Jermain Defoe wants to be the next Sunderland manager.

The England legend and current Spurs Under-18 coach has a backroom team poised to go and is keen on a return to Wearside. Defoe, 41, has held long talks with big name bosses including Gareth Southgate, Harry Redknapp and Steven Gerrard and says he is ready to step up.

Id wish him the best of luck.

There are a few ex spurs up at Sunderland so I have positive wishes for them anyway

Sunderland have had 16 managers since Roy Keane became the last to reach 100 games in charge. In that time they have also had 11 caretaker managers. Keane left in 2008.

If the story is true, whoever is advising him on this move needs taking down to the woodshed.

I truly hope that one day he lands a management job, but that club is a club for any potential manager to steer well clear of.

I wonder if he does get it, if we see a few players going there on loan to help out. Defoe and the staff would know them (I presume, even for different age groups) and would maybe help them get better players in cheap.
