So he'd be best playing in the Maddison role?

I think he could play next to Maddison or instead of him if needed.

CM types (IMO)
AMs: Maddison, Gallagher, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Devine, Kulu
CMs: Bentancur, Sarr, Gallagher, Bissouma
CDMs: Bissouma, Skipp, Bentancur

Now it's just down to Ange wants. Lots of good overlap there to trim that group and have options/balance

This will depend on who he prefers.

If we meet their valuation Chelsea will sell.

He'll walk into the West Ham team, where as it will be more competitive to get minutes with us I'd assume.

So depends how it's all sold to him I guess.

No doubt our facilities are night and day above theirs.

I don’t love it, but if we are effectively trading Hojbjerg for him - get younger and homegrownier and a better positional fit, it makes some sense. 35M is not insane, especially seeing what Mount and others have gone for with the english premium.

I would be seriously surprised if he chose West Ham over us. I think he knows there's a good chance he will get plenty of game time if we meet Chelsea's valuation for him, and Ange apparently likes him a lot.

If Kane goes there's 0 chance for much better signing because we need homegrown
I think we have enough homegrown. Its just a question of whether they are of the right quality because we're limited for non homegrown. Our main issue is actually clearing out non homegrown numbers as we're over the limit. So you then want the remaining number of players who have to be homegrown to be of high quality. So far we got Winks out and Maddison in so have improved on one. Get Tosin for say Tanganga and that's 2. It just sets us up better going forward. Maybe Phillips gives us one down the line when he's older. Losing Kane means we lose our best homegrown but getting Gallagher at least adds a good one rather than having to keep one of the others (Sess, Spence, Rodon, Davies). Quantity of homegrown seems OK but its the quality that's an issue really.

I can see West Ham getting him with the money they have to burn. We'll piss Chelsea about while they need people in right away with the Rice money.

If WH really want him I could certainly see them offering Chelsea a more favourable deal in order to make sure they get him. They will probably try and get it done swiftly as well, guess it will come down to how well Ange sells the project but even so WH will be able to offer him a more key role you’d think. Considering we are struggling to sort out our defence I’d be surprised if any CM was high up our priority list atm regardless who leaves.

It sound like he's a HG Hojbjerg replacement, a 1 in, 1 out, if it does happen.

Wonder who he'd opt for? Probably more guaranteed game-time at West Ham and they might offer him higher wages to lure him.

...but they're West Ham.

I love how we will piss Chelsea about but the only team yet to make a transfer will go straight in and get shit done

Yeah we're not bidding that much.
Also depends where he wants to go. If West Ham bid £80m and he doesn't want to go, and let's face it who would, the Chelsea can posture as much as they want. If we bid £35m and he wants us the Chelsea will have to lump it if they want rid

That’s surely a West Ham premium - the downside of publicly being given over £100m for one player!
