Chelsea have not placed Luis Enrique among the leading candidates for the permanent head coach job as the club start to cut down their shortlist and prepare for a new round of talks.

Enrique flew to London two weeks ago for discussions with Chelsea, but there are no further talks currently planned with the former Barcelona man which could leave the path clear for Tottehnam Hotspur to make their move.

Along with Sporting’s Ruben Amorim, Enrqiue is now rated as an outsider for the Chelsea post with initial contact thought to have been made with all the main contenders – including Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea are expected to hold further talks with Nagelsmann, who was interviewed last week, and Pochettino, along with other coaches, with club sources still insistent there is not yet a favourite or single leading contender for the post.

Nagelsmann is believed to have impressed Chelsea during his interview, but, despite outside sources and some players believing he is the most likely permanent successor to Graham Potter, insiders have rejected any notion that the German is emerging as the favourite yet.

Former Tottenham manager Pochettino was interviewed by Chelsea and impressed co controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali before they appointed Potter. He is still available, having been out of work since being sacked by Paris St-Germain.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Tottenham have made moves to contact Enrique and it appears the north London club might have a clear run at him with Chelsea’s attention focused more vividly elsewhere.

Chairman Daniel Levy has previously expressed reservations over Enrique’s lack of Premier League experience, but the Spaniard has been highly recommended to Spurs and is on the club’s shortlist of candidates to permanently succeed Antonio Conte.

Stuff of note to us has been bolded.
'Lacking in Premier League experience' doesn't fill me with confidence then.

One would then question the viability of the likes of Slot, Postecoglou, Gallardo and Nagelsmann's in Levy's eyes also.

Don't have much of an interest in the Poch to Chelsea rumors except for the fact of the ones at the matches/online singing for him to come back.

To me, whoever we do appoint will be given less of a leash or time to results if Poch is in the same city getting some. Luckily, Chelsea are a bit of a mess at the moment but I could see them being straightened out through brute force of spending haha.

I just want us to make the hire of who we believe in but also give them a long-term project with backing and time to instill their ideas.

Don’t think Poch will be at Chelsea, they seem very fixated on JN. Would be interesting to see the reaction, though, after he said he’d rather work on a farm than manage the rival of a former club.

Why should it be aimed at anyone? He's entitled to work, and we don't want him.
Yes... he's entitled to work where he wants... agree. But I must admit that my old love for him will take a big hit if he goes there... I remember him saying something about never wanting to work at Arsenal out of respect to Spurs... to me Chelsea is in the same category... I know we have had former Chelsea managers, but they did not have a love affair with Spurs before that.

I wouldn't want him back later if he was at Chelsea in the meantime.

"Aimed" is also a harsh word... but my love for him will fade away if he goes there. We had a lot of big bloody battles with Chelsea when Poch was at Spurs. It's an important part of his time with us...

If Poch goes there then the fan unrest will be huge. It will be perceived, rightly or wrongly, that we’ve just let it happen. Which it actually feels like.
On the flip side, maybe Poch isn't as in love with us as we thought and we can stop singing his name at matches and move on. There were reports he'd met with Ed Woodward on the side of the M25 a few years back that people conveniently forget when they look at everything through the lens of nostalgia. Make no mistake, I'm sure Poch genuinely loves as much as you'd expect any non-homegrown manager to but I think the relationship is a bit more one-sided than our fans like to think. This is his job at the end of the day and he believes in himself as one of the best in the business, he isn't going to ignore the top jobs.

All I really care about is that we get the right guy this time. Genuinely couldn't care less who goes to Chelsea including Poch.

Doesn’t feel like that to me. I don’t think Poch should be back to us yet. He needs more time and experience before that happens. Yes he won with PSG so do nearly all managers there.
I did love what he did for us but didn’t understand why he came out with “he’d leave if we won the CL final” . I will never understand what motivation that gave the players. I’m not blaming him for the loss as it’s only part of the reason but it should never have been said.

It’s not helping us that the Chelsea search seems very mobile and in the public eye as actually happening whilst ours isn’t and so the perception is that we are sitting on our hands (which is what is probably happening).

Of course.... I agree that our next appointment is crucial... maybe more than ever.... I just think many Spurs-fans will be hurt if Poch gets/wants the Chelsea-job... he still means a lot to some fans.

Who knows... maybe Levy or the club don't want him back because he has spoken to Chelsea earlier ?
