Would love to think that all this time taken has been about getting the whole Board on the same page. I can't see what we can achieve as a club, on the pitch, if the Board are divided on an appointment. We really need the next manager to be supported by some kind of unanimity. Sorry for introducing optimism. I'll go off now...

I think Celtic were 25 points behind Rangers the season prior to Ange joining them. That's quite a gap. So he deffinately had work to do going in, and will leave them as the dominant force 2 years later.

That's not too shabby imo.
They spent €50m during his time to Rangers €20m. Celtic have outspent Rangers by €50m in 5 years and during Ange's time Celtics net spend has been 5m whilst rangers have made €25m. Thats a difference of €30m which for that league is practically a new team. Which he did do by getting in 24 players

I did too but Ange seems to like using existing coaches and I think Mason would get a really really big role in the day to day coaching under him.

I'd love for them to have a conversation and see if they think they could work together.
I'll put it this way. There is a culture at Spurs. Mason is a big part of that culture. Lloris, PEH, Kane as part of the senior membership committee are also a big part of that culture.

I think most of us recognise and accept the culture here does not work and needs to change. I suppose it's up to the new manager how he sees best to change it.....Conte tried to do it within the existing structures, with the same players. It did'nt work for Conte.

You honestly don't think we've spoken to him yet? Slot said himself that managers always talk to other teams. We would have spoken to him before he met with Feyenoord. I'm sure we would have spoken to Ange too. It happens all the time. The thing is you couldn't really get anywhere if you didn't. Technically you shouldn't talk to someone under contract but how would you ever talk to someone if you have to agree with their club first? You have to talk first before deciding if you want to make a formal approach to their club.
Do you have information that we have interviewed him directly? Yes, we may have but without actual info we're just guessing.

The Goat hears (from a reliable source) that although Matilda is still the likeliest to waltz through the door, it isn't decided yet. Also, a fairly new source (so salt please) tells The Goat that someone else has been spoken to over the past couple of days.
There was a jolly swag man “.

It’s a reference to Levy stealing a living.

But I could say the same that you don't know we haven't spoken to him. I'd be very surprised if we haven't even spoken to a manager we have serious interest in. We've been over 2 months without a manager so must have spoken to all the relevant options by now. If not then we should have. You can't wait 2 months without even getting to that stage. Even with the season running managers talk all the time. Ange can say he's 100% focused on the final but thats just what you tell the media. It's pretty easy to speak to another club and still be focused on your current job.

BBC Radio 5 Scotland reporter saying just now that we have permission to speak to Ange next week, and that the consensus and feeling in and around Celtic is that he'll will leave for Spurs.

Seems unlikely to have spoken directly, but probably through intermediaries.

The worst part of Goats post is that we still haven't decided. Unforgivable to still not have a clear choice. I would no doubt be more confident to get someone who has managed at a higher level to Ange. However he's still an interesting option and we should know by now who we want.
The domestic season comes to a close today. Perhaps the football yearly contract window ending at the end of June will have a bearing for compensation with whomever we go for (JN still affected here as he's on gardening leave and not sacked).

With Nuno we had to bring someone in as the players were about to report back for pre-season. This time we have a couple more weeks grace whilst the players are on holiday.

I've completely fallen for the idea of an Ange and Mason dreamteam.

I was already watching loads of YouTube videos and reading nerdy twitter threads but I listened to the fighting cock last night and Mark Nesbit sold me on Ange being better than even Nagelsmann

I really hope it comes off this week. Would love to feel a bit of positivity.
He should promote Yaya Toure too.

Same difference to be honest. The point is you speak about the important stuff with each potential candidate. Do that in good time and then put down a list of the preferences based on that info. If the first doesn't happen you go straight to the next option.

Put it this way. If there's a big job opportunity for Ange is he honestly going to wait until the season finishes before any dialogue with us? Would you really risk someone else getting the job because you didn't even put your name forward yet?

Well, it was two years ago today that there were very strong rumours of us getting Conte in, almost to the point of it looking inevitable. I remember it well, as it’s my birthday and I thought ‘that would be a good present from Spurs to me.’ Only for it to all fall apart again, and nothing to happen until Nuno was presented to us. Therefore, I refuse to believe anything with this club until it’s actually official!

You're right, neither of us know which is why I said we.

But to get back to the original point, I don't think you can assume we don't have a number one choice based on the wording of ITK which is at best second hand.

I'm not complaining about that, I'm complaining that we haven't decided who our preference is yet. If we have decided on Ange that would be fine but to not know yet is crazy. 2 months and we don't have a list of priorities laid out.

'Permission'.. isn't as BREAKING as it sounds. Ange is on a 12 month rolling contract, which by all accounts has expired and the 'permission' harks back to something Ange said himself; that he doesn't want to know about anything other than Celtic right now, and his reps know better than to bring him nonsense before a cup final. It's not like Celtic have said, 'sure knock yourselves out'.

His Agency is CAA Base, which is also who Spurs have been using as intermediaries. They've probably all been talking about it in the kitchen at the CAA Base offices!! 🤣

You mean the wording 'not been decided yet'? Do you think they mean not decided by Ange yet? I don't know what's going on but just finding it frustrating for us not to be decided on who we want. We should have a clear idea by now 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices. That's what a well run club would do. We just seem to have too many people each with their own preference. There's no unified way of thinking here and everyone on a different page, even on a different book.

I kind of do think we did know who were our initial preferences. JN was the most likely, but he wants assurances about a DoF... (which we're working on) and there's the high compensation Bayern want, so we've added him to the list of possibles.

Slot was next and wanted to come, but contractually not possible becuase of the clauses he had, the high buyout Feyenoord wanted for him and his staff.. and for 15m + first year salaries taking it all to over 20m.. We walked away - and there was an element of using it for him to get a new deal and manage in the CL next year. Was always going to be difficult.

I'm giving the club the benefit of the doubt for a couple more weeks. ⬆️

The problem I have is the names here, the names there, and it looks like a shit show. I want it kept airtight as even if manager X isn't coming, getting linked with them or interviewing them , and details coming out looks bad, and makes Manager Y think they're 4/5/6 choice.

We need a system of identifying managers for the next 1-2 appointments down the line. Brighton know who they'd like (or who's on the list) after RDZ.
