if you match your managers energy by spending 200M on players like Botman, Guimaraes, Trippier and Isak, who instantly improve their team

And that's the critical thing - spending money to IMPROVE the team and squad.

Spence may have potential, and "may be better" than similar-aged Emerson, but does he actually dramatically improve the squad or team?

Will he hit the ground running and slot straight into the PL as an automatic starter? Absolutely not. Not like any of the players the toon signed, not like the players the gooners, or chelsea or City or United have been buying.

That's the point Conte is making.

We keep spending money on players who help us tread water, and occasionally can be coached to outperform.

But in a market where high class talent like Mudryk costs 50M+, you have to face market reality. Instead we operate like buying 2 or 3 10 - 20M players will be fine because 1 in 3 "works out", even if they don't dramatically improve the team.

We can't expect to win trophies if that continues to be our approach. We can't expect to keep a coach of the caliber of Conte.

We should expect to have a coach like Nuno, or a gamble like Poch, who may or may not work out, but won't ever be backed if he does.

No thanks. Not any more.
How about players like Richarlison, Bissouma, Perisic, Lenglet, Bentancur and Kulusevski?

Are we just going to pretend now that Newcastle’s was great business while ours was crap, and totally ignore how both sets of players have been utilised by their respective managers?

Perhaps. But do you really want to watch us playing this way?

When Pep needed a new wing back for his system, they spent 54M on the best player in the league in that position

When Conte asked for WB for his system they spent two months haggling over a championship player on loan who'd impressed in a couple of cup games

That, in essence, sums up the difference between a club serious about winning with a serious manager, and a club with a serious manager at a club....chaired by Levy

Rumours, and they are only rumours is that he will walk this week if not given assurances.

My opinion is that Levy has his cheap out so will just let it happen.
This would be one massive case of shooting yourself in the foot, (probably more like between the eyes)
Conte is not blameless for me. Noticeably this evening saying we lack creativity, but continuously putting 7 defensive minded players in the side each week. Never previously looking for a ACM
But this would be bonkers. Get so far, and force out the best manger we have any hope with.
Binning off this season.
Sending Kane a clear message.

Levy - happy to be a top 6or 8 side as long as his shares are worth their millions.
Above him the same - investment needed almost certain not to come.

I guess true 20/20 would say we do elite GK, RWB, CB, CB, ACM and some decent attacking options from the bench.
Today’s substitute balance was horrendous.

Pushing Conte, must seal Levy’s own departure?

Nope

Like all those players. And I agree - i felt optimistic that a corner had been turned after the summer

But one summer does not a swallow make. As conte said - it'll take multiple windows.

One good window if not followed up is pointless. We still have glaring deficiencies, and Levy's fired up the grammar phone to play his favourite tune about "players with potential who can be developed who don't cost a lot"

We know how this song plays out. I've heard it too many times to listen again.

This was clearly a tongue in cheek comment, but they actually might do over time. Conte leaving for Poch will surely show the players what ambition the club actually has. Expect Kane and Son to follow Conte out the door shortly after, so we’d lose all the Son fans.
The fact I was offered a season ticket the summer after I cancelled mine tells me the waiting list is all a load of bollocks and it might not take much for empty seats to start becoming a more normal occurrence if we do become a mid table side as we all expect.

Conte didn't even get the inbetween option (30m potential from Europe)

Straight to unproven young player

And then the manager kept playing royal. Even tho he isn’t a rwb.

It might, but also City are being funded with limitless $$$$ as a nation’s play toy.
Tottenham is still carefully managed as a business.
As much as I Would love us to go out and drop £200m on a RWB, CB, ACM, high quality bench game changer.

Will we see Skipp,Sarr, Gill and Spence given a run now because some of this squad are not up to Poch’s high press?
