100% an option and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they released him so would be a free transfer. I'm not sold on him tbh so it's not one that excites me but if we identify him as someone Ange and the new recruitment team want then that's fine by me.
My issue is, is he a player we want even if he hypothetically cost £30/40 mil or are we only interested because he might be free are close to it. If it’s the former then I completely support the move even if I have questions but if it’s the latter then I hope we stay clear. Personally I can’t help but feel we are only interested because there’s a deal to be done.

Whilst I agree in principle, if the cheaper "Ange ready" option for a LW means we can spend extra and get Todibo over Dragusin or Gallagher (Ange's 1st choice by the sounds of things) over another CM, then it would be worth doing IMO. If Jota then doesn't work out can shift him or send him back or whatever then get a proper LW in the summer.

Just feels like another Danjuma / Solomon situation. Good quality player to pick up on a freebie, but is he really going to move the dial for us? I have my doubts. Just another cheap opportunity who should be just about good enough to keep us where we are.

If saving money on the LW gives us more to spend on a CB or CM then fair enough, but we do this transfer window after transfer window and it gets harder to accept and trust that any savings here will be spent elsewhere.

if only we’d sold a generational talent for about 100m in the summer we’d have enough in the bank not to sniff around for cheap deals 😬

Surely its more a Perisic situation than Danjuma/Solomon, as its not like Ange doesn't know him

I love how people are already writing Solomon off completely.

Poor lad has been injured pretty much the whole season. Baffles me how anyone could make any judgement of him based on what we have seen so far.

Doing a deal is how Enic have operated for 22 years

buying something for £7 that Levy thinks is worth £10 will always trump buying the much better option for £12

not sure the upbeat start under Ange will change that too much

We did a "deal" with Kulu and Bentancur where we had an option to buy after a loan period.

I just see the possible Jota loan as similar, besides why shouldn't a club be interested in a 'deal" Ange has worked with the player, the player has worked in Ange's system so where's the risk?

Imagine if we had done a similar deal for N'Dombele?

He was unreal for Ange at Celtic.

Obviously the premier league is a bit different though.

It must be something else. I wonder if there’s some kind of lifestyle clash.
Quite possibly, I mean I doubt I could live there but I’m not a professional sportsman in peak condition, I’ve far too many vices.

He might not want to wait until next season to be registered too though?
I’m just not sure why al-ittihad would be willing to let go for cheap tho, which is what a lot of reports have been suggesting. Doesn’t really make sense to me. They only recently bought him and in half a years time they can register him. I’m assuming they could even register him in jan if they unregistered someone else. Even if they don’t rate him why would they be looking to cut a deal. A loan until summer I can understand as they would be able to register him on his return, but if there is a buy option surely it would be very close to what they paid originally.

I'm guessing it's because they literally don't give a fuck, releasing a £25m asset is like us releasing a £1m asset, it's another show of wealth, we can dispose of expensive things.

Quite possibly. Ultimately the whole thing's a PR exercise. Maybe they just don't want unhappy players there because it spoils the look?

EDIT: If he does want to go and they make it difficult for him to leave that might put others off going there as well?

I’d be more inclined to sign Jota on loan with an option than the possible free that’s been mentioned, I’d rather pay a few quid for him if he turns out good enough than be lumbered with him if he turns out shit

People said the same about Vicario and VDV in the summer. How about placing some trust in the manager, who knows the player, and the recruiting department, who have done really well recently?

A player's price tag says nothing about his quality or his worth for the buying team, only his worth for the selling team.
