The article says they want caicedo from Brighton and they will probably overpay to get him
Yeah think he's likely to end up there eventually. Chelsea have proven themselves to be overpaying chumps so Brighton are asking for silly money and are happy to wait.

Would be a good signing for them but still think they'd be a player or two short.

I personally think CG in the advanced 8 role in AP’s system is a great fit.
I think he'd be the kind of 'all action 8' alongside a more creative player like Lo Celso or Maddison.

Basically someone who runs like fuck, does loads of high pressing and harrying off the ball and defensive covering, but can also arrive in the box and finish moves or score from range on occasion.

Basically the role Skipp did in the first half against West Ham.

Someone was saying Gallagher is fundamentally unsuited to playing as an 8 in an Ange system because he's not a creative passer, but I actually think that, provided we have Maddison/Lo Celso alongside him doing that part, he'd be fine at doing everything else as the system itself and the movement of the players is what does a lot of the creation in this system. And he's fine at the simple, linking, short passing stuff.

Yeah and he's proven to be a much better finisher than skipp. Fwiw poch has been playing him at 10 in the 4231 in pre season according to Chelsea fans. He scored the 3rd goal against brighton

I would still want to keep Lo Celso as well. I think Gallagher would be great to replace Hojbjerg as a better fit for Ange. Then we'll be looking at 7 options for a central 3 out of Bissouma, Skipp, Sarr, Maddison, Lo Celso, Bentancur and Gallagher. Bearing in mind Bentancur is out for a few months. We could then decide to offload 1 in January when he returns as 6 should be enough.

Despite all this talk of him suiting the system I think it's much more likely he ends up at West Ham.

They'll offer more money than us cos of Rice and Chelsea will much prefer selling to them over us.

I’ve seen different to this.

I’ve actually seen that he’s been playing as the deep-lying midfielder for them in the double pivot.

“Gallagher-Santos double pivot, with Casadei in more advanced positions.
Gallagher played quite well in a deeper position, he played as the deep-lying midfielder.

He drops to help progression, creates from there, and attacks the box.”

Above are quotes from a match analysis after their first preseason game.

The above description does sound quite similar to what Callum McGregor’s role was in the 6 for Celtic.

I do think that he is definitely most likely to play as one of Ange’s 8’s, and whether he would be capable of playing as a lone 6 as opposed to in a pivot remains to be seen.

But I definitely wouldn’t rule out the possibility of it yet.

Actually you're correct, what I read was Chelsea fans saying he looked shit in the double pivot and then amazing when he moved forward to the 10 position

Edit - "I wanted to sell him when he was playing in the double pivot today, then I changed my mind when he moves further forward."

"Nico Jackson is having some cameo

Gallagher is a lot better in this position than he is deeper IMO"

"Yup, being the 10 with two mids behind him is the perfect position for his manic mad dog energy."

"yep looking like he did at palace when the 2 behind him let him push up"

This chimes with his Palace performances. He's wasted in a deeper role. Needs to be breaking into the box.

He's turned up to their preseason in the best possible shape. He's been looking good as well.

The reason I like him he's a version of a way better defensively Dele IMO. not like for like, but a lot of his goals are him arriving in the box, or scoring ugly goals. Still very effective but he's not the "sexy" 8/10. Basically the complete opposite of Ndombele, yet his 8 goal season at palace shows he can be just as effective.

I do see a midfield that could work of Gallagher - Maddison with Bissouma in behind and have it be strong enough going forward and defensively. Is he the nailed on guaranteed starter? Probably not. But I still think he'd be very useful to our current squad/set up

Don't like the idea of dealing with those pricks, but the best of him has been with other clubs anyway, and if we could essentially replace PEH with Gallagher for an outlay of ~£10m then I'd think it's incredibly smart business. He'd have resale value also if we needed to upgrade in the medium term.
