Am I alone in thinking there's something comforting or essential about having a lanky/gangly and slightly ungainly black CM in your team? Just reminds me of Viera/Yaya Toure and probably some others.

Was very impressed with this showing

There 's nothing like a positive 30 min cameo after the recent sea of negativity to get my juices flowing, so I've come up with a chant for Pape.

To the tune of the Beatles 'Drive my car'. Skip to 0.51 secs for the hook

"His name is Pape Matar Sarr
You know he's gunna be a Star
His name is Pape Matar Sarr
And Pape we love you!
Pape, Pape, Yeah
Der der der der der...
Pape, Pape, Yeah
Der der der der der...
Pape, Pape, Yeah
Der der der der der..."

Come on, tell me that ain't a sure fire banger in the terraces...

I'm in awe.

In my 15 years on SC this is the only time I've ever seen someone write out a song idea and it's not been total dog shit.

Keeps moving doesn't he? Passes the ball then follows it - no suggestion that he thinks his job is done once he's found a team-mate. Sounds like such a basic skill but it's a mentality thing rather than technical. If he's got it at that age then he'll always have it.
That's exactly what jumped out when watching him. He's always working to get himself open and be an option for a pass.

Looks to make progressive passes when possible too, not just the safe option all the time.

via Ali Gold:

You've worked closely with Pape Matar Sarr, what have you been working with him on and just how good he can be?

He's a very young player. It's the first time he came to England. He has one year experience in Ligue 1 in France. About his skill, he can do everything because he's a great player with many possibilities. He's a midfielder who can play in many positions. He's a talented player.

I spoke at my last press conference about the way you have to wait with young players. If you use young players at the wrong time, you can make a mistake. But with Pape, Antonio decided at this moment that Pape is ready and he improved a lot in training.

We worked a lot on body position and many skills he has to improve. He showed a desire to improve and this is very important for us. If you work with a player and they show this desire it's easier. With Pape it is easy. He has to continue to work because we have a hierarchy, so he has to respect this and we have to respect the players. He has the possibility now and he has to show his desire and his quality.

He's breaking through into the first team, taking his chances well and learning the Conte way. Salernitana may be keen on him but I don't think Conte will be happy to loan him out at this stage of his development.

I wonder if Conte playing him was to put him in the window.
I'm not sure Conte would do shop window playing time for youth players I'd guess we were lining him up for a loan (hence discussions) but injuries forced Conte to play him in some PL games. After seeing him being able to acquit himself well, we now want to keep him here.

Total speculation, obviously.

As per the Athletic, Conte now does not want to lose the £22 million man this month, and the same goes for Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr.

So conflicting stories , who do you believe. After his cameo against Palace hoping Sarr stays.

Selfishly and impatiently want him to stay and see more of him but sensible option is to let him get regular minutes in a major league.
