I agree that Ange hasn't been using the Academy players in the way I would have liked too but I can't agree that a player beyond 19 is stale.

The Dutch league is one with little investment and the only way a club can survive is by producing young prospects to sell to the bigger leagues. That is their M.O.

As I indicated earlier in the thread, Spanish players regularly don't make break throughs until they are 22 or 23.

Its very infrequently that players break through at the age you're talking about and that is all clubs. When they do breakthrough it happens at teams that are already winning.

I'm not going to say Ange is doing badly with the Youth but I will say it in 12 month time if we're doing well and we're still seeing the same
In fairness, the Spanish system with the B teams playing in the lower divisions helps in this regard, as you're still playing proper competitive senior football if you're playing for, say, Barca B.

It's hard for any youngster getting through to the very top level, hard breaking through at any level really

If we had a full and complete First Team, that was settled and had depth, then you could argue that youth should also be brought through. but for the last 4 years that's not been the case. So it's not been a clear pathway, and any youth that has come through could have been better prepared.. Tanganga, Skipp, Dane, Parrott.

Seeing Donley and Dorrington in and around the First team under Ange is a good first step this season to getting that all back on track.

Keeley straight into the team as Barnet lost 3-2, from the highlights I didn’t think he did much wrong but Altrincham were all over them until 3-nil.

I've a lot of faith in our current youth and think a good few will kick on.

But I do think fans and in particular fan forums kind of self perpetuate these hype trains and then get outrageously impatient regarding young players breaking through.

Veliz, Phillips, Donley, Dorrington etc are not being held back or stifled. They are coming along just fine and if they are good enough they will break through.

For every Harry Kane there are plenty of Josh Onomahs.

Foden had thirty-five senior appearance for City before he turned nineteen, ten of which were starts. I don’t think Donley had has thirty-five whole minutes of senior football yet, having just turned nineteen. So Foden isn’t really a fair comparison.
I think everybody could see that Foden was a future star at 17. Outstanding when we won the under 17 World Cup . None of ours are anywhere near where Foden was.
If he had been anywhere but City he would probably have been first choice by 19.
On the other hand, 2 other outstanding players in that team were Sancho and Hudson Odoi. Not doing too well at the moment.
Ange has been here 6 months. Done a hell of a job. I don’t think we should be whining about youth players.
They have to force themselves into his thinking.
Just because our under 21 team are doing well it doesn’t mean the team is full of superstars. We all know that if we get one proper first team player from that squad we have done well.
Some years ago Man Utd won the under 21 league and released the whole team that summer. No one has come back to bite them since.
At the moment I would think Alfie Devine has a chance of being involved next season after his performances on loan.

I think the point you and others are missing is that this isn't under usual circumstances. You compare it to other players at other teams but are ignoring the point we have been going through quite a severe injury crisis, which was never the case for instance when Foden was coming through at City. We've been playing squad players out of position in key area's and also players the manager wants shot of, over youth internationals. All of course after we have been telling them they are the future of the club so please sign a contract.

Yeah, it's not a great look, especially considering this season is a bit of a free hit for Ange.

Phillips to Plymouth on loan for the rest of the season. Decent move for the lad. Hopefully he gets plenty of minutes there.

Soonsup-Bell or Santiago next? Reckon we will keep Dorrington in case of emergency?

We've had many an emergency and not used Dorrington, so hopefully he gets his loan too.

Really pleased we'll get to see more of Phillips in the Championship. Hopefully he shows he's capable of mixing with full grown men

Dorrington must be loaned. It seems Kelly from Bournemouth will join us.

Does it? Where is this coming from? Always felt like Kelly would be a summer move when his contract is up. Thought Bournemouth still wanted big bucks for him in Jan (£25-£30M) and suspected we’d wait out and try to get on a free in the summer

from the ITK's thread.
The possibility of Lloyd Kelly joining has increased separately to Dragusin before you all get stressed

No reason why both can't be true. Ange wants to win now - so plays his best options now, while still acknowledging that the academy players have a role in the future - key word - future.

If they are not ready - throwing them in prematurely won't make them more ready.

According to Ali Z on COYS Dorrington has a loan lined up at Millwall, providing we get some bodies in

Would be very interesting - a much higher level than I expected for his first loan...

I even thought Ashely Phillips would be best off going to a league 1 side and being a key player but let's see!

With Phillips and possibly Dorrington going out on loan, which U18 CBs do we think will now feature for the U21s?
