Klopp has spent more than we have too.

Sure he has, then again Liverpool have more resources than us, but it was about beating the odds. Getting into CL final 4 times with Dortmund/Pool is such for example. Conte not winning a single CL knockout game for a decade managing Juventus, Inter, Chelsea and us is the opposite.

Klopp has spent more than we have too. He got what he needed and they won things as a result. His squad was as bad if not worse than ours was when Conte arrived but they backed him.

It is easier to back a manager whose progress and ideas show on the pitch than one who comes out clueless week in, week out.
We're in the top 10 wealthiest clubs

We are in top 10 in terms of turnover, I don't bother to post the link the third time around, but it goes deeper into our financial situation at the moment.

I can see the appeal of breaking the cycle and backing the guy. I can.

But by god we are boring to watch.

Exactly, if the football is semi respectable then fine, keep him but it is awful every game. Could it get better if we sign him those world class CBs? probably but what happens if they get injured?

Even if Spurs get an attacking manager, some games will be awful, that is football, that is expected but you cant expect every game to be terrible like it has been this season. There is nothing to work with conte here. The club should just ask him who the bad eggs are, consider removing them along with Conte and make sure the next manager has the clubs ethos of "to dare is to do" at heart. This is the identity, do not deviate from it again.

Some of his comments were warranted because the board (and DL in particular) have failed the fans miserably in recent years but he’s also got us playing some of the most appalling footy I’ve ever seen.

Imagine paying the price for our season tickets to watch that week in, week out. Absolute shite and refuses to adapt. He’s not the coach we need.

His style is certainly dated but it has got him success. Maybe it can't work in England anymore but this isn't a typical Conte team either. Just look at the teams he's worked with in the past. They have winners and real character especially in defence. He may set us up to defend but our defence is too weak and bottles it. He should take some blame for it but he shouldn't change his style when it's worked everywhere else. I'm not a fan of the style especially if we win nothing but I still think he's a top manager once he gets the players for his system to work. The trouble with this style of manager is when the team is not built its not fun to watch. If its an attacking manager like Potter even when it fails you can at least enjoy some of the football being played.
I think I'm just fed up of 'if he gets his players' managers

I know it's too simplistic to just say 'do some coaching...improve what you have available' but that has to be part of what a manager does surely?

And that's quite aside from the fact he has actually bought in quite a few players anyway.

I want to believe. I want to believe that "this time" DL and the board would decide to stay the course andstop dicking around and back (not just with money but intent, change their lastminutedotcom random punts etc) the guy they chose. Then we can see where we are in another 18 months.

But my heart is too shriveled and blackened for hope anymore.

Be nice if it happens. If not, see you all back here in 2 years when the next guy gets yeeted.

EDIT: I can understand people being unsure that Conte is the one to break the cycle with. He's hardly a long-term prospect at the cubs in which he has had a large amount of control after all.
The good thing is Levy has been backed into a corner here for once.

Conte has called his bluff before he could sack him.

Well played Antonio, he’s played the game of Levy Poker better than any of our previous managers.

It’s kind of lose lose for Levy now but it could be win win for us and as a club.

Option 1: Conte stays, they ride out the storm, agree a contract extension and back him PROPERLY to finish his rebuild this summer. (Levy will get stick for not firing Conte and if it does work out well, he will get stick for Conte having to have lost the plot and called the board and club out for them to sort themselves out)

Option 2: sack conte (fans will say it’s just the same 18 month manager cycle going to repeat itself again and the club has no clear plan). However if we go back to hiring a project manager who suits our club model and recruitment is half decent next summer then the style of play and results could improve next season. If it doesn’t then Levy gets stick for the same cycle repeating itself except now the fans and media’s eyes have been fully opened to it.

Of which 2 out of the 5 are our best players

Hard to say that about son anymore. Even before his ridiculous scoring run last year people were desperate for him to be dropped.

I love the guy but he’s a lazy player with regards to the defensive side of the game.

Jack Pitt Brooke from Athletic is firmly of opinion that he's not lasting the international break. Obviously he's just a journo etc etc but imo he is a good one and has some knowledge of the club.
I like Jack and he's very knowledgeable but I get the sense most of his journalism is based on vibes and gut instinct rather than real contacts at the club or insider knowledge.

His opinions swing back and forth non-stop.

Agreed, it's not what fits us as a club anyway. It never made sense getting Conte without changing our ways. We need a more flexible manager who can develop young players. I think Conte is great at the right club but it's like we need to be Dortmund and not pretend to be Bayern. We have some great young players to develop and if we can get another Poch to develop them I think we'll be back on track. My only issue with Poch was moving away from a director and not bringing quality new young players for him. If we sign young players like Spence and Danjuma then we need a manager that will work with them. That's the only way it's going to work under our current regime.
