He has been really impressive so far this pre-season. Got a nice passing foot and vision and almost scored on a couple of occasions. Let’s hope we get to see more from him in our cup games.

From the video, I particularly like that he plays the pass to where the receiver is going to be, not straight to feet. That type of passing is what builds momentum and drastically reduces the opponent's ability to stay organised. So much of our first XI passing has been the direct opposite of this for a very long time, and it generally leads to lack of movement or any sort of flowing football.

John would really benefit from a loan, in my opinion. He's very talented, but doesn't have the confidence yet IMO - he seemed to struggle a lot to get over a couple of poor touches early on against MK Dons, for example, which would improve a lot with a season of experience in the men's game.

That is not going to happen. And I couldn’t disagree more. It is not every youngster of promise we need to farm out on loan.

I don't think Paskotsi, Devine, or Scarlett should be going out on loan - just think John is someone who would benefit from it.

I think John and Devine’s progression will be really interesting. Do we back them and go with Skipp, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Dele as our midfield options or do we add someone potentially to their detriment

John looks like a real prospect. Silky and confident with the ball. Love to see him up against better opposition to enforce view.

I think he's tailor-made for the Europa Conference where he'll gain a load of valuable experience about being a pro, as opposed to kicking around on the training pitch most of the time. Could say the same about a few others who need a bit of higher level experience.

He reminds me a bit of a young (very raw) Modric in terms of his style of play. He looks deceptively strong despite being on the shorter side and looks very good at wriggling out of trouble and passing around players and going for the one two.
I think he would do well in ECL matches and be a good option for the league next season. (Although I wonder if he's better as a 6, an 8 or a 10)

I dont know if I'm just getting old, but these kids are all so much of a muchness. All tidy, all decent technically, good athletes etc but they are coached to within an inch of their lives and they just become a bit robotic.

Players like Modric are so great because they do something just a little bit different. In his case it was the ability to take the ball under pressure and find a pass. But it isn't without risk, you're going to get caught on the ball, you're going to lose it in dangerous areas, when it comes off though, it wins games.

These academy kids are all a bit safe for me and I guess the proof is in the pudding, how many make it? Even from the very biggest clubs?

Coaching is still a bit backward in England in terms of encouraging players to express themselves and take risks.

Kid looks OK I guess...

So you remember when Ally Dick was our best prospect? And John Moncur? We didn't have that many in the past. All went on to have undistinguished careers in the lower leagues.

Didn’t Nuno show faith in Morgan Gibbs-White a bit when he was really young (like 18)? Think we could see similar if Nuno really believes John is ready. Would love to see it.

Really? I really cannot see any Modric in him whatsoever. He reminds me more of someone like Fred at Utd.

Snappy in the tackle without being overly aggressive, able to ghost past opposition, passes around players and able to connect the play from back to front well.

I can't comment on the Fred comparison as I've not watched him in any considerable detail
