For me he is a 5th choice midfielder. His work rate can be very useful in some situations so if used correctly can be used as an asset.

I think calling him Championship level is harsh. He completely excelled there for Norwich and was one of the best players in the league when there.

He’ll only be content with 5th choice for a while and in time will move onto a lower half Prem club.

I see him as the Mason that Poch had when he arrived. He works hard and has bought into the manager. However he's not of the quality we need to push on going forward. Fine for this initial season under Ange though.
Mason had far more ability on the ball. He scored some good goals and was deceptively quick across the ground. Skipp is nowhere near mason or winks in terms of technical ability, and they still couldn't make it here in the long term (I think Winks would have under Ange but he didn't have the determination or strength to play without the ball for conte and Jose). Skipp has a fantastic attitude loves a challenge and is positionally disciplined though. He would be a good addition for Sheffield United or West Ham teams who set up to not dominate the ball.

Says the bloke who just asked the mods to take the thread down because somebody disagreed with him.
the sarcasm went right over your head. and the sarcastic answer wasn't due to the fact that he disagreed with me, that's fine and I welcome it. but come out with a point, not with some rhetoric bullshit.

So now Winks, the worst midfielder who got pelters for this last year or two is better than this guy?

The current thinking where players are either world class or shit can absolutely get in the bin. Skipp is neither and is not the only player of ours who is inconsistent at the moment but I'd prefer him to Pierre every time.
I know! Cos Winks is smashing it at Leicester now some people forget how often he was wrestling with players (and losing those bouts) because he could not keep up with them. He had no physicality at all like a CM Bryan Gil. Skipp is much better than him, he is quicker, stronger and his movement is better. He puts himself about and he could easily have made a couple of goals in the last two games with bursts down the right and crosses into the box. I am happy to have him in the squad as a utility player to help out, not everyone will be top top notch in any squad and Skipp still has much to offer us over the remainder of the season.

Saw this again on Twitter earlier today:

He's obviously fallen behind Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr for when everyone is fit - but as a homegrown rotation player he's got a role left to play this season. That being said I think we can all agree that without a strong second half then there's a good chance he's moved on in the summer.

Lovely complement of a game from 3 years ago that

Skipp suffers from the same issues as Dier and PEH - they think too much on and off the ball.

They will always struggle in a system that is free-flowing and instinctive.

If you put Skipp in a disciplined role and limited his options - I think he would do very well. Unfortunately that is not Ange's system.

Why does he need to move on? As has become abundantly clear, Ange likes players that are adaptable - across the back, through midfield and in forward positions. Skipp is just the kind of player we need; he can provide cover, he's homegrown; he's eager to learn, he's a leader within the group and he's a good all-round pro. Let's bin off the likes of Ndombele instead, and keep the players that can actually do a job, don't make a fuss and work for the team.

because that wasn't his game to play in a system that required that of him. Just as its not skipps game to play in a system that requires you to be good on the ball. Winks is a technically better footballer Skipp is a more determined footballer. Neither of them are the best at what they did in this squad so neither of them are what we needed.

In an ideal world - sure I'd keep him as backup. But at 23 years old he surely can't stick around forever at a club where he'll be 4th/5th choice...

That bit of skill between two players and nice calm pass at Man City which led to our equaliser shows he has more about him than he gets credit for.
7.50 in the video below if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I think the higher level you play the more your technical deficiencies are exposed and the more you rely on “work rate” or “defensive contribution”. Eg Henderson, Noble and Mason all attacking midfielders in their youth great technicians for their age group but the step up meant playing at a higher pace less time to be technical etc. Skipp was definitely behind technically to players like winks and Mason however physically a lot better, now that physicality is gone he lacks the technique to really make it at this level.

Another one of our own the fans are going to hound out in the hope we have 5 absolute world class midfielders who will be happy to play back up to each other.

fair play to him wanting to stay and fight for a spot at his boyhood club, stuff dreams are made of.
